I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm wicked excited! Neil is one of my heroes, and he has never disappointed me. He's one of the best songwriters out there and has been for the better part of the last 45 or so years. Here is the (cheesy) video for his new single Johnny Magic. The album is called Fork in the Road. Roll on, April! :-D

Yes, yes and yes. I couldn't agree more. I agree with every single word there: he's the real deal. The guy has been making awesome music for so long. He never disappointed me either and he's a brilliant, magnificent songwriter.
I watched him live years ago, in Rock in Rio III, when I shouldn't even be there, by the way. But sweet talking the security, getting on a friend's back to see him and shout like a mad while he played an absolutely thrilling concert late into the night, when people had already left the place, was just a terrific experience.
My father played his recordings a lot at home and I grew up listening to his music. As soon as I entered the music school, I was a kid, I remember one of my teachers preaching against his music for minutes when I brought up his name. lol The guys there managed to kill any curiosity of mine for some good deal of time, but as I listened to "Harvest", and especially such beautiful songs as "There's a world" and "Old Man", I felt that there was something musically relevant and important I was not being taught.

Neil Young is genuine, a great songwriter, great artist for so many years. I hope you enjoy the concert, Dan.
Does anyone else think that "Helpless" and "Knockin On Heaven's Door" are exactly the same song?
Yes, I think so. The overall harmonic structure and, especially, the melodic line which leads up to the chorus and underlines it.
It's like a different way of representing the same song, just changing some parts, here and there.
Pretty much like in Maths. 0,9999...=1, 1, 1/1, 2/2, 4/4 are all ways of representing the same number.
It's a tribute, as far as I know. Neil Young is as influenced by Dylan as any other artist I can think of. The lyrics from his early career are very dylanesque.

For the most part it does (Yara explains it far better than I have done). Its the same as Eric Clapton's "Let It Grow" has the same chord structure in the verses as Led Zep's "Stairway To Heaven" intro. The only difference is Eric's song is in the key of Bm as opposed to Led Zep's Key of Am.
Though I'm not sure which song came first. I always thought it was a tribute to Dylan, but thinking about it, Neil Young performed Helpless back in the late 60's already, so...I don't know.
Yes, Helpless was first, it was on the "Deja Vu" Album, 1970.
Thanks for the link to the Clapton song but the similarity is not that obvious to me - just the guitar parts while "Helpless" and "Knockin.." sound the same for me - the vocals, too.
