Band : Thin Lizzy & Queen Title : Live in Seattle Venue : Seattle Center Coliseum, Seattle, Washington, USA Date : 13. March 1977 Lineage : master reel @ full track mono (Tandberg Model 11 R2R deck, Sony ECM-22P microphone) > Wavelab (wav24/96 > wav16/44) > FLAC > WAV > Cool Edit Pro (equalisation) > WAV > FLAC Taper : JEMS Quality : Excellent - Musicians : Thin Lizzy Philip Lynott - bass guitar, vocals Brian Downey - drums Scott Gorham - guitar Gary Moore - guitar Queen Freddie Mercury - lead vocals, piano, tambourine Brian May - electric guitar, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals, tambourine John Deacon - bass guitar, triangle Notes : Thin Lizzy An excellent sounding but incomplete JEMS master recording. This show captures Thin Lizzy touring in support of the Johnny The Fox album as an opener for Queen. Unfortunately the recording is incomplete because only one reel was put aside to tape the opener this night and once it ran out that was it. This is one bad ass recording and balls out performance that captures the energy and passion of a live Thin Lizzy show during what later was coined their classic era. Queen Yet another in a long line of JEMS master recordings. This recording captures Queen touring in support of the A Day At The Races album in superb sound quality. Unless our research is incorrect this is the first time(June 2009) this recording has ever been circulated complete (previous known versions are missing Tie Your Mother Down, Stone Cold Crazy and Keep Yourself Alive), in the correct running order and from a non LP bootleg source. Remaster A copy of this recording was released on LP bootlegs, this is the first time when the original complete recording comes out. Unfortunately this master copy sounds much worse then the LP bootleg, which is pretty unusual. The original master was really heavy in the bottom end, while the LPs sound really clean. That's why I played with the equalisation a bit in Cool Edit Pro, the result sounds much better to my ears. If you're one of the people who don't like making any changes to the masters, especially equalisation, this remaster is definitely NOT for you. However if you prefer clean sound, enjoy this one. I have also re-edited the tracks, because Jailbreak and Brighton Rock were originally split into 3 parts, and the rock'n'roll medley was in one file, now it's split more logical. Tracklist : Disc 1 1. Jailbreak 2. Massacre 3. Esmerald 4. Still In Love With You 5. Warriors 6. Don't Believe A Word 7. Cowboy Song 8. The Boys Are Back In Town [cut] 9. Tie Your Mother Down 10. Ogre Battle 11. White Queen (As It Began) 12. Somebody To Love 13. Killer Queen 14. The Millionaire Waltz 15. You're My Best Friend 16. Bring Back That Leroy Brown Disc 2 1. Brighton Rock 2. '39 3. You're Take My Breath Away 4. White Man 5. The Prophets Song (reprise) 6. Bohemian Rhapsody 7. Stone Cold Crazy 8. Keep Yourself Alive 9. Liar 10. In The Lap Of The Gods ...revisited 11. Now I'm Here 12. Big Spender 13. Jailhouse Rock 14. Saturday Night's Allright For Fighting 15. Stupid Cupid 16. Be Bop A Lula 17. hahahahah !! so, is this the show for wich you asked me a new artowk , Peter? I'm laughing because I was asking you about it, only 2 minutes ago in the Boston'76 thread. I guess the response is here, isn't it ? Many thanks for the share !!! |
pittrek 05.07.2009 10:51 |
Yes, it's this one. I hope you guys like what I've done with it |

Cheers Pitters! I wish you lived near me and I could let you loose with my Collection so you could sort it out and do any Eq messing that needs doing! |
Rik&Roll 05.07.2009 11:56 |
Wasn't Brian Robertson on lead guitars that tour, instead of Gary Moore? Great effort to upload the entire Queen Lizzy-gig! |
FaBu 05.07.2009 11:59 |
Dear Vali! I asked for artwork under the Seattle thread, but I might just ask here too. Would it be possible for you to make a cover with only Queen too? [/img] I know it's asking muck, but it would be great to have covers for both versions. Many thanks in advance! BTW: Your 81 covers and the one for Boston are beautiful, as ever!. Dear Pittrek! Thank you very much for this share! I realice now what an enormous job it must have been, now that I'm having them all together, putting Valis covers on them. |

First of all, thanks once again to the taper and for the remaster done at first. Second, thanks to Pittrek for his wizardry a,d for having spent some of his precious time for Equalizing this correctly !! Excellent as always ! Third, thanks Vali for the artwork to come. It's not here yet but I'm sure I can say it now : Good job man !! And fourth, no I was wrong at first thinking it was Brian Robertson. It SHOULD have been him on guitar, but he injured himself at the hand, and Gary Moore replaced him for the Queen tour. Regards, Olivier, Belgium. |

pittrek wrote:Rick wrote: Thanks Peter! Now we only need a speed corrected Boston 1976 recording ;-)Sure, why not ? But I can't believe that we are the only 2 persons who hear the speed difference, even the original seeder claims the speed is correct It does run about a quarter-tone too fast. But to the average person's credit, they're simply too excited about the recording itself to bother noticing/caring that it runs a bit fast. To speed-correct a recording in 24/96 quality (ensuring no SBEs) is a bit trickier than a standard 16/44 one. Who's up for the challenge? |
Rick 06.07.2009 13:12 |
Don't look at me. I'm rubbish :) |
Queenrockyou 06.07.2009 14:55 |
No you're not a fool dear Pittrek, the recording speed needs a little correction. Bob is alright, the fact that this series of new tapes arrived on Queenzone left us on our asses !! But it's not long before real music lovers like you and others discovered the speed could be corrected, or the Seattle recording needed a different EQ, as Martin was first to say. Well, now there's some work that needs to be done... who's on it ? Regards, Olivier, Belgium. |
goa 06.07.2009 15:14 |
I'm not a techie, but I do participate in othere sites. In a Pink Floyd one, the techies always prefer to work on the highest possible "mode". They say that allow them have more "room". Also they mention "32 bit float". ??? and ??? For me that's chinese  (with all respect to chinese people) well, I'm sure here are several techies that will create both 24/96 and 16/44.1 speed corrected of Boston 1976. btw, thanks again for this work pittrek. |

Is this recording mono? It sounds like it to me and looking in Audacity I can't see any differences between left and right in the tracks I've looked at. |
The Real Wizard 08.08.2013 12:29 |
Indeed, it's mono. Most audience tapes from this period are mono, since most people didn't have stereo recording gear/mics. And that's helpful for us since that'll make the files half the size :-) |
OwenSmith 08.08.2013 15:08 |
The file size really isn't an issue these days. I find listening to mono a bit weird, there are absolutely no spatial cues when listening. I find it strange that mono gear was common in 1977. My dad had a lot of audio gear then and it was all stereo. |
Nitroboy 08.08.2013 16:09 |
Well you should keep in mind that most people probably used their old mono recorders they happened to have lying around :) |
OwenSmith 08.08.2013 18:56 |
The odd thing is all the other Queen bootlegs from that era and earlier are in stereo (at least the ones I have anyway), either on reel to reel or cassette. This is the only one I have that is mono. |
The Real Wizard 08.08.2013 19:09 |
Interesting discussion here. Although most of these audience tapes seem to be transferred in stereo, the sound itself is still usually mono. The tape transfer may create differences in information in each channel, but there is no audible difference. Great tapes like Montreal 78 are clearly in stereo, but most of the audience tapes are in mono. Why Seattle 77 turned out to be digitally different is anyone's guess. Or maybe Weedwacker or JEMS can shed some light on this one? Maybe they transferred it in mono from a stereo tape, and it still doesn't sound any different ? |

Having now listened to this it is excellent and an era I don't have much from. Thin Lizzy are superb, such a shame their set is incomplete. Queen are great too, it's interesting hearing early 39 live with Roger struggling to do the high flying vocal line, this section of the song being dropped from later live tours presumably because it was so hard to do. Also Somebody To Love live without the audience participation singing or lengthy piano intro is a bit odd, I prefer the way the song developed in the later live tours, though a shame the audience singing was dropped towards the end of its time on the setlist. One of the things I like most about bootlegs on Queenzone is listening to how the band's live act developed and changed through the years. It's completely fascinating. If I had a time machine there are certain tours I'd be right there for (Queen II, Crazy Tour) and others I'd skip in an instant (News of the World since Freddie's voice is so poor). |
The Real Wizard 17.08.2013 12:26 |
OwenSmith wrote: this section of the song being dropped from later live tours presumably because it was so hard to do.'39 was always performed in its complete form (save for two spontaneous 1980/84 airings). The only major change was in 1978, when they added a harmonizer to Freddie's voice for the last two bars of the interlude so that Roger could drop out. Glad you find this journey so interesting. If you really want to make your head spin, follow Zeppelin's Dazed And Confused from 69-75. The evolution (and rate of it, at certain points) really is mind-boggling. |
OwenSmith 17.08.2013 12:44 |
I'm not a Zeppelin fan. don't even have any of their albums. But thanks for the recommendation. |
