Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, the patriarch of the first family of Democratic politics, died Wednesday at his home in HYANNISport, Massachusetts, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. He was 77.
No plans for a Mahler tribute concert has been announced.
I always had tremendous respect for Senator Kennedy who stood by his principles throughout his life. With his decades of serving as a legislator he had probably more influence than his glorious brothers. You need passion and strong values to follow your political goals over such a long period of time. It is tragic that he died at a time when his voice was needed to accomplish health care for everybody.
My Mum's a lifelong Kennedy admirer and she heard me heckling the news over dinner today. She warned me off saying "don't you be mocking a dead man!" and my only response was "Which one, I have 3 to pick from now".
The SBS was running a short article on the speaking voice of the Kennedy's and I have to say, they were splendid speakers really. Maybe I'm just a sucker for that way of orating.
