Quite happy atm. My band's bassist helped fix up my bass guitar's bridge height to make the strings more even in height (never had this fixed in the 8 years I've had this bass, really). NOW my bass finally has more of a tone appropriate for fuzzy slap tones, or whatever the feck ya want to refer to it as :-D All needs doing now is replacing the tone knobs or so, as it crackles badly when I adjust them. And perhaps the tuner heads...a bit loose on the G string when tuning it :-P |

Hi, dear folks. How are you? CD DAY! Any tips? Have you been listening to some fairly recent release which you'd recommend? Or, regardless of the novelty aspect, have you been listening to some interesting stuff that you feel like suggesting? A band, a particular album, I don't know - something you think that, regardless of when it was released, it's good enough and not that obvious that anyone would know it. :op Have a great sunday, guys! Yara |
Mr Mercury 28.06.2009 11:17 |
Yara, I havent been listening to much new stuff (except for Under the Covers 1 + 2 by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs - she of the Bangles fame - thanks to Dan C). An album I have revisited these days in Tapestry by Carole King. Excellent old album that I was introduced to by my late Uncle way back in the 70's. It has some great songs on it imo, like Its Too Late, You've Got A Friend, (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman. The Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs stuff is really good as well, though it is just covers of other peoples songs. Like I said before I knew who Susanna Hoffs was (being a Bangles fan) but I had no idea who Mr Sweet was. I did check some of his stuff out on youtube and so far I have quite liked what I heard. If I hear anymore albums I think you might be interested in I shall let you know, ok. Love and kisses Dave |

Today I ended up at Gay Pride. It was truly excellent, with many men in pretty sparkly dresses. There was a man who was the absolute spitting image of Freddie, with a Live Aid style costume on. I stared at him grinning with a crazed look in my eye for a about 10 minutes. He had the teeth, bone structure, moustache, everything. Anyway, eventually my friend pushed me over to him and made me speak to him. I got photos. Shall upload them at some point. |

My tummy hurt nearly all day yesterday!!! Ugh, the worst pain I ever felt... [/img] So, some 3 gangsters tried breaking into a store that we live next to! The alley behind my house leads to the back door of the store, so my cousin and I heard sounds... I look out the window and some stupid gangster with a shaved head was trying to break into the store!!! There were 2 fat gangster girls with him. My mom started yelling at the guy and the guy didn't know where it was coming from! XD it was hilarious because he tried to act tough but ran off!!! Losers. I was scared cuz I thought they would try breaking into our house... Some guy tried breaking into my house last year while I was asleep...now I'm always scared at night... I ramble on too much. |

My poor little cat (one of my poor little cats) had to have 4 teeth pulled today. She came home still under anasthetic and is now after coming around. She's acting so drunk though, she can't walk straight, very funny, is slightly pathetic! And she can't seem to figure out why she can't wash herself. Poor little thing though, she's not a happy little beastie. One of the hazards of rescuing animals - they tend to come down with bizzarre illnesses. Seriously, she's only young - about 3. What 3 year old cat has to get teeth out? What any age cat has to get teeth out? The vet must love to see my family coming, the cats always have strange illnesses requiring anasthetics and overnight stays. |

^my old cat Fleabag used to knock her own teeth out by jumping up onto the tv and not guesstimating the right distance between floor and top of tv set and whacking her mouth on it,by the time she died aged 17 she only had 1 fang left in her mouth.she also had a habit of getting what we called "dead head" where she would fall asleep on the top of the tv and her head would gradually droop over the side until it got too heavy and she would fall off.how she lived to be 17 i dont know.. |

Lady Nxy, that must be so disappointing. Maybe if you have a break for a while you might be able to go back to it? There are so many options for adult education now, hopefully it'll work out. Joxer, hope the hospital isn't too bad. Maybe you can share a ward with the guy you knocked off the ladder?! I know someone who used to get people to bring him in Chinese takeaways and fish and chips when he was in hospital. Practice making patient and 'i'm in mortal agony, but don't mind me' faces in the mirror and you might be able to get some extra TLC from your neighbours. I'm after having such a nice day, went to the beach this afternoon, it was so warm. I was helping someone with their children, but it was still nice to hang out there. And to be warm after teh weather the last while. |

Horrible. I don't think I'll ever forget the sickening feeling of failing my driving test, and that wasn't affecting my job or anything, it's gutting for something like that not to work out. Sometimes you can hit lucky with looking for jobs though, there can be a vacancy at the right place at the right time. So hopefully. And hopefully by next year there'll be more jobs available. Is it really in the 30s in parts of England? Someone told me it was 34 degrees in Cambridge, how come its stormy and horrible here? I was driving home today after visiting some family, and it was raining so hard I had to pull in to a petrol station. In between showers and thunder its lovely. When i was stopped in roadworks for a LONG time and subsecuently stuck in rush hour traffic for an equally long time, it was lovely and warm. Im sure everyone around me thought i was really wierd with my lovely Mr Bad Guy, Back to the Light, Bowie and Fun in Space playlist blaring out the window! :) |

Tennis for real today. It's a local tournament. First match! I'm so going to own that girl. She will go back home feeling guilty of having been born. That is, she'll tear me up to pieces and be haunted by remorse for the rest of her life. : -))) These times I feel the need of having the racquet equivalent of the Red Special. I can't think like this. I have to think only about owning the girl, squeezing her under my feet and defeating her without losing any set. To make her lose her dignity even. I won't post it in the "serious discussion" section only because it's not related to Queen. Hehe. |

Girl owned. Hehe. Not as I wanted it to be, but still it all went on just fine and smooth. The sad part is that the girl was under so much stress and so insecure. Her serve was much better than mine when she could get herself together, but her nerves just didn't let her go forward and score the points she needed. It seemed to be as if she was crying sometimes. Winning is nice but not in this way. I talked to her afterwards and she's a sweet and talented girl but way too insecure. There's still some time for me to enroll in the doubles and I asked her to be my partner and she seemed to be happy about it and accepted it. I think I made a friend. : -))) It's such an unimportant local tournament. We were supposed to be playing there with joy. ---- Yes, sorry, I don't wanna sound offensive, but Connecticut is indeed depressing in so many ways. Hehe. Sorry. It's...I'm being honest. ---- Congratulations for the masters there. For sure it offsets the bad climate and all. It's so hard for me even to read the few books on humanities I'm assigned, and I now it's important, but I just don't have the knack for it. I admire those who do have it! ---- Sgt. Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow. |

Wow, I'm sick of doubt Live in the light of certain South Cruel bindings. The servants have the power Dog-men and their mean women Pulling poor blankets over Our sailors I'm sick of dour faces Staring at me from the TV Tower, I want roses in My garden bower; dig? Royal babies, rubies Must now replace aborted Strangers in the mud These mutants, blood-meal For the plant that's plowed. They are waiting to take us into The severed garden Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful Comes death on a strange hour Unannounced, unplanned for Like a scaring over-friendly guest you've Brought to bed Death makes angels of us all And gives us wings Where we had shoulders Smooth as ravens claws No more money, no more fancy dress This other kingdom seems by far the best Until its other jaw reveals incest And loose obedience to a vegetable law. I will not go. Prefer a feast of friends. To the giant family. |

(i tend to hold my breath when i tense up, and because there was a needle in my mouth, that freaked me out a bit, but im used to it). but just a few seconds, my face went numb, my heart was beating out of my chest and i hear what sounded like lasers and robots! O.o kinda freaky!!! in other news, more encouragment for me to move out, im sick of being discouraged from my family because of being the oddball! i know what i want to do- why cant people just support it? |

2 offers of social activities today but i dont fancy either of them: a] love riot @ the sandbar, lots of bands and dj's a chance to catch up with old mates but do i really want to pay £6 for the bus AND £8 to get into my local? answer, probably not... b] local BBQ and general decadence BUT the bloke who's hosting it is a total knob and its likely to get raided by the 'rozzers' for the funny cigerettes and talcum powder in use,so i dont want to be tarred with the same brush.this pirate works alone, that way he goes under the radar and not flash up like a beacon to all and sundry which is what will happen at the BBQ [he's well known to the rozzers and has done time]. i think i may just chill out in the garden with a cider and pasty instead.. |

I got to meet most of my new kiddies in work the last few days, and am so excited about the new year. But they all look so small! Can't wait for this week to be over to get properly into the year, and see everyone's personality emerging. But after two weeks off, it was a bit of a shock to the system to end up covered in spaghetti, yoghurt and snot (not my own) by lunchtime! :) |

But no, lesbians don't stand a chance with me because I'm usually twice their size and if they try something funny with me I kick them out of the room and hunt them down waving the shower bar over my head. If I were any animal other than myself I'd be an hybrid of a giraffe and a mare, and I can put on an evil streak to scare the bravest ones off. I know that as a sensitive humanitarian guy you'll say: "We're on a Queen website and you're prejudiced against...", and yes, it's true, I'm prejudiced against a lot of things. I do acknowledge, though, that lesbians have all the rights under the Constitution, and so on, but none inside my pants: that's my policy. I'd say the same about Germans, and "Germans" are hardly a "minority". How tolerant would you turn out to be if I left you alone in a dark room with a French fan of Timberlake eager for some "afternoon delight"? I mean, in the rare cases a respectable, sizeable lesbian comes my way I tend to be more diplomatic, even if I think my odds are a bit better. I don't like to risk. But in all other cases I resort to force. And that's what ruins my reputation on Queenzone: my honesty. : -) Thomas Quinnley speaking, I subscribe to the theory of an ancient Greek guy called Aelius Aristides: the virtue of the wise is knowing the value of things; the virtue of the just is giving each one his due; and the virtue of the brave is speaking the truth. I speak the truth and leave the wisdom for the books and the justice for the cops. op NOW, Andy Murray, this is a good player. And he's cute, which is an essential quality for a tennis player. Soccer players can be as ugly as they come, but not the tennis players. I feel bad about good players in the men's singles because all they can hope for is getting the chance to be crushed by Federer sooner or later in the tour. The women's singles are a fraud. I don't care for them. It's not a world championship. It's more like a tournament being held during the Stalin years in Soviet Union. Safina, Dementieva, Kuriskova, Sharapova, Ivanovna, and then two black American players to con people into thinking that the whole thing is happening in New York. |

It, alas, was not me doing the shapes that day, my role was to sit on a nearby table and pretend I wasn't laughing. Yay, I'm going to the record shop tomorrow!!! And to the music shop in an attempt to get a piano book. I'm trying to learn keyboard, but my left hand is not co-operating. I mean, how are you supposed to play notes with different timing at the same time. I grew up reading 'shaped' notes under the American system, which isn't helping either, and I'm used to singing alto, so i only worry about one note at a time and 'sounding' right, not playing 3 notes with each hand. (not that i am playing 3 notes with one hand, i can barely manage Puff the Magic Dragon!) And how do they expect you to play an octave interval with one hand? I can just about reach, but its so hard not to hit the notes next to one of them. Oh well, i suppose at my age it wasn't going to be easy. How I plan to learn guitar as well I don't know. Sorry for the ranting people. Feel free to send me tea and sympathy. (And advice!) |

Sorry for the ranting people. Feel free to send me tea and sympathy. (And advice!) : -))) You’re starting to learn it. These difficulties are normal. Don’t be so hard on yourself! And above all: don’t give up. Playing the piano is in fact a great way to enhance your motor skills. Age is not much of a hindrance - playing music, on the other hand, is usually a hurdle in the process of aging - it helps keeping our motor skills in shape. I have taught people at about their 50s and in some years they were playing some pieces just fine. Of course they’re not going to play Liszt’s Mephisto Waltzes or his Studies on Paganini, but they are usually able to tackle most of the pop repertoire and do eventually learn to play parts of these pieces. I had a student - a sweet lovely lady about 45 years-old - who actually learned to play bits of the Hungarian Rhapsodies. And she used to say she couldn’t even tap her own nose with the eyes closed! ; - )))) We can do so much things when we’re not engulfed in insecurity and fear. |

Yara, thanks so much for your encouraging words! I got a basic piano book today, i'm hoping it'll help. Was just a bit frustrated yesterday, hadn't practiced for about 3 weeks (and i've only had it a month or two) and although i can pick out simple melodies slowly with my right hand I just can't coordinate the two hands. I play the top notes and then squint sideways at the bass clef thinking 'gbdfa... its b'. Which doesn't exactly produce a fluid sound. But i'm planning to start practicing more left hand parts on their own, that might help with reading it more easily. I didn't know you teach piano, wow. Joxer, have fun! I can't wait until tomorrow - my uncle and his family are coming to visit from Asia. I havn't met my cousin yet, and can't wait, he's not even a year yet, he's so sweet! :) |

Mr Mercury wrote:Yara wrote: HERE WE ARE: BORN TO BE KINGS! AND I'LL KEEP OWNING THEM ALL TO THE END... ; -)))) OWNED! 4th girl DULY OWNED! And Beatles' box set too. Hehehe. I couldn't resist. I always whine about the lack of space in my place and so on, but I keep buying some stuff I really shouldn't. But I didn't have any of the Beatles' albums on CD so it does justify my purchase, doesn't it? DOESN'T IT? (waiting for words of approval) ; -)YES! :-) YEAH! I love democracy. ; -))) I'm putting a lot of clothes, books and cds aside to donate to an institution I trust in. I want to finish that before going back to the cloister. It's been more pleasant to sleep in the cloister than at home, so messy has been this place lately. I've been gathering more stuff than I'm able to place here. There are heaps of things on my bed and I have been sleeping on a lousy old couch. So I launched this YARA 2009-2010 plan: it's the FRUGAL YARA REFORM BILL. You're a lover of women now! I mean, not that you weren't earlier, but now it's writen there under your name. By women you mean me, of course. "Women" as a metaphor of my overwhelming beauty - I'm like the pure Idea of Beauty which has its various manifestations in the many pretty women all over the world! ; -)))) @ Catqueen, it's not really a WOW. It's more like an "ohh!". I miss teaching. I started teaching music when I was 15 because...well, it was either that, or I wouldn't be able to afford my studies! ; -)) Now my work and my studies prevent me from resuming my teaching activities, which I enjoyed so much. I was recently engaged in a project aimed at teaching music, Portuguese and Maths in poor communities, but there has been some fighting going on between the organizers and the whole thing came to a halt. A stalemate. I hope they find a way out of it because it's such a great project, despite the fact I took part in it. ; -)) It really was, a lot of great people and some great results and experiences. Well, there's no use crying over the split milk. Is that the idiom!? :op |

Oh Yara, hope you are able to teach again, judging from your posts I'd imagine you're a lovely, encouraging teacher! Hope the project works out too! And yes, you should definately have gotton the Beetles box set! :) Joxer, feel free to ignore the personal question, but are you a butcher or something? Or did you just happen to be defrosting a lot of meat when you posted? :) It definately sounds more... interesting... then going to a gym, although you may have more work explaining it to the neighbours! |

I love it all: the studies, the people, the libraries and the campus in general. i complain, because im doing something i know i dont want to do. its not that simple just to "leave it". we have to take courses that are required by the state- half of which have nothing to do with our actual degree. but in order to get the degree, you have to take the classes you dont want. i think its a silly concept but they try to make people 'well rounded students'....all fine and well, but if they dont care about it, whats the point? maybe people like me would be more focused if we got to do the classes that were more into what we want to learn! i wish there was more classes i wanted to take. some have been pleasent surprises- ethics, philosophy, forensic psych...those were all fun! but i havent really enjoyed my classes, since its not so much following what i want anymore. like all my literature classes? i never wanted to do them, but in order to suffice my major, i have to take them. believe me, i wish i could leave them. but im so close to being done, i cant! it would be stupid of me to quit now. maybe the other countries are lucky and are allowed to 'build their degree' as what jessie was saying. i like my college, its a good college. the campus is lovely, and calm. if i never went to college- i wouldve never seen europe! its the actual academia i have never been cut out for. and some people just arent! but unfortunatly, society tells you you have to have that expensive piece of paper to get you places in life- even though i see plenty of talented people be pushed aside because they dont have that stupid piece of paper- yet they were lucky enough to be born with the talent. is the US the only place with this problem? i didnt feel that so much in europe! im just hoping im able to find a job that i will be happy with using my language skills- at least to pay the bills until i can really do what i want. |

Yay, i found out today I'm finally back to college at the end of this week! This whole working-and-studying thing is hectic, but I can;t wait to get back. (Hehe, watch this space, in about a month i'll be bemaoning the homework! I love the actual classes, and i do find the reading interesting, but after working all day it is a little disheartening to come home and have to study. And I might as well switch my voicemail to 'i am not available. I would love to go to your house/out/swimming/or whatever you are doing, I am studying'. I'm sure my friends think i just hate them!) Joxer, thank you for clearing that up! I have never seen any of the Rocky movies, although i have heard about them... so i know they are uniquivically the best, most amazing and wonderful films ever made (next to the Godfather, that is). :) And I'm so glad treehuggers still exist en masse somewhere, they're pretty rare in my neck of the woods! Although I have a friend who spent a lot of time in Cornwall in her teens and she's a total hippy, I love her to bits! And Yara, i hope they left the sign up, surely it's only effect would have been to make people smile?! |

I fully understand that. Believe me. There are some lousy disciplines here which have absolutely nothing to do with I'm going to be doing. I study Physics and Maths and am at the High School of Music - "child phsychology" is hardly a discipline I need to take, but I have to. There are plenty like that. The reason they give is the following: they want the students to have a compreehensive education and develop their intelectual lives as a whole, understanding that the world is not as neatly separated in disciplines as the College schedule. This pressure is especially strong on us because they fear that we'll leave College as specialized, narrow-minded technicians, without a broader cultural formation. I hate humanities. I really do. To the point of having to force myself into reading things in a quasi-monastic way. Luckily, I have been faring quite well especially because of this stressful dedication, but it does take its toll on me sometimes: I eagerly wait for the moment when I won't have to read books with narrative and words anymore. ; -)) So it does happen here too. But your situation is a bit different. I'd be complaining too - I mean, it's the end of the whole thing, you must be tired already, and some disciplines do demand a lot of our patience. Besides, I think there's something else there: it seems, that's what I understood from what you wrote, that you more or less found yourself in Europe, and having returned to your country has been very hard to you. Being, as you are, on your way to finish the whole thing, I'd struggle to wrap it all up as soon as possible too and get that piece of paper that, as you said, people accord, sometimes wrongly so, so much importance to. But this piece of paper is probably going to open up some doors to you and give you the financial support you need to look out for the things you do enjoying working with. It's the material base you need to launch the career you want for yourself, I guess. So, ROCK ON, GIRL. It's all going to be all right. And we all like you here. : -)))) |

What is the world coming to... I was talking to a friend recently, and music came up. I said I'm on a binge of Alice Cooper, and she said... she said... Who's she? When i mentioned songs and said that she is in fact a he, she knew one or two songs, but still didn't know who he was. No recollection of ever having heard of him. The last time i felt that socially jolted was a week after Michael Jackson's death when i said to someone (who lives a fairly secluded life) that it was so sad about Michael Jackson and she asked what happened, she had somehow not heard that he had died a week before! |

Good news. Quite a sad situation she was in, though. Frankly, if I were the one who had to tell my friend such a thing, I don't know how I'd do it - she'd never believe me! I'm afraid she'd take it as a challenge and answer in kind - everytime she met her boyfriend and I happened to be around, she'd regard it as a chance to show her pride and to challenge me: "See, he's NOT what you said...". Why am I almost certain of that? Because I have no boyfriend. ; -))) You know, for as much as my friends may like me, there'd always be that feeling of: "Because she doesn't date anyone ever since she broke up with Mr. Umbilical Cord, she wants to spoil it for me". ; -)) Really glad things worked out just fine to her. There are people who get stuck in this kind of situation for god knows how much time. |

First, Angeline comes up with "alacrity of mind". Then Cacatua throws a "vitriolic" in her post. Now you naturally toss a "binge" around. I know some courts need translators, depending on the language. Other then that, you could maybe contact a publisher? And because translating (written things at least) can be done at home, you could try companies not in your area. I know a couple of people who used to translate, one in court and one for a publisher. But the publisher was a small (tiny!) strongly evangelical Christian company in America - a lot of religious publishers translate lots of short books and leaflets to distribute in other places. My friend was very badly paid, i think that's partly why he stopped, but there must be good publishers looking for people somewhere. Is there a writers organisation you could contact in your area that might know how to go about applying? |

If you get two players, all the better - and you can easily justify it: "You see...[points out to Queen's recordings]...I'm a big fan of Queen so I want to be able to play more than one disc at a time to get a better sense of the layered harmonies. Queen sort of demands this kind of thing". And you're fine. No one will suspect that you dropped the same hint to different people just to make sure you got the thing! Listen to me, Joxer! You've got a lot to learn. Everyone does, in fact: I have never, ever met a single person who hasn't something to learn with me. I get everything I want and do anything I feel like doing. And then I get punished. ; -))) But I only get punished because society contrives such notions as "morals" and "norms" to curb people's freedom. Otherwise I'd be even rich as of now. I got some good money once pretending I was a crippled beggar. I wanted to go to a concert and had no money. This obvious thought came to mind: "But why does it have to be MY money!?". It's serious! And I did go to the concert. You doubt it? Last guy who doubted me woke up sedated and had his wallet emptied. And it was ALL HIS CHOICE, every single step: from the boose to the spending. ; -))) |

Is there a writers organisation you could contact in your area that might know how to go about applying? im sure there is, and thats a good suggestion! i should ask my dad to see what he knows about it. i would like to mix my minor and major if i can :D |

Gah! I'm so excited! This school year has gotten off to a great start! First of all, I'm a junior in high school! So awesome! My classes are so cool! I officially love honor physiology! It's so interesting, I don't understand how people hate it! I love it! Science has always been my thing! (except physics...) I'm taking French 3 with a new teacher! He's a black man from Africa! It's so cool! Hard to understand him through the accent, but I'm actually learning! My old teacher didn't teach very much since she was late often. Best part: learning to play bass!!!!! I've already learned 5 notes and a song in two days! Thing is, I'm learning by myself cuz my teacher is always busy with the guitarists and percussionists.... There are only two bassists, including me, and we have to go outside the class to learn with pieces of paper.... I guess it's better without the teacher. More fun. Rest of my classes aren't that great, but my boyfriend makes my history class enjoyable! When I get bored, all I have to do is ask him for help or look to my right to look at his face *sigh* |

I got another impot. I'm probably the only person who gets dropped on for bugger all. I rather write whatever the nonsense they want me to than go through all that guilt-trip, which is what happens if I try to argue. it was such a bog-standard remark, it was a statement of fact. Fact is FACT. The girl sat in such a way as to let the WORLD see her feathers. I pointed it out to her trying to be HELPFUL. Instead of thanking me, she got the hump and dropped me in it, as if I had said something deeply offensive. Now, when people say "hey, you hymie, how did your grandpa enjoy the oven?", I don't drop them in it and certainly don't go all balistic about it. I know people can be very nasty. If I kept my ear to the ground like this girl does, I wouldn't be able to get outta bed! Had she called me all the possible names or, better, just given me the cold shoulder, there'd be no problem - I'd actually grow some respect for her. But that!??? I write the nonsense and pretend I believe in every word they have me write, but I don't listen to the lectures on the evolution of ethical thinking ever since Aristotle. I won't give them the CHANCE! That's why I don't argue. Wanna punish me? Do it. But no "ethical thinking from the Etruscans to John Rawls" on me. I don't care. Why should I? IT'S NEW YEAR, my dear Queenzoners. NEW YEAR. I wish all people the best and just ignore the nastiness. Isn't that the way to go? |

IT'S NEW YEAR, my dear Queenzoners. NEW YEAR. I wish all people the best and just ignore the nastiness. Isn't that the way to go? O dear. Is your college really strict or something? Or am i just that much of a goody-goody that i've never gotten into trouble in college (aside from the time the entire class was given a right bollocking by a teacher for not turning up for an extra lecture - and even then, i was one of the five who did turn up for it!) It just seems like you are a really nice person and you get into trouble a lot more then you should - and for silly things like the sign on the tree, things that people shouldn't be getting into trouble for! I am very depressed - another of my good friends is moving. In the last year and two months, my 5 closest friends have moved. This one is staying in the country, which is a significant improvement over the mass exodus to Australia (apologies, Zebonka, i like Aus, I just wish my friends didn't like it quite as much), I will get to see her at least every couple of months, but this is really really frustrating! And I'm tied down here with work, college and other stuff, so its not even like I can go visit them in the near future. Waaahhhh!!!!!!!!! Please forgive the excessive whining, but I'm going through a really tough time the last few months. I keep thinking various things are nearly worked out, and then they get unworked out, but anyway, whining is really annoying, so I shall try to put a lid on it hereafter. :) |

Had I been given a deserved dressing-down by a PROFESSOR, I'd have lumped it. But the sweat was having the administration bailing on me with a never-ending cringeworthy rabbitting about human dignity. Crikey, dragon-fly! Mine it was not; if she aimed her fanny at me, the feathers went literally for the birds, where they belong, by the way. ; -)) The NEARBY PERSON? She let the whole UNIVERSE see it. It was cosmic. Brian would have liked it: she let the cosmos rock! I didn't say she had to make it a shaven haven, I didn't go into details, my goal was trying to protect her from snide remarks, which are sure to come. I chose my words with so much care that you wouldn't believe it - it came out even as a dainty comment, to my taste, very appropriate and adequate. She could have answered: "Hey, Christ killer, get this whiffy beanpole of a body outta my sight". I'd be like: "Rad! Now we're talking. It's BETWEEN US". And it's FACT: my forebearers did kill Christ and I AM SMELLY. It's no secret. I have some hormonal issues which the doctor has been unable to treat for TWO YEARS. But TURNING ME IN TO THE ADMINISTRATION? The professors are ok, but the bureaucratic staff are a bunch of noodges. I'm okay now, though. ; -)) CATQUEEN: these are not friends! They left you for the tanned, muscled long-dicked men on the beach without entertaining any second thoughts about it. You'll tell me: "I'd have done the same", but that's not the issue. It's in THESE TIMES that a friendship is put to test - even if there are better things waiting for you out there, you'll stick to your friends. Shouldn't it be like that? "FRIEND FIRST" is actually my motto. It's either "FRIEND FIRST" or, as you can see, "CHANGE!". And when they opt for change they leave you cold and alone and sad. FRIEND FIRST. :-))) |

Well, the line they fed me was that they 'need work'. But I'm sure the beaches and accompanying men are secretly part of the issue! Regarding your friend(?), maybe next time, instead of pointing out the view, you could oggle her, then loudly say, "Hey, does anyone here have a camera? I need a new facebook profile picture!" That may also get you reported, but it would be much more entertaining and potentially explosive. :) And Dragonfly, I too have noticed the same thing - the nicer you are to some people, the worse you get treated! What's the solution - become nasty? |

On a different note, I saw John Lennon today. Bizzarrely, he hasn't aged, in fact, he looks a bit younger then he looked when he died. He looked maybe about 30 or so. But he disappeared before I could talk to him. (Disappeared as in walked away, not disappeared in a puff of smoke.) |

Become nasty?- No way! I'm not saying that! I'm saying that the reality is not perfect and cruel. But even so good people do good things. And..... sometimes get punished for it! Which is unfair of course. But becoming nasty isn't a way either. We have to keep balance: be kind, but not weak, be strong but not rough. And no way of losing kindness! |

Obviously, he's alive -- Gorden's alive! Flash! Aaa-aaa! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Although, if it's the boring explanation that you want, he seems to live near whereI was. I've seen him around a few times, and always want to talk to him, he looks like a lovely guy (as well as looking incredibly like John Lennon.) He's so like John Lennon, I once told one of my friends about him and she knew who I meant immediately because she's seen him around too. |

I wasn't having a jangle nor behaving like a mighty mouth. By no means I have a low boiling-point, I'm quite patient actually. What really made me go off the deep end was her decision to go public with it! I was actually the only one trying to fend remarks all too near her bones off from her. Much to my surprise, instead of trying to talk to me, she went on to blow the lid off what I had told her in a respectful way. I really took it to heart, maybe wrongly so, and played the game. Okay, here's a question for the native English speakers on this forum: When somebody you know goes to a funeral, what do you say to him/her? My teacher, who's a highly skilled English teacher (close to native speaker), didn't know the answer and me neither. According to her, saying something like 'good luck' sounds awkward in this kind of situation. In Dutch we have a word which perfectly fits in a situation as described above, but we couldn't find a proper English equivalent. Anyone? |

Keep it to a minimum, really. "I'm really sorry. Take care" is enough already. DON'T TRY TO CHEER THE PERSON UP. NO: 1) "Always good to die...you know, you come back with a fresh view of things". NO! or 2) "Good funeral". "Enjoy". NO!!! See to it that you don't make either of the two blunders above and you'll be fine. Take heed of this advice, my friend. Many a person has already lost a mate for saying that "well, he decided it was time to give up the ghost", and so on... |

Maybe 'I'm sorry for your loss' if the person who died was a friend or family member of theirs. If they are going to a funeral to support a friend who has lost someone (for instance, if your friend went to his friend's mother's funeral, but didn't actually know the person who died) you could just say that you're sorry, and will be thinking of him as he's at the funeral. But no matter what your language is, those conversations are tough. Once your friend knows you care, that is the main thing, even if you don't have the 'perfect' words. |

That won't do it either. 3) "Sometimes we need to die a bit so we can take a rest of this wretched world...". No. ------ Rick to the person: "I'm really sorry. I hope you're ok. Take care". That's EXACTLY what you're gonna say. If there's a word too many you run the risk of losing the mate. The friend. The eventual girlfriend. Ah, yes, I forgot about this: if you're into this girl, provided it's a girl - I mean the living one! - please, it's NOT THE TIME TO tell her to CALL YOU. --- Are we clear, Rick? ; -)))) |

WE SAY "YOU HAVE MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY." FACT FACT FACT. Actually, yeah, something as simple as "I'm so sorry for your loss" is suitable. They'd know the sentiment is still there, and they'd understand anyway. |

Congratulations on your new job, my dear. I'm very happy for you. I hope it helps you relieve the anxiety you've been feeling lately and give you strength to go through this delicate moment of doubt and uncertainty in your life. You seem to be an intelligent, fun, cheerful, kind and sensitive young lady. I think only a kind and sensitive person would be as worried about a friend as you were a few weeks ago. ROCK ON!!!! : )))) |

Weirdest part was... As he shook my hand, he said.. "GOD BLESS YOU!!!" .. LMAO. I know that isn't very funny to some, but to me it is. That is amazing! Wow! I so need to move to London, nothing cool ever happens here! That's great that you were able to talk to him personally, there's always the fear that you'd queue for hours and not get to talk to him! Or that it would be a total let-down and the person wouldn't be anything like what you thought or something. I'm so glad for you! [/img] And I know what you mean about the God bless you bit, it doesn't quite fit with the image! :) Incidently, did you know Alice Cooper is a Christian? As in, goes to church, Bible studies, prays, etc. And there's a few songs he won't perform anymore, because they promote a lifestyle he feels is wrong. He doesn't publicise it a lot, because he says people would focus on Alice when they should be focusing on Jesus, but he has mentioned it in a few interviews and stuff. :) |

I do not feel good. I am going to the doctor this week. I have not felt great for a while and put it down to stress, because at the moment I have a lot of stuff going on, but last night I went to the gym (to work off my stress!) and my heart decided to go a bit crazy and I got dizzy and stuff. This is NOT supposed to happen! This was NOT in my plan! I am NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, I'm sure its nothing, but too many people in my family have dropped dead of heart attacks with no warning or symptoms for me to risk ignoring it. I really, really, really don't want to spend the rest of my life on meds (although I can think of worse options). :( Worry, worry, worry. |

I normally am really optimistic, just the last couple of months I've kinda gone through the mill, and am so tired of it. And now am not feeling well on top of it. Whew, spend half the day in A and E after being referred by my gp, and I'M FINE!!!!!!! *dances around room* I am so relieved! Still waiting for one result, but everything else is fine, I am so happy! So basically i just have to take it easy and see if i can avoid excess stress until some of what's been going on is over. I don't even have to take time off work. I am so so so so so relieved! Of course it does still leave the question of what was wrong, as i wasn't well, but at least its nothing too serious. I'm sure the final doctor i saw thinks i'm a totally paranoid hypocondriac, but never mind. |

I like it, dragon fly, i like it! That would wake you up alright, maybe i should try it. :) I set an alarm clock with two alarms, and also sometimes set 3 alarms on my phone, and i still sleep peacefully on through them all. Although, since i started putting my phone out of reach, it helps. I have to wake up enough to retreive it from under my desk, so it helps. |
