I think that Hotter Than Hell by Kiss is a pretty bad sounding album, its from 1974 but the drums sound like 1986! Knocked Out Loaded by Bob Dylan- Even though it is actually a very good album, the drum machine is mixed so loud you cant hear the other parts!!! Very annoying! Shoot me if you must, but I think that Queen I has pretty boring production. Love the songs, but they dont entrance me, if you know what I mean. Anything from 1983 |

Hot Space :P Ummmm, Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing.... Dr. Luke? That album was pathetic. So annoying! |

Memory Almost Full was the first thing Macca's done that I've liked in God knows how long ... but CHRIST someone needs to take his compression away, at least for a few weeks while he sorts out his addiction. |

Im a Macca FREAK as much as I am with Queen. His Chaos/Creation album I though had some of the best production ive heard in a long time. Now 1986's Press To Play. That's a different story... |

Wasn't fond of stuff like "Gratitude" or "See Your Sunshine", that stuff was fluff. I really really really liked "House of Wax" though. I just don't know the album had to be so ... compressy!!! |

Kiss appear in a lot of "worst" lists, as well as "most over-rated", "cheesiest songs", "dumbest lyrics" etc. They have a well-deserved reputation for being crappy at almost everything. |

Brian_Mays_Wig wrote:SomePerson wrote: St. Anger from Metallica was a true piece of shit.I love Metallica.............but totally agree! Funny thing is that Metallica did that crappy production on purpose. They wanted a completely raw, live peformance in the studio (if you want to call the facility they used a studio) without any polishing. To an extent, I actually liked the sound. |

This is really more a matter of taste, but the job Phil Spector did on Let it Be has always bugged me. |

I never was a fan of Jimmy Page's horendous work behind the board. Clearly a case where the remasters sound so much better than the originals. |
Micrówave 15.07.2009 12:59 |
For Zebonka: RE: Let It Be Phil Spector was enlisted in early 1970 to do some post-production mixing and overdubs, but he did NOT work with the band as a unit. And, although his use of strings has generated much criticism, by and large he left the original performances to stand as is. Only "The Long And Winding Road" and (to a lesser degree) "Across The Universe" and "I Me Mine" get the Wall Of Sound treatment. In November 2003, The Beatles released Let It Be... Naked, which mixed out Spector's contributions and deleted snippets of conversation scattered throughout the album. |
john bodega 15.07.2009 14:25 |
Ha it's funny you should go to the effort of clarifying because "Long and Winding Road" was the song that annoyed me the most! Ha-ha. I liked the concept that they had for the Get Back/Let it Be thing, but I don't think it worked in execution. It was really something that should've been done by a band looking to survive a 2nd decade - not one that was crumbling to bits. That's what's always annoyed me the most about Let it Be (and to a lesser extent, the White Album). They still had top material to offer, but the recordings fell so short of their standards. |
Lookin' Divine In Good Ol' '89 24.07.2009 21:18 |
If you hate the Spector version of Let It Be, get Let It Be... Naked. Its the original Glyn Johns version. Extremely better in every way shape and form. It even became my fave Beatles album for awhile! |

Wow are you serious. I thought MAF was a really terrible production. The overal compression is horrible! And there is no excuse for the amount of noise on that album. Listen to End of the End, and note the amount of noise that comes in 2 seconds before the vocals. There's no excuse for that. It all sounds horrible squashed, there's absolutely no life in the music at all. Chaos & Creation was also bad, but this is even worse! When the album got out I got the album in mp3 from a friend, and I thought he just sent me very bad quality mp3's. 128 kbits or something. But no, it was just the sound of the album.. McCartney is really losing i, if he thinks this is how music should sound |

And speaking of Phil Spector: I know George Harrison co-produced "All Things Must Pass" with Phil Spector, but - and this is just my taste - I really hate the production of the oh-so-obvious-Phil-Spector-influenced Wall of Sound tracks on that album. |
Lookin' Divine In Good Ol' '89 25.07.2009 22:35 |
Right there with you. But if you really want to hear some bad production listen to Moon Is Up by the Stones. Worst song on Voodoo Lounge. Also, Are You Experienced? by Hendrix, is some of the worst ive heard as well. |

Zebonka12 wrote: This is really more a matter of taste, but the job Phil Spector did on Let it Be has always bugged me. I agree. Glyn John's 3rd compilation (or first according to some labels) of Get Back is much better. Let It Be Naked is not the Glyn John version as stated by someone, is was re-mixed by three completely different people in the 2000's. I've always felt that the boy's own Jazz was a let down on the production front. Was it the studio or was it Roy Thomas Baker that made it sound muddy and a bit tinny? Or do I need to get it on vinyl? |
Lookin' Divine In Good Ol' '89 04.08.2009 10:36 |
Vinyl expands the realm of heard song in many directions. Get the vinyl. |
