I have "The Platinum Collection" and all of Queens other CD'S .Why on earth would i want to buy another hits collection! I am begining to tire of of shelling out more money for things we all already have. When i heard bout the new CD I was not excited one bit and im begining to think that "Brian" and "Roger" are taking the fans for a ride! Well enoughs enough for me thank you and goodnight you bunch of tarts!
The question is what is the point of this release? If they wanted another compilation then it should have been a double 40 track cd like the Stones released with their 40 Licks Best of. 'Absolute' doesnt have a tracklist that I am keen on (Hammer to Fall, Tie Your Mother Down, Love of My Life (live) all missing for example). Queen 2 is their best album anyway and that only has one 'hit' on it!
What would have been better is an update of Queen the Magic Years on DVD with maybe more footage of Houston and Earls Court gigs and some stuff from the works tour too, maybe sydney or japan which were filmed i beleive.
I like that you have "Brian" and "Roger" in quotes, like those are aliases of some sort, or as if the real Brian and Roger have been replaced by robots. Or aliens. Or cash-hungry zombie music moguls.
Although I also find it hard to reconcile myself with Queen's release policy in the last few years, I don't think we should keep bashing them on this newest one. Without any offence to anyone, but I think that fans should really have a broader view on these matters and stop being so emotional about it. The aim of this one CD package seems to be to bring some new audience to Queen. Us, fans, love all Queen's music (or at least the majority of it) and such a product is obviously not the gem we craved. However, there is plenty of people around who only heard Queen on the radio and don't have any albums. One day they might want to go to a store and get a compilation. And currently they will only find the very broad "Greatest Hits" series, sold either by item or in a 3 disc package. And many of them won't buy it, because all they wanted was one CD with the biggest hits. They will go back home and perhaps download a few songs or just forget about it and not buy anything. And for me it's a shame, because a hits CD might be a beginning of a fantastic trip, which is getting into Queen and collecting their stuff. This is how I started, some fourteen years ago, when I first heard "Greatest Hits II" cassette and couldn't stop listening to it for weeks. Then came "Greatest Hits I", then "Innuendo" and so it went. Today, I have all Queen's albums, a few singles and some memorabilia and although I don't listen to Queen that much now, it is still amazing just to have it. And as far as "Absolute Greatest" is concerned - I simply won't buy it. Cheers!
Hi yeah thats a good shout and i agree with you it is not really going to be a cd for the Queen enthusist. More a cd for the pop/rock fans who have a gap in their cd collection and this will fit the bill perfectly.Yeah i will buy it but it will sit in my collection just the same as Flash Gordon does.I would have welcomed a forty track Best of cd which i think is overdue. Not to be, as the great man said"This is what you wanted, this is what your going to get !"
