Sorry, but I think this song is way over rated by fans on here. I actually think it was the weakest song on NOTW. Anyone agree? |

Ha Ha... must be the only Queen fan on earth who doesn't like it. Just think it's really boring and very flat. I don't think it would have had any commercial appeal as a single to be honest. IMO it's the weakest on NOTW, with the best being SHA, WATC, MMB. Even WNY was better. |

it,s late is a fantastic song.underrated and just passed by by many people.if it had been released as a single i feel it would have been a massive hit on the hard rock charts.it builds up so well it holds you till the end.thrashing guitars and drums to make your hair stand on end.freddie puts his complete soul in to it.the song is like sex...the slow build up,the smouldering bit in the middle just like teasing(ooooooo it,s been so long trying to work it out).then the almight climax,it,s all toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo late.perfect....give me it,s late anytime over any queen song.listen to it on headphones turned up very very very loud... |

well...this is a first ? it's late... could have worked and blended nice on ANATO to JAZZ. it's a 70's gem. i guess in the end , it's a question of taste or generation gap ?...or or or ...? for me, it's one of the best non-single song in the Queen catalogue. |

It's late=brilliant. NOTW is a pretty consistent album. 'M. blues' and 'it's late' are my two favs. Every song is good or great, but if I had to pick a least favorite?..I guess sleeping on the sidewalk or fight from the inside. Again, even those songs are solid. |
Band Forever 24.03.2009 06:50 |
'It's Late' one of Brian's best songs, The Record company did a messy edit with the single release in USA I believe. If Queen and the Record company could agree a sensible edit where all the three parts segue nicely it would sound brill even it were released today, but don't diss this song by putting it on a 'B' Side of a ambling average QPR Song, this song is off the Seismic Register - Great work on the Vocals by Freddie quite husky but a million times superior than Paul Rodgers. I like Galashiels will meet this buffoon at dawn for pistols to demand satisfaction just to finish off the job. |

It's Late ... rubbish ??? can't agree, dude the very first time I listened to this song many many years ago I thought: "woooooooooooooooooooooow ....!" And only great-great-great songs can generate such reaction. But of course that's the good thing about music, one song can generate different reactions depending on the listener ... but seeing most of the responses in this thread, I guess we can confirm the majority of fans here think it is no rubbish. Great meldoy, great vocal work, great guitar work. Beautiful song. |

"It's Late" is a great song. I love guitar in this song. Actually, I think it's a perfect example of why other artists performing Queen songs usually is a kiss of death. |

I've got to agree with the original poster. It's Late is not one of Brian's better songs. It is one of the better songs on NotW. But the whole album was one of their weaker early efforts. |

Kansas What weak album are you referring to. We Are The Champions We Will Rock You Two of the most universally known Rock Tunes. Spread Your Wings - Excellent - nice story love the guitar work. Sheer Heart Attack - Classic Live Favourite prefer Fred's vocals Get Down Make Love - Excellent Guitar work in this one even outside of the middle section. Who Needs You - Cool Song a song we can all relate to. Melancholy Blues- Light but a nice easy going tune. Sleeping On The Side Walk - Not my Cup of Tea, bluesy throwaway. Fight From The Inside - Would have preferred Fred's Vocals on this- nice heavy bass on this. Its Late - Superb!!! should have been a major International Hit without any bias on my part. |

It's Late must be easily among Queen's top 5 or 10 not only for me but for most fans around the world. Sadly the band put it aside after the NOWT tour forever (and kept playing the good but mediocre Get Down Make Love for three more years). |
Sheer Brass Neck 24.03.2009 22:03 |
It's Late was, is, and will always be a monster. Circus Magazine called it "the most moving three chord wonder since The Who", and said that Freddie sang it "like a mighty tree falling." Queen at the peak of their rock majesty, if you can listen to the vocals removed track that was once posted here and not be blown away by the energy and brilliant musicianship you are a better person than I. |

alright everyone pipe down, it's only a song. I give the original poster credit for not agreeing with everyone Just for the sake of it. like most of you do. "It's late" is no Bo Rhap, it's a typical rocker with loud guitars and drums. Lots of bands were doing that sort of thing in the 70's. rush, yes, elp, all were showing off, but how many bands were doing bo rhaps?...For me it's a great song, but queen do have better. The prophet song is better IMO. |

We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions were and still are WAY overplayed in America. Good songs sure, but I have heard them too many times at football games. Spread Your Wings - Yup, I agree. This is an excellent song, a nice diversion for John Sheer Heart Attack - Good song live. But there is a reason they left it off of the Sheer Heart Attack Album. It is just not a very good song, Niether are most of Tayler's songs. Get Down Make Love - Live it continued their experimentation that started with songs like Prophet Song and Brighton Rock. But really, the lyrics are just poor taste. Who needs you - A light flamenco song that is not as good as their earlier attempts at different styles like Good Old Fashioned Loverboy, Seaside Rendezvous or Bring Back Leroy Brown. Meloncholy Blues - Another song with Freddie solo at the piano. Can't hold a candle to Love of My Life or You Take My Breath Away. Sleeping on the Sidewalk - Nice little story, but no substance. Fight From The Inside - Whaa? One of the worst songs they ever put on vinyl. It's Late - Sure it's got Brian's guitar on it. But it just seems rushed with not a whole lot of thought put into it. Brian wrote much better songs before and after this one. Their best albums were the first 5. They were spotty for the rest of their career. |

Well, I agree that the first five are their best, and among the best in rock history. and I agree that roger's writng is mostly spotty, but I have NOTW at the 6th spot after those first five classics. it's a battle between NOTW and Innuendo for me. The game is also great, but if you think queen were spotty after ADATR that's your opinion that I don't agree with. |

Like I've mentioned before : The It's Late live-version sounds much better. It's just an album-track wich sounds quite rushed and pretty simple for Queen's standards ... I don't understand why it's such a long track either - aside from the outro it sounds pretty basic IMHO of course .... |

I mean to each their own as it's all subjective, but other than the energy, the live version is nowhere near the original. Freddie doesn't sing it as well, the BV's pale in comparison, and Brian's solo is a shadow of the album track. You don't understand why it's such a long track? What's to understand? It's a song that needs every second to tell the story. Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites The Dust are pretty basic too. It's how songs move you, not how the band plays them, and it's not basic in the sense that the middle section swings the song from a melodic major key rocker into something darker when the F#m section comes in. It takes the hopefully optimistic lyrical tone of the first few verses ("It's Late, but not too late") to an unhappy ending ("It's Late, it's all too late.") End of song, end of relationship. Music matching lyrics in a superb manner. Throw in a tapping solo six months before EVH arrived on the scene, and there is rock perfection. Or, a pretty basic track. |

I agree that It's Late is the worst song on the album. I also think that March of the Black Queen is the worst song on QII, Killer Queen is the worst song on SHA, and Bo Rap is the worst song on ANATO. Why did Queen continue to put such rubbish on their records? |

If you can't accept this .... how much harder can you make it to convince me you don't like Delilah for example while I think it's a great song - opinion it's called ! |

Everybody gets on fred for writing a song about his cat, but to me roger writing a song about his stupid car is much worse. Another opinion many would disagree with, but it's my opinion. |

Freddie writing a song about his beloved cat (delilah), isn't as bad as roger writing a song about a car (I'm in love with my car). What part of this post don't you understand? |

In terms of subject matter, Delilah is more likeable than I'm In Love With My Car. Performance wise though, there is no contest. Brian's really the only thing worth listening to in either song anyway. |

Musically speaking. I agree with you both (and with whoever else who's said the same). I think Get Down Make Love is excellent. |

But I don't think it's one of my favourite Queen or Brian songs (I can think of a few by him that I like better). But maybe I will have a clearer opinion about it when I've listened to Queen for a loner time than I have... |
thequeen 28.03.2009 23:26 |
Alright ... sounds good , your opinion that is .... IMO the song It's Late isn't total rubbish but not a "killer" either. So yeah , it's a bit nonsense to declare it as Queen's masterpiece IMHO ! |
Amazon 30.03.2009 10:51 |
News of the World has always been IMO one of Queen's most consistent albums. There isn't really any song which I would describe as ordinary (even Sheer Heart Attack, my least favourite song, is still okay). It's Late is no exception. I really enjoy it, although it's my least favourite May song on the album; which isn't saying much considering that IMO We Will Rock You and Sleeping on the Sidewalk are absolute classics! Anyway, I like It's Late alot. |

It's Late is fatty's favorite song... I remember he wrote that once, I thought it was interesting. |
mrs.may39 05.05.2009 22:11 |
oh i absoulutly love It's Late and really actually think its a very under rated song..unlike some others that Brian has written like of course WWRY. i mean do you really think people talk about It's Late more then they do with WWRY? no didnt think so. even though i love both songs dearly, you all know what im sayin.....right? |
A_WintersTale 06.05.2009 05:07 |
This is my least liked song from Queen's entire catalogue. I'm definitely with you on this! |
Holly2003 06.05.2009 09:00 |
Personal taste aside ... okay I can't put personal taste aside, why don't you like It's Late? It's an almost perfect rock song and imo third only to BoRap and Good Company as Queen's best song. |

Holly2003 wrote: Personal taste aside ... okay I can't put personal taste aside, why don't you like It's Late? It's an almost perfect rock song That's my question too. It's definetely not filler, and I don't get what their problems are with it. Lately it's been my favorite from News Of The World. |

Ye of funny posts and great taste - how can you not give Rog credit for signing his tits off in I'm In Love With My Car? You were drunk when you posted this, weren't you? |

News Of The World was one of the first Queen albums I started listening to when it first came out as my brother bought the album. It's probably my second favourite album after A Day At The Races which I think is probably their best. It's Late to me is one of the standout tracks on NOTW and one of my favourites. Love it! :) |
