please im having so much trouble deciding which of Brian's solo albums is better Back To The Light or Another World. see Back To The Light has Too Much Love Will Kill You and Love Token but Another World has China Belle and The Guv'nor. please tell me which you like better and why!
It's funny because of two songs you mentioned from Another World I consider to be some of the weaker tracks. There's some good songs on both albums but for me Back To The Light is probably the more complete.
I don't like either album on the whole. Back To The Light was dated before it was even released, although I absolutely love the songs "Resurrection" and "Nothing But Blue". The rest is just too ... weak, I dunno.
Another World is where he does the best performances I think. His voice is great (I STILL don't know why Queen didn't just tour using him and Roger, I really don't...) and the cover of "Slow Down" is a knockout. I don't really like most of the songs on the album though. Still, stellar playing by all.
Back to the Light seems to be a more cohesive product to me. All the songs fit together but the overall sound is thin. (The Works Syndrome).
Another World is great. The songs are great, even the covers and it really sounds warm and modern.
Another World seems to not flow as an album, and is more a collection of tracks, some better than others. Back To The Light seems to flow better as a complete piece - although strangely the album was compiled in the same way, with ideas and performances stretching across several years - and contains to my mind the better stand out tracks Too Much Love Will Kill You, Last Horizon and Back To The Light

I agree about both albums being not so good, but I can't agree with his "voice is great" comment, lol. Well, he does sing better on another world. The title track his voice sounds nice.
I don't have Another World, although i want to get it. I love Ressurection though, one of my favourite songs ever. I also love Last Horizon; acually I like most of them although I rarely listen to Nothing But Blue and one other the name of which I can't remember. And Rollin Over and Let Your Heart Rule Your Head are so happy.
Back to the Light by a long way for me!
I really like the grandness of The Dark, and then I like the title track itself.
Too Much Love, Resurrection, Last Horizon, Nothin' But Blue.... even Let Your Heart.... all quality tracks, adding up to a good album. (although I really dont think I like Love Token - that cheesy mid-section with the shouting, particularly on the extended/live version is hooooooorrible, and I dont know what Brian was thinking!)
I like parts of Another World, including the title track, and I really like Business, as I think it comes from the heart. Why Dont We Try Again is alright too, and some of the guitar on China Belle is kinda cool. Aside from that I think the structure of the album is loosely based on BTTL - things like On My Way Up just seems like a carbon copy of Let Your Heart... for me. Its all a bit inconsistent, and theres too many covers - all of which are competent, but a bit pointless.
Just not as good as BTTL at the end of the day songwise.

I totally agree with Zebonka here; Brian's voice in Another World represents his finest moment as vocalist, imo. I remember being totally blown away when I listened to the album for the first time and thinking "wow ! the man has really improved !!"
Back to topic ... BTTL is a more cohesive album, but I've always enjoyed Another World more.
BTTL has fantastic songs such as Resurrection, TMLWKL, Last Horizon, Nothin'But Blue, etc ... but yes, once again as Zebonka said, the album sounds dated to me, now.
The sound in Another World, on the other hand, is still fantastic and full of power. Cozy's drums in "Business" are really something !! And I always saw China Belle as a Queen song, easily picturing Freddie performing it in the fun-rocker style he delivered in songs like I Go Crazy, She Blows Hot And Cold, etc etc.
I love the lightness (and guitar solo!) in On My Way Up; the intensity and feeling in Why Don't We Try Again, Wilderness and Another World; the wild guitars and crazy drums (many thanks, Mr. Hawkins!) in Cyborg and also love the three covers included (yeah, Zebonka, Slow Down, too!!)
I like Another World as a whole (much more diverse) and Back To The Light as better songs (not all)
About BTTL sounding dated, I disagree. I don't think music ever sounds dated, because music is music, no age, date, popularity, ect. changes how much you enjoy certain music (or it shouldn't anyways)
