Why are you confused? John didn't sing. He sometimes had a mic but it wasn't hooked up to the system.
Of course he was hooked up to the system. He is audible on many recordings, although you need to listen very carefully. His mic was merely set at a lower volume, but, as far as I know, never turned off.
The clearest example is the Milano 1984 (first night) recording. Radio GaGa, second chorus.
Also, I can hear him quite clear on the official Live Aid release, same song, same spot.
As far as i know he sang sometimes, just not as much, and, as mentioned before, more quietly. He has a really nice voice, its a pity he didn't sing more. I think there's clips of him on youtube singing, but I don't know what they're called or anything.
There was once this story that John sang the lyrics of Another One Bites The Dust to the rest of group. After that, Roger told him to never ever sing again.
The look on Roger's face must have been priceless.
you want to see John singing?????? so watch the "no one but you (only the good die youg" video... you'll see he opening his mounth... with u want to see this... check out this video! ;D
He's an ok singer. Hell he could even front his own pub band.
The thing is he lacks a pleasant tone when he sings. Sounds a bit like he's talking to a tune. Doesn't have a tremendous range either. In any case, he sang with his instrument instead and he did it very well too.
