what do you think what would be like if remaining queen members joined forces with geoff tate (queensryche) in let's say '92? queensryche were pretty popular then and queen were huge, freddie's death was still new and they were a lot in the papers. the tour would have been huge, stadium tour probably. why have i open this topic? because a lot of you complain about PR and how he can't hit those high notes freddie could so i thought of geoff tate who certainly would hit all those high notes and has a four octave range. the guy can really sing! and maybe if they'd do an album it would be more rock progressive (sort of like innuendo song which by the way queensryche covered) and less poppy. or combination of that, innuendo is great collection of hard rock and more poppy rock songs with great big vocals and epic sound, it has all the queen trademarks. it would certainly be interesting to see direction they would take with tate as a singer who certainly would write some songs. imo i'm glad they have paul, i like him better with Q but what do you think what would be like with tate?
Geoff Tate is no doubt a great singer and I'm a big fan of Queensryche. But he wouldn't mesh well with Queen...he has range but his voice isn't euphonic enough, not to mention the clash of musical styles. Bruce Dickinson is the only metal vocalist whose voice might've suited Queen, but the best man to replace Freddie would've been George Michael. I'm not exactly a big fan of WHAM! or his solo career but his voice is similar to Freddie's in some way.
george michael is grea pop singer and would be good fit for poppier queen songs like CLTCL , radio ga ga, AOBTD and of course gospel flavoured somebody to love. but i really can't imagine him singing heavier songs like i want it all, tie your mother down (which paul is very good at), stone cold crazy, hammer to fall... tate would certainly be better at those songs than GM. and he would be good at ballads and gentle stuff, over the weekend i watched queensryche mtv unplugged (bootleg dvd) and he is really good with ballads like lady wore black, silent lucidity and i will remember. so my vote goes to tate rather than GM cos he can sing heavy stuff and ballads as well
NO. I don't like Queensryche. It wouldn't work...Gary Cherone would do a better job w/ the guys than Geoff Tate. It is kind of a neat idea though. But I'm personally not that keen on it.
