I'm actually kind of excited about this release. Yes, the band has released numerous greatest hits -- too many perhaps -- but maybe this will signify the last of them. And perhaps this will be released in all territories as the definitive, most agreeable hit collection of Queen. This is as opposed to having the Hollywood Records Greatest Hits and Classic Queen vs the UK Greatest Hits Vol. 1-3. I hope the packaging isn't horrible. I have my doubts of it being any better than Cosmos Rocks. |

They should do a 2-disc combo with this one and 'Live in Ukraine'... They should call it... "Why?" |

Must admit my heart sank when i saw this news. Didn't Brian May say a few years ago that he wished the Greatest Hits albums could be deleted so that people would be encourgaed to discover the albums and what Queen were about with those releases. Instead of celebrating the anniversaries of each album with 2 disc sets which I'm sure would be easy to do we get a single disc Greatest Hits release - completely pointless. But we will try to give it this air of mystery by making a competition to see if you can guess the track listing, hmmm let me guess, nothing new or exciting - do I get a prize for that? Even Duran Duran know how to treat their fans - just look at the upcoming 2 disc release of Rio and the bonus stuff available on there. Still I guess another Greatest Hits collection clears the way for Queen Rocks Volume Two next year or maybe they should do a Queen Ballads collection instead. And finally, will We Will Rock You be the Queen + Five version as that was a number one single? Urgh |

Okay, the idea of a greatest Greatest Hits album just sucks. But at least do it right: GH1: 01. Killer Queen 02. Best Friend 03. Bo Rhap 04. Somebody To Love 05. Rock You 06. Champions 07. Don't Stop Me Now 08. Bites The Dust 09. Crazy Little Thing GH2: 10. Pressure 11. Ga Ga 12. Break Free 13. One Vision 14. Kind of Magic 15. I Want It All 16. Innuendo 17. Show Must Go On GH3: 18. Days Of Our Lives 19. Heaven For Everyone 20. No-One But You Too bad this won't happen though. They're not doing things chronologically, and my list has way too few Brian-only credited songs (Roger and John each have more, lol). I don't think my list is that far-fetched though. |

Queen's top 20 hits (in terms of UK chart position) would a) not include Don't Stop Me Now or No One But You (or anything else that got lower than 7 in the chart) b) be 82 and a half minutes long. Therefore there'll have to be either a little licence taken, or a little editing. And I can't see it being anything other than both. Personally I'd have TATDOOL straight out - nobody bought that single to listen to that... Stick in Seven Seas instead - first hit, sentimental reasons etc. Out go A Winter's Tale & Breakthru - the general public won't miss them. Bring in No One But You & Don't Stop Me Now. 80 minutes 40. Need to lose at least 90 seconds (I've used all single versions so far). One Vision gets trimmed a lot, use the Classic Queen edit - 15 seconds saved. A Kind Of Magic - early fade out - 5 seconds saved I Want It All - ditto - 5 more I Want To Break Free - use the album version - 62 seconds saved Snip a couple more seconds by leaving less gap between tracks. And there you have it - a cash cow! |

I normally don't comment on this thing but I feel moved to because I'm so disgusted at this latest exercise. The hits tumble out of the 3 volumes that already exist, what is wrong with them? The "Platinum Collection" was a great exercise in bringing the hits to the current generation. Queen have dined out on those hits albums but it still isn't enough for them The real gems can be found by re-discovering the studio albums, that is where the true joy lies in listening to Queen There comes a point where they have to stop dredging up past glories and re-packaging them again and again. All I can think of is them lining their pockets at our expense while offering NOTHING new in return. Surely its a tracklisting we can all burn from our own collections I love Queen...............LOVE them. But this sticks in the throat. |

It's good to see that the general feeling is not all bad about this release as I thought it would be. You have got to realise that apart from the USA and Japan (and a few other countries around the world), the last Greatest Hits compilation was way back in 2002 when The Platinum Collection was re released here in the UK. That was 7 years ago! Is anybody really surprised then that another compilation album is due? Most big bands are releasing them more frequently than that, and top artists are releasing a compilation after a couple more hits which have been released since the last compilation album! So it must of been expected? This will be the first one to include tracks from all three GH albums for the first time here in the UK. And although Queen are not essentially a 'singles' band.....they have always been known as an album and live band foremost......the singles have done exceedingly well over the years, not just with the fans but also with radio and TV, so this compilation is aimed at the general public who will buy this album as a reminder of all those great hits that have been around for most people's lifetime. |

This is just fantastic news. A new Greatest Hits collection. I can't wait! I've already marked it on my calendar, because from this moment on, I will live and breathe to see the release of this new fantastic breathtaking greatest hits album by the most uncompromising band ever. If only Queen would expand into other walks of life, so us devoted fans could buy all of our daily necessities as Queen products. Queen deodorants, breakfast cereal with authentic Brian May-hair in it, toothpaste, toilet paper. Now I'm being forced to buy brands that in no-way display my unconditional love for Queen. I just hope I live to see the day that I can live Queen to the fullest. Long live Queen. |
steven 35638 25.07.2009 13:30 |
In addition to this new compilation I would love to see the band celebrate their 40th Anniversary by releasing all of their studio albums again. This time, I would love it if the packaging would be replicas of the LPs and include special bonus tracks (such as interviews with Bri, Rog, and Deaky [yeah right] concerning the production of the album). This might also replace a huge anthology box set. Perhaps each album could come with a 2nd disc full of rarities of that particular album. Oh, and let's not forget about enhancing the sound quality(especially their debut album and Jazz). Of course, this is all but a dream! |

Long live Queen. :) maybe you can try papering your walls with the covers of all the many re-releases of Greatest Hits collections. What are they thinking? The original albums are difficult to get - they have to be ordered from Queen or online somewhere, at least where i live, as none of the music shops sell anything except Greatest Hits 1, 2 and 3, and now Cosmos. If they re-released them, they'd be more accessible to people. People might actually buy them, as only fans will bother ordering them. If people see them, they would be more likely to remember liking them as a kid and get the album. |

Greatest Hits 1 is one of the most sold album EVER. Greatest Hits II also has sold huuuuge quantities. And the Platinum Collection has been a major seller too. No way that this collection will sell thousands of copies. The general public already has BoRhap, WWRY and AOBTD - probably multiple times too! This collection will most likely go down the same road as Queen Rocks did - enter high in the charts because all the fans will buy it for their collection and a couple of weeks later it's gone. And I though Queen Rocks was a pretty nice idea - until the tracklist was changed to include more 'hits'. Would've been great if some of the tracks on the original proposal were kept - like the remix of TYMD! Now more serious - I can understand that QP wants to release commercial products which appeal to Joe Public. But I've got a feeling that this will mean that the Hammersmith Odeon project which has been announced a couple of weeks back will be pushed back to 2010. Don't wanna flood the market! |

I wonder if Brian will get TYMD on this one. I think I read somewhere how he wished he could of got it on one of the other GH albums, but as it only charted at no.31 at the time of release it made it ineligable for inclusion. However, people forget it was alaso a double "A" side with NOBY in '98, and that reached no. 13... so you could use that as the reason for including it this time around. It's famous enough in it's own right to be included now I reckon. |

LOL There is no positive way of looking at this release - no matter what spin you put on it. And Queen now are a singles band due to the way in which the band has been promoted.
