This is the first I've heard of Italy's 1974 LP getting a different mix of Ogre Battle. I've made a hobby of tracking different versions of Queen songs and this claim is new to me.
Someone'll need to actually buy and give it a listen. It's possible, but highly unlikely. Different countries have had edited albums released in their territories, but I can't think of one receiving different mixes. Different "Hits/Best Of" collections sometimes have unique mixes or edits, but that's usually because they want to cramp the CD/LP as full as possible.
Most edits, remixes or otherwise alternate versions come from singles, the many Hollywood Records 1991 & 1992 promos and, as I said, "Hits" collections. Argentina is notorious for issuing semi-official releases with what I call 'just plain weird' versions exclusive to their country.
I hope this helps anyone planning on grabbing this item up.
i own this record and just played it parallel to a german vinyl .
i used a crossfader to switch between the two vinyls and there is no difference in my ears.
the only collectable about this record is that it has a single sleeve, not a gatefold.
I figured as much, Sex Machine, but it's good to have confirmation. Thank you.
It's a slim probability that something like the seller was describing could go unnoticed for 35 years. An uncommon edit on a single or an obscure "Best Of" I could believe, but I'd still need confirmation.
Those Hollywood Records promo I mentioned earlier are still giving people like me something to chase. There were so many sent out to radio stations and such, so when Queen fans get a hold of one, they really need to give it a listen to hear if the edit or mix is different somehow. But because they tend to sell for lots of $ and collectors of these things aren't nessecarily collecting rare versions of songs, the actual content, in terms of if they contain an uncommon remix, edit or version, goes unnoticed.
I was contacted by a friend once, who was helping a friend of his sell some of his record collection. Turns out the friend of the friend had the HR promo 4 disc Rocks boxed set. I agreed to find the best relative price in exchange for copies of anything rare on it (rare edit or mix or whatever). It turns out it was worth 3 times as much as he thought and I got to catalogue exactly what versions of the listed tracks were on it (which would eventually up its value). It had a few different mixes on it that only an experienced ear could have spotted.
For instance:
Flash's Theme was the album version, but unlike the album faded out after the "For God's sake! Strap yourselves down!" line.
The Live Killers version of Let Me Entertain You on the Rocks set faded in halfway through Freddie's intro and faded out at the end, different from both the LK album version and the LK b-side version.
Anyway, yes, some of us track these versions carefully (probably because we need to get a life, haha) and are forever hunting. Everyone needs a hobby.
