OK folks. Festival organiser Michael Eavis has confirmed that the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury, due to be held in June 2010 will be a 'Greatest Hits' showcase which will mark each of the years the festival has been held.
Regardless of your views of the whole QPR package (personally I think whilst it is not Queen per say that it was absolutely the right thing to do and I have really enjoyed the live performances if not the album so much) I think it would absolutely fabulous to see the band on the Pyramid Stage during the festival for one of the evening slots.
In watching the Live in the Ukraine DVD you could easily fill an evening slot with really classic, crowd singalong music which is what I think Eavis' plan is for the event in 2010. Of course the guitar and drum solos and some of the non-hits sprinkled with maybe a couple of Queen tracks not covered to date so far.
I could just see a really high crowd loving the evening singalong to one of the world's best back catalogue of classic rock!
What do you think? Given the focus for 2010 I think this surely has to be viewed as a definate.
If Paul wants to come back for Glastonbury (if the band even plays it), great. He's a welcome addition to the band, but I think it's been proven throughout his career that Paul Rodgers does what Paul Rodgers wants to do--not necessarily what makes the most sense. If he wants to stick with Bad Company for a while longer, or has moved on to another project that suits his fancy (I've always wanted to see PR on stage with John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Jason Bonham...), then I'd imagine Brian and Roger would be happy to give it a go solo. Just please, no American Idols/WWRY cast members onstage with them as the "frontman".
Agree totally that no Pop Idol etc people should come into this - it should be Paul Rodgers. However I think given the gravity of Glastonbury, this would be a good move. Of course a few Free numbers would be thrown in for good measure too! In my previous post, I mentioned guitar/drum solos - in case this is not clear from my post (OK it isn't!) these should be left out!
Seriously think this would go down well and bring Q+PR to a bigger audience whilst doing their own individual back catalogues no harm. Particularly now with the BBC coverage being so, well, extensive!
