I have to say that I didn't have much high expectations for this one, given that I was one of those who thought that maybe they should have called it quits after Layne's death, and while Layne is irreplaceable and unique, I think it's fair to give Jerry Cantrell and the guys a shot to prove that they can still come out with something good.
I'm listening to it right now, and it sounds pretty damn good.
Alice in Chains is the one of the few grunge bands I like along with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Black Gives Way To Blue is awesome album. I downloaded it off Rapidshare and I really love it. I don't know anyone who has said anything negative about it. This could become a classic.
The new singer sings less than 40% of the lead vocals. Jerry Cantrell sings the majority of the vocals, especially the verse. The new vocalist takes mostly takes over at the choruses...Yeah.
alice in chains is one of my all time favorite bands. i have yet to hear the new singer. layne was my second favorite of all time next to freddie- so i think like the Queen+ stuff, i will like it, but its not the same. but for the band's sake, im glad theyre still touring, and hope to have the pleasure of seeing them live!

I love all their recordings and am eager to listen to the new album. I hadn't even heard of it, you're breaking the news to me. Now I know what to look out for the next time I go to the record store. Thaaaaaaaaanks. : -)))
This avatar rocks. Oh my. I burst out in laughter every time I see it. :op
I saw Alice in Chains live at Knebworth Park last month. They were amongst many other bands for a festival called Sonisphere. I was right at the front and caught their guitar pick. :D
I actually have a guitar pick box at home. I'm one of those people at the end of a concert I'll jump and reach out for the guitar picks, and I usually catch them. XD
Alice in Chains have announced a date in London, 16th November 2009 which they'll play at HMV Forum venue in Kentish Town, that's basically next to the famous Camden Town here. I HAD to buy tickets. They were AMAZING live last time. I gotta re-live it all again soon. :D
So yeah, old & new Alice in Chains is good for me. Obviously I much prefer the old, but I'm not complaining with the new.
