Hey guys I'm new here. I'm 19 this year and have been a huge Queen fan since before I could walk. Well, as you guys might've well noted by now, I kinda missed out all the magical concerts by the band, both during their early years and also later years. I've only ever watched a few Queen concerts on DVD but I'd just like to ask all you fans out there which concerts would you recommend to me? I really want to watch all their best shows, so please help me![/img] Sorry if this post appears twice, I'm still finding it hard to post and understand everything! Thanks again guys!
I can only tell you my personal favourites. Unfortunately I'm not a collector and doubtless loads of people will tell where to download bootlegs etc. but;
Queen on fire: Live at the Bowl(82)
Queen Rock montreal(81)
Are my personal favourites.
You can also get; Live at wembley (86) -best avoided (good document - shite performance)
Live in Budapest (86) - Ok but speeded up last time I saw it.
Final Live in Japan (85) - Muddy mix but ok visually.
Live in Rio(85) - only have this on vhs. Muddy mix again. Might be on DVD but who knows.
As I say I'm no avid collector so you'll get more ideas from other people no doubt. Be wary of people trying to swap or sell stuff though.

Of the official releases I think On Fire at the Bowl and Rock Montreal are the best performances and setlists, although Live at Wembley is pretty cool as an event to watch, and theres some outstanding bits in there.
If you want to see some of the cream of the crop you need to throw yourself into the announce section of this site, and pick up some of the 70's bootleg videos being offered for torrent - the Houston and Earls Court shows are some of the best I think!
Queen Rock Montreal also put a version where the Live Aid concert was included.. and that is the part I watch. I had never seen the Live Aid show, until I got the DVD. I was awestruck at how Freddie energized the crowd, its quite moving to see.

Why is there a general idea that the Wembley concert wasn't good? I used to and still think it's one of the best concerts around.
Speaking personally I don't think it was a good performance. I was actually there and it was a fantastic event but on listening to it now it has a few holes;
Fred was nowhere near is best. He'd sung the night before obviously. Ducked out of most of the high notes. You can actually see him coughing at one point. He was a little out of shape by then too. The dvd/cd has some quite obvious vocal overdubs in ONE VISION - you can even still hear the original track behind it.
Brian May's performance was patchy. Great on MAGIC, a bit dodgy on FOREVER. Also his guitar sound wasn't sorted. His solo was a little directionless and sloppy too. Listen to his sound on LIVE AT THE BOWL and compare.
Drum sound booms to much and tends to overpower everything also Roger actually drops a beat in GA GA !
The over all mix isn't very cohesive to my ears.
Tracklisting left alot to be desired - some lazy choices. No SOMEBODY, no KILLER QUEEN. Loved the Rock n roll medley though.
As I said it was a brilliant night and I'll never forget it but in isolation the recording isn't that great. I was at the bowl too - my first Queen show - another fantastic night. Can't really say I enjoyed it more or less than wembley but the recording stands up much better.
Hope this helps - I'm sure I'll get crucified now but hey...
Hey that really helped man! Thanks! Nah, you wont get crucified! I kinda agree, somehow, Freddie looked a bit sick compared to previous concerts. You can watch it during Seven Seas Of Rhye. No doubt it was the best anyone could possibly do, but something was amiss man. But hey, let's look on the bright side, Wembley may have been not up to "Queen Standard" but it still beats any performance by any other band.
Well I've watched part of the clips on Youtube and it seems the closest thing to awesome. I'm trying so hard to find a good link to download the concert but I can't seem to find it. =(
