... the very end of a long voyage. "Quote" Brian May Rio 29th November 2008 - am I the only one on here that's feeling a bit depressed about the recent news item from Paul Rodgers? Don't mean to sound depressive but since 2005 having the chance of a Queen tour of sorts to look forward to and the continuing chance of NEW material for some reason easily took 20 years off me personally and gave me a sense of optimism. I totally love all of the back catalogue and the memories it brings back but the simple feeling that we still might have something more to look forward to made a big personal difference to me.
I can still recall attending 2008 with a lot of NEW fans all a lot younger than me picking up on the new material in a fantastically positive way - what now for these guys? A new door seemed to open and within a few short concerts it now appears to be over for good.
I can see the realistic side to the situation as well as the next Queen fan but it still leaves me more than a little empty inside wondering what happens next? A deafening silence probably. I really get the feeling talking to other Queen fans over the years that following Queen doesn't pan out in the same way as following other artists for some strange dynamic. Am I the only fan feeling a little empty at the moment?
I personally don't enjoy the appeal of tribute acts - although I'm sure they all have their hearts in the right place. I've never given the We Will Rock You show a go yet - maybe I should? Having Paul close the door on the guys makes me think back to the loss of Freddie again which isn't a good place to go. Apologies for the depressive rant but the thought of no more Brian and Roger or Queen live just isn't a pleasant thought at the moment.
Would be interested in hearing other fans comments.
What I find slightly strange is there is no comment from Brian and Roger (so far at least) regarding Paul's decision. Maybe they are just too busy. My hope is that they can work something out for the future.
As for the tribute acts, Im afraid Im with you Hitman. I have never thought of going to see one and probably never will to be honest. I dont mind seeing bands that maybe play one or two Queen songs as part of their own set but the thought of watching some guy wearing a false moustache and a yellow jacket backed with a guy wearing a curly haired wig does nothing for me.
I was wondering that too - why haven't Queen commented? I know they are the last people to release info about themselves, but it's kinda strange that they basically split up and didn't say anything. Usually major stuff like that would be in Brian's soapbox, even if Queen didn't officially comment on it. I haven't checked Queenonline, but its not in the Queen news section in brianmay.com, so obviously they haven't commented. Which is strange. They have a relatively big following, you'd think they'd want to back up Paul's comments from their point of view. It was bad enough hearing about it without only hearing it from Paul. Maybe the bank holiday weekend had something to do with it, but its kinda big news, I'm confused.
Also, I know Brian is busy and everything, but he's barely posting anymore, and when he does he sometimes doesn't seem like himself, has anyone else thought about it?
And yes, I am very, very sad. I've never seen them live as Queen, or Q+PR and I've never seen WWRY. Sometime, i really want to see the musical though, its meant to be really good.
I tend to agree the current situation has me very confused - not the usual way that these things tend to happen. Also agree that Brian's recent postings do seem a little random at times like he's keeping off topic on purpose. As per usual we'll just have to wait and see. Hope this isn't the end of the road. Too many lost opportunities if you ask me. Can the guys just walk away without any regrets?

It'll be interesting what if any comments Brian makes as the news item originates from his site. Not sure who edits the other content for Brian but maybe someone else is pushing the issue to get Brian to comment? As for tribute acts after coming across some items on Youtube they really make me wince. One performance if you can call it was Toyah Wilcox trying to do Queen a few years ago - link god did this make me reach for the bucket. Maybe if Toyah had gone for the moustache and yellow jacket it would have helped her?
Just checked Brian's site and no update for today [/img]

To be fair to Toyah, and I say this as a fan of hers as well, she wasnt the only one who was shit on that show. There was quite a number of them. Maybe if they all wore a false moustache and yellow jacket it might have saved them lol!!

This ITV show if I recall was a typical example of trying to get the wrong singers to sing all the wrong songs in the wrong key. I suppose its a case of putting like with like for example I can't ever imagine Paul Rodgers trying to tackle some of the finer elements of say Queen II but Paul singing Fat Bottom Girls works fine.
