You guys should have placed better though. You've got me addicted to that now though...I'll have to watch it online again next year. Some of the stuff you guys over there in Europe do is so funny I nearly wet myself! |

UK viewers will be pleased to note that this thread is not associated with Woolworths, so the windows are not boarded up. go make yourselves a decent cup of tea and pull up a chair and chill out to Eric & Ernie's 70's xmas highlights link |

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xb9LXuROGI only 6 months to go before this nonsense again :-p i personally like the French blokes tribute to British movie legend Diana Dors in 1958,ABBA's love of a London train station in 1974 and the Dutch woman singing about my genitals in 1975... they dont make songs like they used to.... |
AspiringPhilosophe 11.12.2008 22:43 |
I watched it through one time, and then I saw your line about the Dutch woman in 1975. I tried to go back to see what song that was, but it was going to take too long to load. :-P Actually I was trying to figure out exactly when you guys decided to go from serious to cracked out...but the strangest winner I saw was Finland in 2006, and I think you told me you guys got crazy with it before then. Oh, and I couldn't help but notice that in the segment you posted (part I) there was an inordinate number of songs in my favorite language! :-D *waits to see if he takes the bait* |
JoxerTheDeityPirate 12.12.2008 04:50 |
^well,we thought we would let them win a few times or they would of sulked and banned all our beef again and not contributed to the funding of the Channel Tunnel.the Spanish wins dont count as the voting was more rigged than usual got to keep the garlic wearing, onion munching cheese eating surrender monkies happy ok i took the bait, but its christmas so dont hit me too hard... anyway part 2 when the songs got from the sublime to the ridiculous and countries ending in IA were allowed to bloc vote for each other and ruin an otherwise decent nights pisstake of Johnny Foreigner by us fairminded Brits http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=P8_XN2Ybdpw&NR=1 |

What I was more curious about is the year after year after year of Ireland winning. Isn't that against the rules, that the host country can win multiple years in a row? And I'll ignore your comment about the French...because half of them singing in French weren't from France at all. (Luxemborg and Switzerland come to mind) |

And I'll ignore your comment about the French...because half of them singing in French weren't from France at all. (Luxemborg and Switzerland come to mind) re Irelands wins: this was the era when the Irish were taking the event really seriously and putting in some decent songs, the voting is done by the public all across europe so the Irish wins are legit, however after about the 3rd win out of four it dawned on the Irish broadcasters that THEY had to keep putting on the show the following year at about $3m a time so they put in a really crap song about 'rock n roll heroes' to stop them winning and hosting it but they didnt count on the rest of Europe's public having appalling musical tastes and it won again, thankfully for the Irish,Katrina & the Waves came along in 97 and saved them from going bankrupt.now they just chuck in any old tat,ie a singing/rapping puppet turkey singing about Wogans wig just so they come last and never have to pay for it again. hope you liked Celine Dion and her 3 rows of teeth singing for the Swiss lol http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HArUmqqiL0s and todays is a little tribute to Oliver Postgate who died during the week |
