Yes, there will be a movie about the rock-band Queen. It will focus around the life of Freddie Mercury though...
Unfortunately, due to copyrights and the unwillingness of Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Freddie's family to further whore into the idea, the feature film will not contain any original Queen music.
The names of the band and band members will also have to be renamed, to avoid lawsuits. Rumour has it, that in the film Brian May will be renamed to Jimmy Page, Roger Taylor to Rod Stewart, Freddie Mercury to Paul Rodgers and John Deacon to Buddy Whatshisname. The name Queen will naturally be replaced by "that gay band" making the movie title into "That gay band - the life and demise of Paul Rodgers", which is a great compromise and surely fans of Queen will reconigize their favorite band from the film name.
Further information about this project will be posted on Brian May's soapbox sometime this July. Keep your fingers crossed!
We have been waiting this movie since 2006... and still quiet out there... so...the best answer, whats happening there, is as follows:
"What's happening with the movie? NOTHING! Michael Cunningham who wrote "The Hours" wrote a screenplay for the movie entitled "Somebody to Love" which depicted one week out of Freddie's life. It sucked so bad that it didn't even make it through the voting committee for funding and such. It was so full of lies and made-up information and portrayed the band as a bunch of coke heads. This is the last information that I have received and it's about a year old. The story of Depp playing Freddie is 3 years old. All I know is that many people have sent in screenplays, Robert deNiro of Tribeca Films loved Freddie and would love to support a movie, and Johnny Depp would be perfect but he is not getting any younger. Hopefully they will have something out by Freddie's 65th birthday. Now that Queen and Paul Rodgers is no more, perhaps Brian and Roger will refocus on this endeavor."
