Classic Rock magazine ran a poll to find the 50 Greatest Signers in Rock, and the winner was unsuprisingly Freddie Mercury. Second was a little bit more un-predictable with Paul Rodgers coming in ahead of Robert Plant.
Cool! Mr. Mercury deserves to rank among the very best in any list. I was quite surprised by how well he faired in the Rolling Stone's one - he was among the top ten, and the voting was done by very respectful and often very talented and good musicians from many different styles. It was great to see his work being recognized by so many different musicians.
And his singing is just part of his great body of work!
Congrats to Paul Rodgers as well. I don't give much, or any, thought to the question as to whether he's better than Plant or not, or whether Freddie was, for that matter. What I find most exciting is the fact that these guys are recognized as the amazing singers they are.
Their talent came across, they thrilled audiences all over the world and ended up commanding the admiration from other great fellow musicians, regardless of style or genre.
Congrats to this "power trio" and may their talent inspire many people to make or simply enjoy good music. :)
