AMERICAN IDOL loser ADAM LAMBERT has dismissed rumours he is set to front rock legends QUEEN. The group's guitarist Brian May gave 2009 runner-up Lambert a boost by praising his abilities after performing with the singer on the finale of the U.S. TV talent show last month (May09). But Lambert insists he has no plans to join the band full-time, as he wants to carve out a career in his own right. Lambert says, "They’ve never actually offered me anything. They expressed interest in working together, but just said they’d like to have a meaningful conversation, and that’s it. It could have meant they wanted me to come to dinner with them, it could have meant they wanted to talk about the meaning of life. "I don’t know if joining the band permanently is in the cards (sic) for me right now. They’re legends; I’m just the new kid on the block." source: link |

Yes finally i was getting tired of the media talking about Adamreplacing mercury and becoming the next Mercury and only because of that stupid interview Brian May did with the Rolling Stones he didnt say anything about teaming up with Lambert. Plus if Queen gets a nother lead singer other than PR it has to be a very expierenced singer like David Bowie (who is actually sick too bad) , but not some new kid like Lambert whos only famous cause he won some singing competition thats is more on pop than rock. |

This is good news. However, I still wouldn't mind him and Queen doing 'something' in the future. I'm not sure what that 'something' is, but it would be interesting. |

Don't get me wrong; I think a Q+Lambert collaboration would be too much like cashing in, but really ... you have to re-evaluate just how important your 'support' is in this scenario. |

The rest of you may throw rocks at me, but a lot of us out here love Queen and Adam Lambert and would love to see them appear together sometime. Adam has a fantastic voice and stage presence. Nobody can replace Freddie, but alas, Freddie isn't coming back no matter how much we might wish it. I'm just hoping that iTunes will get the video of Queen's appearance on Idol with Lambert and Allen so I can buy that for now. |

Brian and Roger were clearly very impressed with Adam Lambert when he joined them in WATC on the Idols finale. Anyone who doubts Adam's insane vocal ability should check out his original songs on youtube. He is a counter tenor. His range is out of this world. He is also an incredibly passionate performer with immense stage presence. His songs with his former band Citizen Vein and his Zodiac Show performances are mind-blowing. He is not in another league from his AI competitiors, he's in another stratosphere. There are plenty of people, myself included, who would be delighted to see Adam do some gigs with Brian and Roger. He would not be "replacing" Freddie, no one could. Not to mention, Adam will be putting out his own multi-platinum cds and selling out arenas on his own, in no time. He is a visionary. He is the most unique vocalist and performer I have seen since Freddie. I've been a Freddie-worshipper for 31 yrs now, and will always be one. And I know Freddie was an admirer of great vocal talent. And he would be thrilled to have someone like Adam sing his songs. |

Melina67 I agree with you for the most part, though I think that Adam needs to be able to be creative in any endeavor, and so does Queen if they are to go forward. They can't just go around reliving Queen's the past. We all want to hear the Queen songs that we know and love, and at least some of us would be very excited to see Adam performing them with Queen, but that in itself would probably not sustain all involved for more than a while. As I have posted here in another thread, I would very much like to see Adam get together with Brian and Roger and give it a try to see if they have the right chemistry to recapture some of the magic that we all saw when Freddie was there and Queen was whole. I think that Adam may have the ability to do that. I know that the hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw them together on Idol! And I too saw what looked like an affinity between Adam and Brian at the Idol finale, and also saw a look on Roger's face that gave me hope. But it was far too brief of an appearance! It was just a tease! I hope they do get together and explore the possiblity of working together at some point. |

No question that Adam has a great voice. There's no doubt that Freddie had a great voice. Does this mean that Adam, Dr. May and Roger Taylor should join forces? Originally Brian made a comment after Freddie's death that Queen would no longer continue. Well it took over 20 years, but Brian and Roger changed their tune having Paul Rogers replace Freddie on vocals, whether Paul sounds like Freddie or not. Yes, I'm among those of you who agree that this was not the brightest move the remaining members of Queen should have made. If they wanted to add Paul to the band, despite what they originally said, they should not have used the "Queen" moniker at all, though something like "New Queen" would have been more palletable. Now there's talk about Adam 'maybe' doing something with Queen. Why, because he has a high voice? He still doesn't sound like Freddie. Here's something to ponder.....if Queen want to continue, why not go for somebody that really does sound like Freddie. Has anybody heard of Valensia Clarkson? I suggest if you haven't, you take a listen to his album called Valensia.....Queen tribute. This CD can be imported from your favorite online import store. It's on Lion Music out of Finland. Am I promoting him? No! I'm 56 and have been listening to Queen since their first album, and for those who really miss Freddie, this is one hell of a talented man. Not only does he sound 98% like Freddie, but he plays all the guitars (ala Brian) and plays bass. BTW, this album was released in 2004. |

I have been a follower of Queen since the 70's when I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody and bought my first Queen album 'A Night at the Opera' then right through to 'Made in Heaven'. I don't usually watch 'American Idol' but this year caught most of the last few episodes including the finale and I have to say that Adam Lambert was the 'stand out' act, continually changing it up each week - incredible vocals. When he sang 'We are the Champions' with Queen on the finale it was incredible and I thought at last somebody who can really do justice to the Queen songs. Would love if he collaborated with Queen, wrote some new songs and went on tour particularly round the UK - I would be front in line to get some tickets! |

OK buzzard, I went and looked up Valensia. He is represented on You Tube, where I found sound tracks from the Queen Tribute. I didn't seem to find any performance videos. I will admit that his voice sounds similar to Freddie's, but I didn't sense any of Freddie's energy coming from these recordings. It was like the difference between a signature and a carefully executed copy. The Wembley DVD. Right before Under Pressure, Freddie is tossing off some fluid, melodic voice riffs. He just opens his mouth and they roll out almost effortlessly. All the time Freddie is animated, expressive and interacting with the crowd. This is what I see that Adam has. He has that energy and charisma and his voice is effortless and fluid. That is how he is like Freddie, but he is not a carefully executed copy, and likely never would be. |

Shemp Sorry if some of us sound a bit besotted, but something in Adam (which is perhaps more the potential to be great at the moment) has struck a chord that has been silent since Freddie's loss. The door to greatness has been opened a crack, but will Adam get through it? |

If he can do "Death on two legs", followed by "love of my life" then maybe "we will rock you".... Ill be a little more inclined to take notice. But, all I am seeing is a another product of the times, some dude with good looks and a sweet voice that most 16 year old girls love ... He struck a cord with We are the champions...OK.... but is that how shallow we are these days... To hear one dude on a talent show sing a few notes and and praise him as the next best thing??? |

You may be right, Shemp. I'd like to have heard a lot more myself, but Adam singing 1/2 of WATC was all we got, plus the expressions on Brian's and Roger's faces (plus the fact that they were there) and what Brian said about Adam afterward. We are a couple of old boomers, and both of us see the same thing in Adam, which I keep trying to define. We saw it and were hearing it from other sources long before the finale. I guess now that Adam has begun working on an album which will supposedly be going in whatever direction he wants to pursue, as opposed to coming up with an assignment of some oldie but goodie from a particular genre each week as was done on Idol, we will see what comes of him getting into uncharted territory. |

That 1/2 of WATC took people by supprise. It was out of the blue, hence why it took people in. But after all the hype has died, he will be just another flash in the pan. Im only saying this being that its idol. By the time he sang WATC, he was going through wardrobe each week, make up, sining lessons. Its all product. Just to rake in the dollors. Its as if I am a chef, and I give you a table spoon amount fo this great soup I cooked, or a fork with steak on it.... from there you say its great, the best... yet all I have done is given you a sample... further more, I didnt even make the recipe, I just made some one else's.... all in all, I did it in a chef compitetion... So... im not seening anythign orginal, nor ground breaking.... Good luck to Adam with ride, hope it doesnt harm him, as once it all dies down, it can get depressing... I just cant say nothign has been seen of him since the likes of Freddie.... when he's seeing a Freddie song, and theres heaps of guys with better voices closer to freddie |

Shemp, Adam didn't just fall out of the sky and become a product created by Idol. He's 27 and has been involved in theater since he was 10 years old. He has worked very hard to get that fluid, effortless, spectacular voice with a spread of four octaves. He is totally comfortable and confident, and some might say flamboyant, on stage. Not only that but he is a genuinely nice guy who has never shown any arrogance and has always been good natured. He had it impressed upon him that you were helped along the way and it is up to you to give back and help others who are coming along behind you, and he does that. I'm pretty sure that his wardrobe has been mostly his own, and the hair and make-up has been with him for a while also. What you see is pretty much of his own creation, the only thing different now being the national, and beyond, exposure he has gotten from being on Idol. Of course now too he is getting a huge amount of attention which can be very destructive. RCA has signed him and is eager to market him globally, encouraging him to be as flamboyant as he wants to be. His voice is not a match with Freddie's though it might come closest in Killer Queen, but there was more to Freddie than his voice. Should you like to see any or all of Adam's Idol performances they can be found at: http://www.thebestarts.com/AdamLambert/idol/default.aspx |

But, if it wasnt for Idol... how would we know about him? With out suggesting the internet and other locations, being that many performers could be spotlighted that way, but Idol has been his vehical, and like most talented people who go on the show, its money making.. dishing up people who can make other people money... Should he go on, to sell records, cut him self a new image, and really make it as his own to which 5 -10 years from now you would not even know at all he was on idol, I will gladly eat my own words, and raise a toast to him... but,,, Im there are many many more who are in the same boat as him and have not been granted the spotlight... In this day and age, idol and other shows like that are a dime a dozen... its just the sign of the times... and I just cant help but hear a little young boy whos not yet a full grown man whos been give such wonderfull applause... im not giving him the thumbs down, or retracting from his talents and bashing on him.. Im just not seeing .... the wow factor.... |

Shemp, We are in agreement that Adam has yet to prove himself as someone who is more than a flash in the pan at the moment. He had been trying to decide whether to stay in theater or to go for a career as a recording artist, and had something of an epiphany while at the Burning Man orgy in the desert. People who knew him had been trying to get him to audition for Idol for some time, and this time around the timing was right and he decided to have a go at it for the sake of having a platform to get himself out there on the national stage. We haven't watched Idol for years because they always seem to throw anyone that is sort of original out of it and churn out the same kind of forgettable product. But this year, by accident, we happened across it when Adam was performing and had to see how he would fare, as he was in a different league - usually the one that gets a contestant voted off. Apparently Idol was needy enough of some sort of boost that the judges actually threw themselves behind Adam instead of condemning him for being "theatrical" - the kiss of death that rid them of Constantine Maroulis several years back (last time I watched) and who was just nominated for a Tony award. Adam got the exposure he wanted out of the show and now has some backing to pursue his career, sink or swim. So far we are behind him, but he will certainly have to earn our continued support. Apparently Brian and Roger saw something there too, and will be watching. You cannot redo Freddie, but only come up with someone similar but different. To read some of the posts on here, you would think that only Freddie's reincarnation would gain their approval. It is only an ongoing problem because Brian and Roger want to keep going. But no matter what they do it will make any number of people unhappy. I do thank you, Shemp, for a good debate. I have been trying to define the ineffable, which has apparently been an exercise in futility, as either one gets it or not. We will have to agree to disagree for the most part. |

Adam Lambert will look absolutely ridiculous with Queen. They are the champions of Rock, senior persons and he is just a baby in comparison with them. Besides, he is pop. He is not suited to such time-honoured musicians. This would mean having no respect for themselves. |

I just can't resist stirring the pot one more time. On one side we have the hard-core Freddie Mercury fans who think it sacreligious for anyone, especially Adam Lambert, to stand in Freddie's place. On the other side we have the young set of Adam Lambert fans who think that Queen consists of old fossils who should mind their own business. In the middle we have quite a lot of a little older people who loved Queen, albeit in a more casual way than the hard-core, and probably haven't paid much attention to them for a while. These are the people who find themselves besotted with Adam for reasons they can't quite explain, though a lot of them have attempted to do so. From these people I hear Adam Lambert and Queen or Freddie Mercury mentioned in the same sentence quite frequently. They would buy tickets, travel distances and and maybe even climb over the top of each other to see Queen with Adam. They would probably buy anything connected with it. The ones who think of Queen as old fossils would likely show up to see Adam and just in case they might miss something. Yeah, good old capitalism. ;o) |

The word "respect" gets used far too easily here. Lose respect for them if they turn out to be rapists or something. But for playing with a young singer?. Give me a break. Adam wants his own career and rightly so. Brian/Roger clearly aren't done even with Paul leaving. There is OBVIOUSLY an appetite for Queen+ Adam but perhaps not so much in the "Adam joins Queen" vein so really there's only one thing they could do to satisfy most folks. Queen+ Adam Lambert live in concert, one night only. Rehearse for several weeks, carefully pick the right songs, put the concert on in America (where, let's face it, for now, Adam is only big in the US,) film it, release it as a CD/DVD and voila! |
