Queen New York, NY, USA Madison Square Garden November 17, 1978 This is a merge of three audience sources to complete this classic show, first begun in 1999. With the recent discovery of a substantial upgrade of one of the three sources, this merge now consists almost purely of confirmed gen source material. * Source 1, taped by Rob Schoorl AUD > Master Cassette > Standalone CDR (1) > WAV (GoldWave pitch/speed correction) > FLAC level 8 transfer: Panasonic handheld cassette recorder > Denon cassette deck > Harman Kardon burner ** Source 2 - better EQ, although it is still distant AUD > Master Cassette > 1st Gen Cassette > CDR (1) > WAV (GoldWave pitch/speed correction) > FLAC level 8 *** Source 3 - Now I'm Here through It's Late are missing AUD > Master Cassette > 1st Gen Cassette > ? > FLAC level 8 > WAV (GoldWave pitch/speed correction) > FLAC level 8 **** Source 3 - an unconfirmed gen copy AUD > ? > FLAC level 8 > WAV (GoldWave pitch/speed correction) > FLAC level 8 Disc 1: 1) We Will Rock You (fast) */*** 2) Let Me Entertain You *** 3) Somebody To Love *** 4) If You Can't Beat Them *** 5) Death On Two Legs *** 6) Killer Queen *** 7) Bicycle Race *** 8) I'm In Love With My Car *** 9) Get Down Make Love *** 10) You're My Best Friend *** 11) Now I'm Here ** 12) Spread Your Wings ** 13) Dreamers Ball */** 14) Love Of My Life */** 15) '39 ** Disc 2: 1) It's Late ** 2) Brighton Rock **/***/**** 3) Fat Bottomed Girls *** 4) Keep Yourself Alive *** 5) Bohemian Rhapsody *** 6) Tie Your Mother Down *** 7) encore wait * 8) Sheer Heart Attack */*** 9) encore wait * 10) We Will Rock You *** 11) We Are The Champions *** 12) God Save The Queen ***/* Some instances of source 1 are not noted above, as it fills in gaps for source 2 where its taper paused between songs to save tape. Many thanks to Rob Schoorl, mikezep61, and YourValentine for the source material. Thanks also to Olivier Ruth and Jumeteor for providing material for the previous merge. link link link link link link link link please replace the .txt with this one, as it contains a slight error Convert to lossy only for your own (ab)use. It's otherwise recommended that you preserve the history in the best quality possible. Enjoy! |

Thanks Bob. Great share. I was born a bit too late to tape at that time. But hey, as soon as I had the opportunity to tape (video that is) some Queen related shows, I did. (you could have done the same in Canada dude...!) You don't like them? Pitty! I don't like the WWRY musical... We can't all have the same taste... Thanks again for this wonderful share of yours! |

Totally amazed by the work that has been done by you, Pittrek and all others on those multi-sourced recordings, that's a very nice idea to create the best version available for each recording, even if it's also interesting to have each different version too. Not that I would ever make a gross, sweeping generalisation but if you were only born in '94 then no wonder you don't care about converting to MP3. This is not meant as an insult or criticism but you've grown up in the age of the walkman/discman/md/mp3 player where all the focus is on getting your audio as quickly as possible, making it compact/portable and playing it on a device with a poor quality amp and a really horrible DAC. By the time such a device spits the results into your ears you may as well be listening to mp3 @ 64kbps! It's a shame really because before the introduction of the walkman there was some spectacular audio equipment out there and in most homes. In fact there still is but now they've priced it so outrageously that it's the sole preserve of the elitists. Nothing can match the quality of a decent hi-fi - remember building a setup from separates - each one from a different manufacturer to get best of breed? Giant, mongrel hi-fis that could reproduce frequency ranges most people will never hear on a modern system and with startling clarity. |

Zeppelin fans(I'm one altough I haven't been into Zeppelin lately, don't know why)are very very lucky that Millard taped all those shows. LA 21/6/77 is an unbelievable document of this legendary band. It's really fortunate that he saw all the LA shows because Zeppelin always played great concerts there and that one is really outstanding, I've also got the 19/6 show and the 21st Bonzo certainly wants to make up for that 19/6 performance:-) Plant sounds great too. There are many post 1973 shows where Plant is hoarse but 1977 was pretty good and this LA show I'm talking about is fantastic from him:-) Check it out, people. Sorry guys, got carried away! |

I'm listening to it right now and I must say VERY NICE WORK. However I must add some critics :) WWRY fast (and maybe some other tracks, I don't know yet ) has some ugly speed problems which ruin the final "image". I tried to fix them but very soon I understood why you decided to let it as it is :) I had to give up, but is somebody capable of fixing it ? It's a hell of a work, I know but if somebody manages it I'd be glad if you could share it :) BTW If you can't beat them sounds fantastic, does anybody know if more songs exist from this source ? |

Thank you for the merge ! Maybe I can make a little criticism, I can hear the thunderbolt intro is fading in (it comes from the third source) but we have the whole intro at least on Rob's recording and maybe (I don't have the second source so I can't confirm anything) on the second one. Which didn't you include it? |
The Real Wizard 22.04.2009 11:40 |
pittrek wrote: WWRY fast (and maybe some other tracks, I don't know yet ) has some ugly speed problems which ruin the final "image".As far as I remember, it's just that one track. I tried fixing the speed issues too, but to no avail. But I think it's still the lesser of the two evils to use source 3 than one of the inferior ones. little foetus wrote: Maybe I can make a little criticism, I can hear the thunderbolt intro is fading in (it comes from the third source) but we have the whole intro at least on Rob's recording and maybe (I don't have the second source so I can't confirm anything) on the second one.
