Any books related to Queen or Freddy Mercury?
| creamymashed 15.04.2009 16:18 |
My daughter (14) is doing her final on the band (yes, I raised her well). One of the requirements is that she reads a book on the subject. Does anyone know of one, it doesn't only have to be about them, just mentioned or a picture of the band is good enough. She will be getting most of her info online and bios. Any help would be appreciated! |

"My daughter (14) is doing her final on the band [...] One of the requirements is that she reads a book on the subject [...] it doesn't only have to be about them, just mentioned or a picture of the band is good enough." So much for the level of education... |

Re: Thomas Quin, Sir GH. creamymashed, don't pay much attention on those caustic comments. Queenzone is famous for some of its members who really do not worth even the fart of a dead snake. I am sure you raised your daughter well no matter what! I believe it will be interesting for her to read either "Queen in their own words", or "Freddie Mercury in his own words". The both books are an easy read (and not very big - I've read the first one within a day.) I agree that the editors may have taken some phrases out of the context but at least these phrases are not interpreted by someone else and your girl could add her own interpretation in her work. Something that I believe her professors will appreciate. Good luck to the kid and may her enjoy the artistry of this band as long as she can. |

There's a few underground books and magazines that would provide some answers not found in "His Own Words"... although YOU may have to purchase them. I would try Bang!: The Adventures of Freddy in New York City in the 80s. |

Back in my day, my dead snake parents taught me to do my research for school projects myself. My sincere apologies for being self-sufficient and indirectly encouraging other parents to consider it for their own children instead of sugar-coating the issue to your liking. |

You may be self-sufficient and thank God if it is so cause I am pretty sure no-one would stand you anyway! Plus that your parents seem to have missed to teach you to some manners along with writing your own homework. Obviously they too are reluctant to hang around you! You jump just over anyone on these boards offending them no matter who they are and no matter what they say... |

With all due respect, Sir GH is one of the last people to dish out unnecessary sarcasm. I think you should be jumping over TQ and me before you start accusing SG. A topic was started asking if there are any good books on Freddy Mercury to help my daughter write her term paper. Some serious questions need to be asked: 1) Why is DAD coming on here asking for help. Where is the student, who probably has a better understanding of the internet anyways, to ask for help? 2) Why is it so hard to spell Freddie's name correctly? Please note that on the top of this page and all pages on queenzone is a menu heading entitled "Freddie Mercury". It's right there. If you were sitting on the toilet it would bite you in the ass. 3) Why is a 14 year old girl writing a term paper on someone who had one of the most publicized gay sex life and subsequent death from AIDS and whom she never heard sing before his untimely demise? Perhaps Dad should let her listen to what SHE wants to listen to instead of forcing his music on her? 4) Isn't a Library or even Amazon Books a much better place to start looking for a book? 5) Why does a grown man have such a juvenile screen name? 6) Would you consider your 14 year old daughter "hot"? (This is merely to obtain what kind of parent you are. I'm assuming you're a lot like Ashley & Jessica Simpson's Dad. If I'm wrong, I apologize) 7) Would your 14 year old be a good babysitter for Gavyn? |

A_WintersTale wrote: a bunch of inane crap Your post hurled childish insults on the surface, but it exposed a much deeper truth - that you are part of a very large group of people who seem to live in a sugar-coated Hollywood-type world where taboos remain taboos, honesty is suppressed, and free-thinking minds are pushed aside in favour of the ones that blindly obey and perpetuate such conventions. >your parents seem to have missed to teach you to some manners Most behaviours referred to as "manners" are an excuse for authority figures to keep people below them (or rather, people that are below them only in their minds to fulfill their need to control to artificially inflate their existence) from being "subordinate," which essentially compromises their authority. To far too many people like yourself, expressing oneself beyond the status quo is equated with being impolite. It's a transparent tactic that most children see through, at least to some degree. It starts with "don't talk when adults are talking", later it's "don't talk back", and as an adult, the end result is a lack of self-confidence because they were rarely listened to in their formative years. Unless they come to understand this fully, the chain of control continues in the next generation. So please, don't throw the manners card my way. I got past that developmental and superficial stage a very long time ago. You are clearly the authority figure-type, and your wincing disapproval of someone stating these kinds of things categorically and truthfully couldn't be more apparent. Microwave's post was spot on. What kind of parent does his child's school projects for them, and how will that teach a child to become self-sufficient and understand responsibility? And I ask, what kind of people feel the need to look past that in the interest of "manners", only to attack those who expose the truth for what it is? In addition to that, attacking the person instead of the problem is a sign of problem solving skills in their infancy. I can only suggest that before you label me as being arrogant or something of the like, consider the possibility that self-confidence and self-realization are not to be equated with arrogance. People without self-confidence and self-realization label those with those qualities as arrogant because it's easier to do that than to do the necessary soul-searching and growing in order to become those kinds of people themselves. Ah yes, naturally I "do not worth even the fart of a dead snake". Much less Sir GH, who spends all his time on QZ doing nasty and offensive things such as raising philosophical questions and solving musical problems. The topic starter, by complete contrast, is a noble hero for doing his daughter's extraordinarily undemanding research and professing his deep and insightful experience with his favorite band, whose lead-singer's name he cannot spell. |
