Maybe this was discussed before, escuse me. But I have watched several times stuff like Rare Live, Champions of the world and Magic Years and these guys really suck. I mean, they always have so much mistakes with dates, Rare Live with the dates, the retrospective sequency in the begining of Champios of the world, the interviews in black and white from COTW which say "1973", but they are from 1977, and many more). I don't understand too much about Cinema or documentaries or whatever you called it (sorry for my english too), but I can realise that these guys are not at the level of a band like Queen. In my opinion, the only good thing they've done is the "I'm going slightly mad" video. What do you think?? |
Dane 04.02.2009 10:41 |
Suck they do... The official filmed videos are pretty ok, but only due to Queen being there. All that edited crap is terrible and lacks in any creativeness. I could do better in one evening (having access to the original videos). ow well, they still have a chance to redeem themselves by making a nice video for the upcoming DVD releases. |
john bodega 04.02.2009 11:13 |

Many times I cringe watching they way how they edit some of the videos. I few weeks ago I was watching 'The Untold Story' and there's so much cheesy stuff in there, which is a shame because it should be an insightful documentary. I rolled my eyes when they had those shots of India when Freddie was at Boarding School in Bombay, and they were playing 'Mustapha' in the background music. |

Well the best Queen-related documentaries are done always by somebody else (Killer Queen , Classic Albums ...) But to be fair - you must realize that Queen had terrible mess in their archives, a lot of unlabelled material. That's why they employed an Archivist |

I absolutely agree Bo Alex..I never understood how "The torpedo twins" could last so many time with Queen...I mean...they are total disaster as professionals...How Could Brian -being so perfectionist- let them keep on working on Queen related material??'...Another mistery.... |

Yeah. Kinda wish I didn't spend as much on my "Rare Live" & "Queen Rocks" Laserdiscs.....I don't think it was worth the near $100-ish US I spent on the both of them at the time, in hind sight. Should have been able to pay less than half that much, but oh well. Maybe they had something implemented in their business dealings that ensured they would do a lot of work with Queen over time...who knows. To be fair, they've been getting a *bit* more better lately. I was watching the bonus Hungary backstage documentary DVD (bonus with SLIJ), and I actually enjoyed it, which is saying something. I also agree otherwise with the person who said the only thing they did right was the IGSM video (I think One Vision was pretty good too!) |

I agree 100%. They are horrible. Geez, I remember saying this a few years back and I almost got my head cut off.. |
podders 04.02.2009 18:05 |
yeah, they have run into all sorts of difficulties recently and have closed down Do-Ro productions. I believe they were really living the high life in Germany and their company went into liquidation owing quite a bit of cash. Apparently they have relaunched as something new but most bands that they used to work with now steer well clear. |
Bo Alex 04.02.2009 18:06 |
I see a lot of people really dislike their works. They always did the same kind of compilation video, in the style of The Show must go on video. (including some image that in my opinion doesn't work with the song. I really hate the end part where appears Freddie from IWTB closing the door): Queen rocks (all the videos with the same idea), Too much love will kill you and many more. Queen deserves something better. |

Queen do make some questionable hiring decisions ... The Shefields, Prenter, Beach, Brooks, Gray, DoRo ... etc |
redspecialusa 04.02.2009 21:10 |
I don't think hiring Greg Brooks was a questionable move...just because he won't listen to you doesn't mean his hiring was 'questionable.' Even though we've paid his salary, we aren't the ones signing the pay cheques. I think he's done a fine job as the archivist. Jim Beach however is another story. I don't know that I really have anything bad to say about the Torpedo Twins, I think they did as best as they could with what they had too. Some things I wish they had done better...but I like the videos that they did, and they worked well with the band too. |

Greg Brooks actually really does his job well, despite how he comes across otherwise in his online persona here. He is very dedicated, and the few times I've chatted with him on the phone so far, I could always tell how passionate he was about his work. He's always a joy to talk to, and a hell of a lot nicer than some people here would expect! ( The unfortunate thing, as people ARE finally starting to acknowledge belatedly, is that Greg however doesn't always get his way with how the releases are handled (Singles Boxset, etc.). His ideas for that boxset VS QP's end product were very polar, with QP obviously being the worse design. Crying shame really. |

Yes, everything they does sucks. Rare Live is an abomination and is best watched lying down with headache pills. It is such a shame given the potential that's there. I think now when you look at a band like Rush, visually since about 1990 they have people on board who understand and have actually given the band a new lease of life. Don't know Greg Brooks personally but I have always been impressed by him and know that he has the best intentions at heart. I just wish we could see some kind of advancement on the holy grail that is "THE" boxset.....! |

Maybe this was discussed before, excuse me. BO ALEX SUCKS!!!!! He's complaining about "so much mistakes", so let's examine his original post: SENTENCE #1: Maybe this was discussed before, escuse me. Not bad, only you mispelled "escuse" and we do NOT even have a complete sentence. SENTENCE #2: But I have watched several times stuff like Rare Live, Champions of the world and Magic Years and these guys really suck. Perhaps you meant to say "But several times I have watched stuff like" but you didn't know how to put it into proper order. Also, you list 3 titles but only put a comma after the first one. There should be a comma after the word "world", which should also be capitalized. Finally you used a conjunction (AND) to join to complete thoughts, which also requires a comma after the word "Years". Only four mistakes in this sentence. SENTENCE #3:I mean, they always have so much mistakes with dates, Rare Live with the dates, the retrospective sequency in the begining of Champios of the world, the interviews in black and white from COTW which say "1973", but they are from 1977, and many more). Holy crap. Well the most noticeable error is the fact that you have closed parenthesis without opening them. Plus, "they always have so much mistakes"... you could say that about your post, kinda. You spelled "Champios". Is that a new Queen breakfast cereal? You put a comma after "I mean" for no apparent reason. SENTENCE #4: I don't understand too much about Cinema or documentaries or whatever you called it (sorry for my english too), but I can realise that these guys are not at the level of a band like Queen. I didn't call it anything, but you insist I did. You went to past tense (called) and then back to present tense in the same sentence (can realise). As far as I know, Queen has never filmed a documentary, Cinema, or whatever you called it... so No, they are not at the same level at all. SENTENCE #4: In my opinion, the only good thing they've done is the "I'm going slightly mad" video. Going Slightly Mad needs to be capitalized. SENTENCE #5: What do you think?? I think that you shouldn't be complaining about people making mistakes. |

Okay guys. I'm English. You may know of us. We conquered the world and made sure that everyone else could speak our language so we didn't have to learn theirs! I can't speak a word of any language except French (and even that's a struggle), so when I come on this forum and write postings and private messages to other fans whose first language ISN'T English and get replies back that I understand, it amazes me. I may occasionally have a little laugh at how some of it is written (there have been some uncomprehensible posts!), but at the end of the day, you people speak my language and I do NOT speak yours. By all means, correct people's written English if the intent is to help them improve, but don't slag them off. Respect to everyone here that isn't English but writes in English, regardless of whether it is perfect or not, and "Thank You" for making life easy for this lazy Englishman! As already stated, I'm Going Slightly Mad was fun and creative. I feel this should have been our Freddie's last video instead of TATDOOL. He had enough make-up on to hide behind, unlike TATDOOL where he still looks terrible inspite of the make-up artist's best efforts and the B&W video. The whole video has a gloomy feel, not like Freddie would have wanted. IGSM has a good mix of colour and B&W which could have been used to our Freddie's advantage. To Doro's credit, they managed to extract what IMO is the most entertaining interview given by our Freddie - the Musical Prostitute interview in GVH2. But then I guess we can put that down to our Freddie being in a particualrly good mood on that occasion, and maybe a bit high :-) The Torpedo Twins represented Queen so it was their duty to get the facts right. In any case, I (like Bo) am just giving my opinion (for free) while they intended to entertain us and got paid for it. Bowie's response to Rudi in our Freddie's tribute concert documentary was funny. Infact I liked this documentary better than the actual concert even :-D I have tried to be careful with my english (but please do correct me if I have made any errors). |

As far as I'm aware, the documentary has been well-received by Ramones fans but has also obviously reached a wider audience if a non-fan like me is watching it. I knew about it by word of mouth from another casual listener. Also, it isn't badly edited, as all DoRo documentraies and concerts are. For example, the people that are interviewed are allowed appropriate screen time, and there aren't the endless quick edits to give the illusion of 'excitement' (yawn), which is DoRo's main technique. |

Go ahead, Mr. Wiki.... knock yourself out. But still, you all (mostly) think these guys "suck" because THEY didn't get their facts straight. Hmm. Did any members of Queen have the final say in Queen Rare Live? Or was it put together, packaged, and released and only then didn Brian May see it and say.. "Uh, Rudi, you got the date wrong?" How come they "suck" but the quality control division of QPL draws no blame for the only reason half of you are complaining about? Personally, I liked The Magic Years videos... I really did. No, I wasn't watching them with my French Film class and professor and then commenting on shoddy camera work afterwards like so many of you seem to have been. Now where is the thread that wants to baste whoever was responsible for putting out the Made In Heaven videos? Would that be a much better use of a flame thrower? |

Interesting how his English vastly improved over the course of this thread. Did he magically find the spell check button, which really wasn't that difficult to use? 2. Well then, you've never been anywhere near a Spanish speaking culture. They most certainly "act superior", to the point of faking the ability to interpret Spanish, or speaking to each other in Spanish thinking the person present is not aware. It's very common in a workplace that employs a large number of Spanish or Oriental employees. Family is about the most important thing in Spanish culture, and if you are not part of that family, nothing you can do will ever make you truly part. 3. A "tool" is someone who usually has nothing to offer and is easily sniffed out. Usually they are open and critical about things to the point of hipocrisy... such as ranting about getting facts straight in a film and then spelling the title of that film wrong. A "tool" can also be one so easily persuaded by another "tool". Example: Brian thought Freddie's album cover design was ok, but he really looked like a tool when he spelled the band "QUEN" |

M'wave responded to me: "Funny you added "BEN ELTON" in your list of great two first-name people. Proving that you are a tool. The Prosecution rests. (By the way, you live in the US. It's "Defense" not "Defence". Man, we could go on and on about this, huh?) Perhaps you need a better Defence Atternee? I also noticed you included Roosevelt and Lincoln in your list. What 'hood' do you live in, bro? " Hope you had a good week, Mr Appliance. A few comments.... Let's see.......Ben Elton, Elton John (Queen references, sir). Thus my spelling of 'defence'. btw, does it really matter? The 'hood' statement: are you a bigot and/or racist, sir? The individuals I referenced were pro football players and college graduates, one from the Apple state, with a 4.0 GPA in medicine. Can you lay claim to anything similar? Oh, let's continue on with two first name people: Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor Am I a tool for listing those names? Are they tools as well? If so, why do you bother with this list? Moving on, you made a remark to the original poster: "You're so @#$! that you can't even use the spellcheck feature. I can. It's really easy. You just click the button that has a checkmark with 'abc' written above it" Maybe you should change your handle to " @#$! " , since you are so " @#$! " that you could not spell check 'hypocricy'. Shame on you for butchering your main language. If I made a mistake in this post, and did not click 'abc'..........whoop-te-effing-do. Finally, my response to the original poster........, I think the DoRo Twins truly suxx as well. Oops, I misspelled 'sucks'. Knot shur bout 'whoopteedue' as well. Hope thoz hoo red this still understude mi coment, and due knot crusiphie mee two seveerelee for my mistaick. Have a good week. Can't wait to see the hate inspired, narrow-minded response. My problem with DoRo is that they became lazy fast, reusing segments lifted from "Magic Years" etc and dropping them into later docos as opposed to going back to the original source material. I don't know how many times I've seen Sydney '85 intercut with the audience at Knebworth '86. "Rare Live" is a mess. |

[/img] Well, here in The Netherlands we get english, french and deutch at school, and all the english/american programs here aren't dubbed, like they do in Germany or Italy (and other countries I believe). And I think it's pretty hard to find your way on the internet when you can't read or understand english, it's the main language online. |
Sebastian 26.02.2009 07:42 |
Regarding the 'hypocrisy' of criticising mistakes while making mistakes: You don't have to be perfect or to be able to top what you're commenting on. Or do you think only filmmakers are entitled to say 'I didn't like that movie'? Only published authors can say 'that's not a good book'? Only newspaper owners can say 'that tabloid's pants'? Regarding the whole 'my arse you're that old' thing: That's quite an unfair remark. There are loads of immature people who were alive by the time of Hurst's perfect hat-trick, and there are loads of reasonably stand-up teenagers. Regarding the 'foreign-language speakers effort' appreciation: This isn't the Special Olympics - and I do agree that people without enough proficiency in English can benefit from a spellchecker or even the swiftness of Wiki-sites (a German-speaking person who doesn't know how to say Partitur in English can look it up in Wikipedia and then click the English link, simple as that). But I also happen to agree that it's rather cheap to ridicule someone because of missing commas or the lack (or superfluous use) of a parenthesis. Regarding the whole 'those documentaries aren't made for die-hards' comment: While it's true, think about something: if they've got time to get facts wrong (e.g. claiming the B/W Bob Harris interviews come from '73), they've also got time to get them right (you don't need to spend a year or a thousand quid to change a digit). Also, all 'trivia gurus' began by being 'common viewers/listeners/researchers' one day, so why not having the information right from the beginning? That's my complaint about, say, magazine articles about 'Bo Rhap' claiming it was recorded on 16-track tape - it's not hard to get that fact right (you only need to google 'Bohemian Rhapsody multitracks' and not only you realise they're 24, but you also get hold of them), and it's not hard to change '16' by '24'. But they don't bother spending ten seconds on a simple 'let's confirm whether this is right or not'. And it's not a die-hard detail anyway. |

john bodega 26.02.2009 11:56 |

"have sat around for over a week waiting for me to say hello - and probably done so in the desperate hope that you've annoyed me... ?" As if... it took me 14 mins after creating this username you sad fuck! (Get a fucking job.) Check the other threads. And remember... at what point have I approached you about anything? I replied to Microwave after he took a dig at someone for not writing in proper English... you then took a swipe at me for doing this... what for? Could you point out any other time I've showed Trollish behaviour here at QZ? I've only had 20 odd posts and 2 of them have been to take part in this pointless argument which you started above. Has it really wound you up that much? Cos I would have thought it wasn't that big of a deal to be honest. I mean, you said it yourself, you just like to harmlessly "poke fun at people"... so why even bother when someone does the same to you? You enjoy these arguments I think... that's why you "poke fun"... you know someone will end up arguing with you. Then again, after 8000 posts, talking about Queen must be really boring? But wait, SirGH, pittrek, YV etc... they have tons of posts but they don't get involved with these silly little arguments every post? They actually seem to enjoy talking about Queen still. You have a cheek to say "anonymous", because people must know by now that you've got nothing else to say here at QZ apart from trying to mock people, or shock them or get dragged into stupid arguments like this... they MUST just see your name pop up in a thread and jump onto the next reply cos you've got nothing of interest to say anymore (involving Queen that is). You're either really pig-headed or really insecure if you can't see how pathetic you come across. You're right, I did pick your username for a reason... cos I knew you couldn't help but react to it like this. It took you 23 posts! I poked a little fun at you... and see how you reacted. So don't bullshit by saying you just harmlessly poke fun at people and they take it either too serious or the wrong way, because you've just reacted in the exact same way. So fuck off... maybe you've "overstayed your welcome" you stubborn twat. PS... can't believe you actually provided a LINK to try justify how funny people think you are... But I do follow one basic rule : Never ruin a thread that wasn't ruined before I got there. So what if another "Where's John Deacon now?" or "What happened to Jim Hutton" thread goes to the shitter? Hullo McFly, it was already there before it was started! Could you point out any other time I've showed Trollish behaviour here at QZ?Your display name, sirrah!! You have a cheek to say "anonymous", because people must know by now that you've got nothing else to say here at QZ apart from trying to mock people, or shock them or get dragged into stupid arguments like this...I demand empirical research. Case in point... anyone remember the Queen fan-fiction thread??? COME ON!!! I poked a little fun at you... and see how you reacted. So don't bullshit by saying you just harmlessly poke fun at people and they take it either too serious or the wrong way, because you've just reacted in the exact same way. Look, I can't see you while you're typing, I don't know what mood you're in or how seriously you take all of this. I will give you the advantage in this; I really, honestly, hand-on-the-Bible don't care that you're using my display name to get on my nerves. You have my blessing, and if I ever get bored of it in the future you can tell me that you have my written permission to keep going, 'so there'. PS... can't believe you actually provided a LINK to try justify how funny people think you are... Truth needs no defence, fair enough. I suppose I could've just said 'oh but people liked it', but I had the links handy and I like to back up what I'm saying, some of the time... Zebonka's Tiny Ding-a-ling wrote: Listen, I agree this is silly... I've probably overreacted a bit, but you must realise it's not really fair for you to decide which threads deserve mocking and which don't.That's basically true, but ... gosh darn it, it's very hard sometimes. It basically comes down to my having formed bad habits over the years. I would barge into threads that were genuinely bizarre (ie. someone asserting that Freddie Mercury was the only rockstar with a sense of rhythm - EVER) and give them a good verbal bashing. I suppose, as time goes by and I get more cynical, more threads seem to look decidedly silly or familiar. It is, I admit, something I do a mite too often, but it's an exaggeration to say 'always'. Or, on the flipside, to say that I never contribute to Queen related discussions. I like Queen, that's why I'm here (believe it or not!). You've got to remember that there are also some younger fans, or newer fans who like to chat about the topics you have deemed deserve mocking.Yeah. If I have a failing it is that I tend to operate by my own rules on these forum places... I basically figure, if someone has a problem, they'll say so (as you have!). It wouldn't be more than a week ago that I had someone called Flush_Gurdun having a go at me - big whoop. I pissed them off, they complained and tried to insult me; we're square as far as I'm concerned. If he still has a problem, it's his, not mine. Vice versa. In instances where someone is genuinely offended and handles it in a gracious or mature manner (or contacts me privately, as has happened in the past) I have no problems apologising and trying to clarify things. This has happened before; I will spare you examples, though... heh. If someone wants to act like a dick, then a dicky attitude really all I can offer to them in return... one has to take everything on this site with a grain of salt. You never ever know if it's just someone pulling your chain. Some folk enjoy posting seriously in some less serious subjects, but that's up to them surely? I just think that more people might start getting involved here if they weren't worried that they were going to be made fun of... no matter how harmlessly that fun is meant.Well it's not often that I launch into new users. In fact I'm usually very well behaved in "Hello I'm new here" threads. I remember quite clearly what it was like coming to this forum in.... err..... 2004. Ish. I've been on the receiving end of QZ insanity, believe you me. You actually can be quite funny, but you've been here for a long while like many others, what topics did you get involved with when you first came here? Oh, the predictable stuff... first I came here because I wanted to download "The Story of Bohemian Rhapsody". Then I wanted to know what order the songs on "Made in Heaven" were recorded in. The obvious questions, though I don't think I've ever asked where Jim Hutton or John Deacon are... In any event, I've had a raft of misunderstandings and tussles on this forum, some of which were resolved quite amicably (in private, usually). To me these arguments aren't much more than verbal jousting - and if any lasting harm is done, I'm sorry about that. But you know, people mock my heroes too! I could choose to get annoyed about Pete Townshend kiddie porn jokes, but frankly I don't have the energy. Fuck 'em, is what I say; and to anyone who does not like Zebonka12, I wish you'd say the same thing and move on. Life's too short! Take care all. |

Don't try to be reasonable with a Troll, Ding-a-Ling. Zebonka's a troll. 'Twas ever thus. He's almost single-handedly ruined Queenzone's boards. BTW, I would be glad to talk about this in a thread that covers this very topic of trolls like Zebonka have such a run of the place here on QZ. It's just the subject came up here and that's when people will talk. I, too, think the Torpedo Twins suck. Or, perhaps better put, the decision on QP's part to continue to use them almost exclusively sucks, because the Torpedo Twins aren't really great documentarians. Now, wouldn't it be great if we could just talk about the topic at hand, without Zebonka et al. going on and saying, "Yeah, well, if Freddie hadn't stuck his arse out and gotten AIDS ...."? Now, wouldn't it be great if we could just talk about the topic at hand, without Zebonka et al. going on and saying, "Yeah, well, if Freddie hadn't stuck his arse out and gotten AIDS ...."?Hypothetically, though.... what if he hadn't? knakenrudi wrote: Zebonka rulesI wouldn't go that far... I don't suppose you'll like this response, but first of all success is a pretty broad term. I don't think that DoRo videos were seen by millions because DoRo were revolutionary directors or editors. They were seen by millions because they worked for Queen. Being hypothetical for a second, if Queen had hired another team to do their documentary stuff or music videos or interviews ... whatever you like - would we know who the Torpedo Twins even were? That is, of course, assuming they wouldn't have gone to work for U2 instead. Heh. |

ParisNair wrote: As already stated, I'm Going Slightly Mad was fun and creative. I feel this should have been our Freddie's last video instead of TATDOOL. He had enough make-up on to hide behind, unlike TATDOOL where he still looks terrible inspite of the make-up artist's best efforts and the B&W video. The whole video has a gloomy feel, not like Freddie would have wanted.Mmmm... given ten years hindsight, that might have been his opinion. I think the video is probably what Freddie would have wanted though, considering he was still alive when it was made. This is why I would like a GVH3 DVD. It would be nice to know a bit of the background of the Innuendo videos; they're among my favourite Queen videos. If not too much space on the DVD is taken up by Wyclif Jean and Elton John, who knows - we might get some decent special features. Bowie's response to Rudi in our Freddie's tribute concert documentary was funny. Infact I liked this documentary better than the actual concert even :-D I agree with this. I didn't like the musical direction much in the concert itself, but in the behind the scenes stuff you get quite a palpable sense of just how much the musicians appreciated Freddie and Queen. |

Bulsarian wrote: The Torpedo Twins suck? LOL I challenge anyone on this site who thinks just that to go out and have more success than they have! Go on. Do you think success means all for an artist? So Tokio Hotel and The Jonas Brothers are great just because they are successfull. Also, I agree with Zebonka: if they are known, is just because they work for Queen. They are not like Scorcese doing a film for The Rolling Stones: in that case, the two artists are respected and famous. Returning to the first discussion about DoRo, I think that details like finding out the correct date from the b/w interviews were part of their job, and they didn't do it well. Also, I think their videos (for Queen, I don't know their others works in their career) are so repetitive and predectible: for example, Too Much Love Will Kill You video has the same idea of The Show Must Go On one, but they are the same idea for all (or the major part)Queen Rocks Video too. By the way, I think Rare Live is the worst thing they have done: there are so much fake info about dates and audience, that it "makes my eyes bleed". |

I reckon the Doro guys were horrible editors and mediocre conceptualists. Consider that most of the best parts of the Slightly Mad video was stuff that came from Freddie's input. Dave Mallett has it all over them, their arses, and their balls, and if ever their videos turned out well, it was because someone came to them with a great idea (Breakthru) or the subject matter alone was enough to carry it (Days of our Lives, as if I even need to explain that). They were just very lucky to be in the right place at the right time with some cameras. |

I don't know how Freddie (who was more of an artist than a rocker) could have seen their earlier work and thought that it was good enough to use them again. Maybe the band was really, really hands off on videos / vhs compilations and whatnot and didn't know / care how they were being represented? |
john bodega 08.03.2012 11:28 |
I'd buy that theory. They didn't seem to care that whoever it was who filmed the Days of Our Lives doco was clearly one of these excitable young people who's never seen a DSLR before and absolutely loves going overboard with the depth of field - to the point that one of Brian's eyes is in focus, and the rest of his face is a gradually disappearing blur. Honestly. When I do fork over the money for a decent camera, I'll probably spend at six months making sure I know how to avoid making everything look 'trendy' (ie. spastic, constant defocusing and all the steadiness of a Michael J Fox home movie). |

"The videos for: One Vision The Show Must Go On Too Much Love Will Kill You No one liked these?? Really???" Well let's examine. One vision was a straight up studio performance video. Your dullest film student could come up with that concept - if the video has any strength it all, it owes it to having interesting looking subjects in the video. But that has nothing to do with DoRo. Get a team of chimps with cameras and the video probably could've turned out the same. As for Show Must Go On and Too Much Love - are you even serious?? Compilation videos? Christ o' mighty. You wouldn't even NEED any formal experience in editing to come up with something better. Sorry, but after seeing the same damn clips and the same predictable editing from the same boring brothers giving each other the same handjobs after all of those years ... it gets boring. |

I've said it before, but apparently it's so uncomfortable to many of you that it's best ignored: The Torpedo Twins totally, utterly, completely suck...when they are working with Queen. When they worked with David Bowie, or even Falco, or Rammstein, they weren't half bad. When they worked with Queen, they were awful. The question is not if, or how much, the Torpedo Twins suck (when they are working with Queen), the question is "*why* are their productions for Queen so lousy?" |
tero! 48531 11.03.2012 11:59 |
Can anybody shed some light on this quote from Wikipedia..? "In 2003, the Munich subsidiary, DoRo Media AG, bought back from the creditors, formed the basis for a restart of DoRo, in which Queen manager Jim Beach played a notable role. In the meantime, DoRo have reopened a branch office in Vienna." I wouldn't have expected Jim to be the slightest bit interested in helping out DoRo, but their close ties WOULD explain their continued use throughout the years. |
Holly2003 11.03.2012 14:47 |
I suspect Beach was involved to ensure any Queen material owned by Doro wasn't sold off to a 3rd party. Or they might just be friends. Or he saw a financial opportunity. Hard to say without inside knowledge. |
john bodega 12.03.2012 00:15 |
Maybe there's a "just as long as you promise never to ask to work for us again" clause in there. |
inu-liger 12.03.2012 02:12 |
Or maybe Jim was involved because, legally speaking, Queen may not have had full rights in the first place to ALL the footage DoRo shot and owned, and they likely didn't want the DoRo archives to be looted by creditors and 3rd parties who could theoretically do whatever they damn well pleased with it. |
tero! 48531 12.03.2012 07:32 |
If it is fact true that Jim had something to do with saving DoRo, there are two alternative reasons for it: 1) Jim Beach (and QP) are more than just customers of DoRo, and they have a continued business interest and/or strong sense of loyalty towards them. They feel DoRo has treated them well, and have agreed to help them out with no demands for the past material. 2) Jim Beach (and QP) are nothing more than past customers of DoRo, and saw their problems as a chance to purchase Queen material for their own future use. Since this was almost a decade ago, we can assume that future use does not include releasing the material. |
Mr.Jingles 13.03.2012 20:27 |
The only good thing DoRo has ever done for Queen was the 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' video. |

link After the tragic passing of WHITNEY HOUSTON Rudi is contacted by media all over the world. Rudi had the privilege of working with Whitney on various projects over the years – the most outstanding collaboration happened in 1999/ 2000 when Rudi started a documentary project on Whitney (first called “BEHIND THE SCENES” then working titles “CLOSE UP”, later “WHITNEY”), following her on the 1999 European tour. Whitney decided for the first time to let somebody film “behind the scenes” after viewing Rudi’s award winning doc’s on MILES DAVIS, QUEEN and THE ROLLING STONES. Due to the superb mutual understanding between Whitney and Rudi, he was able to capture some of the best, most intimate, moving and fascinating moments with Whitney on and off stage ever filmed. The outcome of this collaboration is approx. 50 hours of documentary footage and two complete concerts (multi-camera) - all completely unreleased to this day. RUDI DOLEZAL: “I am NOT interested in selling this footage – my heart is in it! I want to make it the NUCLEUS of a NEW Whitney documentary, filming new footage in 2012 and interviewing the relevant people close to her, turning it into an over all doc on who Whitney really was. But from my end there is no rush: first our prayers have to be with the family! Before I have not talked to the family and the Record Company – I will not say more about my ideas.” Maybe he is not interested to sell Knebworth either haha |
Holly2003 17.03.2012 16:23 |
50 hours of footage, likely to be condensed into a 30 min documentary, featuring one word from each interview badly edited into reconstructed sentences that don't make sense, and wrongly captioned. Woo hoo! |
