not REALLY a genius ......... its not like he could invent the cure to cancer which coincidentally would help him worlds more than kicking a stupid ball!!! LOL
Sir Robert William "Bobby" Robson CBE (18 February 1933 – 31 July 2009) was an English footballer and, after retirement, manager of several European clubs and the England national football team.
His professional playing career as an inside-forward spanned nearly 20 years, during which he played for three clubs: Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, and, briefly, Vancouver. He also made 20 appearances for England, scoring four goals.
After his playing career he found success as both a club and international manager, winning league championships in both the Netherlands and Portugal, earning trophies in England and Spain, and taking England to the semi-final of the 1990 World Cup. His last management role was as a mentor to the manager of the Irish national football team.
Total goals scored: 141
Bobby Robson was awarded a number of honours for his contributions to football. In 1990, at the end of his eight-year reign as England manager, he was awarded a CBE and in 2002, he was knighted; both awards were for services to football!!
Dare I say... Spare?
Did he ever take part in a championship winning team? No. I don't mean "league championships". 141 goals in 20 years? Not exactly Beckham, eh?
not a genius by any stretch of the imagination [he couldnt remember half the names of his players] but a scholar and a gentleman of his profession, definately.
taking a little football club like Ipswich Town to the top of the English football league and winning the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup with them is something that will never be repeated in this day of the £80m diving winkers of Madrid.
only that cheating little Argie,Maradonna stopped him taking England to glory in 1986 and Chris Waddle taking up rugby union in a penalty shoot-out in 1990 when England were the best playing team in the tournament denied Robson of the success he deserved with the national team.
he then went on to winning leagues in Holland with PSV Eindhoven and then more famously with Barcelona, winning 3 major trophies in a year with a certain young portugese bloke called Mourinho as his right hand man.
Robson will go down as one of best managers for over 40 years throughout Europe winning trophies everywhere he went.
