here it's the file kindly shared by Anthony (City-in-the-Sun), Queen live at the Super Bowl, Sun City, Bophuthatswana, South Africa, October 19th(?), 1984. speed corrected using GoldWave (increased about a semitone) new total running time: 44:09 I see no point in splitting this onto tracks since it's MP3 but I might to later on... now the link to it, enjoy! http://wwwstatic.megaupload.com/gui2/logo.gif" "border=0"> |

I forgot to mention that I included the snippet (pitch corrected too) also shared by Anthony at the Serious discussion forum including Under Pressure, I Want To Break Free (not included at the big mp3 file) and Crazy Little Thing (Freddie's intro speech, also not included on the before mentioned) |

Thanks for your efforts. Is it me or is there something strange going on, particularly in Under pressure? Sounds like some unusual studio overdubs in places. |
A Word In Your Ear 10.06.2009 19:11 |
Thanks Alex, for the speed corrected version, Also a Big Thank You to Anthony for originally Uploading it. You know, It's been a really intersting couple of weeks, first Rosario & now Sun City :-) THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks Alex. Does Goldwave allow you to correct the speed of the original MP3 file and then save it back out WITHOUT having to re-encode it? Many Thanks, David |

You are right - this recording indeed reveals a lot of the 'tricks' that Queen used in those days on stage, to enhance their sound and make them sound bigger. What you hear is no studio trickery, or overdubs, it's just live effects like reverb added to high and/or long notes and harmonies. Not unusual for Queen, or any band, especially in the 80's - it's just that the mix on this night seems to have been a bit rougher then normally. And of course the reason that you hear it so well is the sheer crisp clarity of this tape. ;-) |

Can't remember having heard that during the QPR 2008 shows. It is very useful that this recording is a real nice soundboard, we learn new things with this tape... We now know what this effect sounded like "on stage", it would be nice to check if we hear that similar kind of things on other recordings from the 1984 tour, with an audience tape we'll discover what the effect was when we were in the audience ! By the way, thanks a bunch to Alex for having corrected the speed, I used Windows Media Player tools to correct it while listening, it is even much more enjoyable at the correct speed ! Regards, Olivier, Belgium. |

Thanks, I just can't get enough of this recording. It's so brilliant and now even more so. Can't wait to hear the other songs:-) I wonder, did they still play Stone Cold Crazy -Great king rat? |
cmi 11.06.2009 08:15 |
on my way up Yes indeed it's still the question if they were already dropped for Sun City shows or remained in the set until Rock In Rio . |

It's a beauty indeed. It's the only soundboard recording from 1984 so while listening I felt a similar tone like when I heard the multitracks of Killer Queen and BoRhap for the first time. It is like to be a witness of a creation of a very special item. Again I thank Anthony for making this possible and my thanks goes also to you, Alex, for working on a better listening experience. I'm very proud of this forum. regards W. |

brians wig wrote: Thanks Alex. Does Goldwave allow you to correct the speed of the original MP3 file and then save it back out WITHOUT having to re-encode it? Many Thanks, David Hi David! There is no application capable to work on compressed audio files like MP3 without re-encoding; applications like Fission for example, would allow you only to do basic operations like cutting clips and parts of the sound file. Equalization or noise reduction, necessarily need a decompression of the sound file, in this case, MP3. GoldWave works that way, it decompresses the MP3, I work on it and when I "save" the file, it saves it using the same attributes of the original file (in this case, 160 kbps) |
Ale Solan 11.06.2009 12:35 |
Eventually, I think (hope) we'll cross with a loseless version! |

Thanks Alex. I noticed after you'd posted that you listed the new running time, so using soundforge I was able to correct it myself and just save that as a wav ready for CD, with no further encoding. Hopefully Anthony will upload the rest of it soon (including the last few seconds of NIH). This is the stuff that ought to be released officially, not Queen in Ukraine. I've got such a buzz from listening to this that I never get from QPR gigs. |

There was an official release in South Africa in 1984 Link |

Linky Link same version you pointed out but Brazilian, both including only Live Killers stuff... No Sun City at all ;-) |

Maybe you misread that running time part but the reduction on it it's normal when you increase the pitch of a recording (on the opposite, when you decrease the pitch, running time increases) I really didn't mind on re-encoding the file since it's MP3, I could easily split the file onto tracks, encode to FLAC, etc but I saw no point on it... I might do that editting stuff for myself and to load it on my mp3 player ;-) And you're right about QP releases... no offense against any Ukranian people but crowd was so lame that night! Watching that gig like I did when I first go it past year brings you down dude! hehe =P |

Actually you should first convert to "lossless" (like 16kbit 44.1 or higher pcm), make the adjustments then post it in flac, without converting to mp3. With converting again to low bitrate mp3, you just added another "lossy" conversion (and again with low bitrate) |
