Freddie was voted best rock singer by largest swedish newspaper Aftonbladet... The swedes gave Freddie 32,5 % of the votes making him #1, Elvis Presley came in second with 14,5% and Curt Cobain was #3 with 14,2%. Good job Freddie, keep on rockin'!!! |
dragon-fly 09.10.2009 08:28 |
I always knew that Swedish are good people :) But Cobain #3??? |
LoosingMyBeat 09.10.2009 08:45 |
Yeah I know... Robert Plant would be runner up to Freddie if I got to decide, but Zeppelin is not that well-known in Sweden I guess... If they were Plant would be higher up, but he came in fifth with 7,5%... Some of the names is highly debateable...at least :D The entire list : 1. Freddie Mercury (Queen) 32,5 % 2. Elvis Presley 14,5 % 3. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) 14,3 % 4. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) 8,8 % 5. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) 7,5 % 6. John Fogerty (Creedence) 3,4 % 7. Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) 3,1 % 8. Ian Gillian (Deep Purple) 2,7 % 9. Janis Joplin 2,2 % 10. Blackie Lawless (W.A.S.P.) 1,7 % 11. Maja Ivarsson (The Sounds) 1,6 % 12. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) 1,5 % 13. Maynard James Keenan (Tool) 1,3 % 14. Mike Patton (Faith No More) 1,3 % 15. Roger Daltrey (The Who) 1,2 % 16. Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) 0,8 % 17. Courtney Love (Hole) 0,5 % 18. Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) 0,5 % 19. Geddy Lee (Rush) 0,4 % 20. Shirley Manson (Garbage) 0,3 % |

another shit list. Curt cobain #3. Curt was a horrible singer, all hype, no talent. No offense curt!.... |
Saif 09.10.2009 11:08 |
There are quite a few singers better than Robert Plant objectively. For instance: Jeff Buckley, Jackie Wilson(soul/R&B singer), Glenn Danzig, Mike Patton, Myles Kennedy, etc. Freddie is definitely the greatest singer there is. His timbre is nonpareil. The only other persons with such a delectable tone I can think of are Jim Morrison and Glenn Danzig. |

I love this list, since Robert Plant is really annoying with his screechy voice. |
mike hunt 09.10.2009 12:12 |
bruce dickison is a bit high, he sings out of key on the studio records, and is obviously worse live. The list should be elvis #1, freddie #2. cobain shouldn't even be mentioned. Courtney love?......geddy lee?....I love geddy as a bass player, but he's not a great singer....... Plant is good for the top 5. or 10. Another shit list. |
LoosingMyBeat 09.10.2009 12:29 |
I have to apologize on behalf of my country for putting Curt Cobain and Courtney Love on the best rock singers list, specially Courtney Love. It's just not right. |

He's also mentioned sometimes in top guitarists lists. He eclipses the popularity of far more talented grunge musicians/bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. Anyway, Bruce Dickinson is my favourite metal singer next to Glenn Danzig. I don't know about the US but in India, Iron Maiden are considered something above gods. I saw them in concert last year and I can see why. He's probably the most charismatic metal frontman alive along with Halford. Since you love Elvis, you should really check out Glenn Danzig. I have a feeling you won't like his far more legendary band, The Misfits(horror punk). So I'm going to recommend his third band, Danzig(blues-metal) to you. Glenn's voice is like "Elvis meets Jim Morrison" and that's not a hyperbole. When he was in the Misfits, he was the only punk singer who actually "sang". Unlike any other punk vocalist, he crooned while others shouted or screamed. One of his nicknames was "Evil Elvis". This is for you: Danzig's "Mother" link |

I have a question, a while back I heard a song in my friends car that really reminded me of Misfits, it had some Johnny Cash references in the melody and lyrics, and watching this posted video with Danzig it sounded alot like Glenn Danzig. Do you know what song I'm thinking of? Would really help cause I'm driving myself crazy 'cause I really can't remember the lyrics or anything... Thanks! |

Nice names. Bruce DIckinson? Cobain? The guy from Faith No More? Please!!! Shit lists like these are a dime a dozen. Its embarassing to be listed on a list that puts Elvis #2 slightly above Curt Cobain. If Freddie were alive, he'd distance from this list. |

Bruce was the first singer i loved when I was about 12 years old, so I know everything he's done. he's a good metal singer, but i kind of grew out of the whole maiden thing by my mid 20's. I still like the 80's stuff though. Mr. danzig is good. I went through my danzig stage, And had the first few CD's he did. I like him. |

It is still always nice to see Freddie getting appreciated, though it would be a bit more exciting if the company was stellar. My 67 year old mother was a HUGE Elvis fan, and, saw him in concert many times. She has always listened to Queen, though not always by choice.[/img] A year or so ago, I played for her the Wembley clip of Queen doing FreddieRickieLittleRichard, and, she exclaimed that she'd no idea Freddie had such a beautiful voice(somehow, to HER, Freddie singing, "You're So Square," live was far superior to him singing Bo Rhap on the album) . Hee...hee! Mom went on to say that Freddie did Elvis live better than Elvis did Elvis live. I found the whole exchange delightful. |

Plant at his peak had a range that rivalled or perhaps surpassed Freddie's, but his nodules and smoking subsequently debilitated him farther than Freddie. He never really recovered. :( That's why he sounds so bad on the FM Tribute Concert. On the other hand, Ian Gillan(Deep Purple) can sing almost as well as he could in his prime even now. |
