Can you guys recommend some Queen-influenced metal bands to me? I've been listening to a lot of metal lately and the only recent original band in the meta-genre I found was Tyr. They're a Faroese folk metal band with progressive influences. After listening to Rainbow's "Rising" album, I thought it would be a fresh change to check out some metal bands that are reminiscent of Queen in some way.
So blow away. And please, no metalcore, gothic metal or black metal- they fucking suck!
Don't recommend the following bands because I already know of them:
Symphony X, Blind Guardian and Kamelot(Roy Khan is easily best singer of the 2000s).
In respect to Queen's thrash experimentation (Stone Cold Crazy), I would recommend Metallica. Metallica have cited Queen as a huge influence. Metallica played at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, they recorded a cover of Stone Cold Crazy, and included Queen in their new video game Guitar Hero: Metallica. I'm not implying, however, that their music is a lot like Queen -- just in one characteristic.

lol...even King Diamond sounds more like Queen than Metallica. Great band in their old days(pre-1988)...but I think Megadeth has more of a Queen influence than Metallica. Mustaine and Marty Friedman listened to Queen in their youth and it kinda shows in some of their songs. Friedman played guitar on some Queen tribute album- the name escapes me.
I found this really awesome band called Between the Buried and Me. I feel a little ashamed of liking them sometimes because there's a great chance they're metalcore, which I fucking hate to death! Especially gay bands like As I Lay Dying(ESPECIALLY THIS GAY BAND), All That Remains, Lamb Of God(another stinker), August Burns Red, Trivium, Job For A Cowboy(uber-gay). From the few songs I've heard, they seem progressive death metal. I can safely say that if Queen were a death metal band, it would have been Between the Buried and Me. Seriously, check it out if you don't mind harsh vocals.
Still looking for more metal bands with a Queen influence. Found many that have "claimed" to be influenced but it's barely apparent in their music(Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium and a plethora of gay metalcore bands).
Dethklok also has a strong Queen influence. Brendon Small even acknowledges it on the liner notes for "The Dethalbum". Dethklok's a fictional death metal band in the show Dethklok Metalocalypse, which is epicly awesome. Brendon Small said in an interview that he tries to imitate Brian May's guitar tone and also based one of the characters on Metalocalypse very loosely on Roger(Pickles).
