Are there any Queen songs without the RS? Of course songs that have any guitar parts... |
Rick 24.11.2008 13:11 |
Is This The World We Created? Long Away I guess Roger songs like Sheer Heart Attack and Fight From The Inside? Probably more... |
Mr Mercury 24.11.2008 13:13 |
Seaside Rendezvous is one I think |
David Jones 24.11.2008 13:39 |
Long Away does feature the RS I think, on the guitar orchestrations. Dear Friends? |

The solo part of Mother Love. |

> Long Away It does have the RS, during the break. > I guess Roger songs like Sheer Heart Attack and Fight From The Inside? I think they both have Bri on RS; Roger does play guitars there, but not all guitars. > Seaside Rendezvous is one I think Quoting the original post, 'Of course songs that have any guitar parts...' > Dear Friends? Quoting the original post, 'Of course songs that have any guitar parts...' > The solo part of Mother Love. Of course, but not all the song. For that matter, we could mention the Bo Rhap intro, or the first seconds of Save Me, etc. Now, songs without the Red Special, in the studio (off those featuring Brian on guitar): - Drowse: Although not credited for it, I think there's a strong chance that the slide used for the song isn't the RS. - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Man on the Prowl There are some pix showing Brian playing a Bison during the Opera era, but I don't know if that could make it to final cuts. If so, maybe I'm in Love With My Car's another one without a strong RS sound (compare studio and live versions). And then again, there are several songs without guitar (e.g. Dear Friends), and songs where the guitar's not played by Brian (e.g. Execution of Flash). |

- Crazy Little Thing Called Love Just the Tele, all the time (but the accoustic, of course)? I have to pay attention to that again. At first this made me a bit confused but I was thinking about the live version. Staying Power? Can't remember if it has a RS solo or something or even if there's an audible guitar at all. Back Chat has a lot of other guitar(s) but the solo is the RS. |

There is quite a difference between an electric (RS, tele) and an acoustic (12 string, spanish) guitar. Looking at all of them in the original post, there are quite a few songs i can imagine. Polar Bear :) Just cuz u can hear Deacon (is it John?) say something like '...playing your fucking 12 string!' |

> Are you sure it wasn't a buffalo? Positive. It wasn't an auroch either. > Just the Tele, all the time (but the accoustic, of course)? I have to pay attention to that again. At first this made me a bit confused but I was thinking about the live version. Live (1979-1982) it was Freddie on Ovation Pacemaker, Brian on Ovation, then Tele, then RS. Live (1984-1986) had Fred on Tele rather than Ovation. But in the studio it was Freddie on Martin D-18, Brian on Roger's Tele, and that was it. No RS, no Ovation, no black or cream Tele. > Staying Power? Can't remember if it has a RS solo or something or even if there's an audible guitar at all. It's actually got two guitars: Bri's RS doubling the synth here and there, and John's Tele doing double-stops. > Back Chat has a lot of other guitar(s) but the solo is the RS. And there's a rhythm RS as well, doing power chords. > What did they use on Man on the prowl? the tele again? Probably *a* Tele, but not necessarily the same as in CLTCL. > Wasn't it the Double-Six used on Long Away? Brian had a green Double-Six, but that's not the one I'm talking about. I mean a white six-stringed Burns Bison he'd also got during that era. > There is quite a difference between an electric (RS, tele) and an acoustic (12 string, spanish) guitar. Actually Queen never used twelve-string Spanish guitars. They did use twelve-string acoustic (folk) guitars, but whenever they played Spanish guitars (Who Needs You) they were six-stringed. > Princes Of The Universe doesnt have the Red Special Princes of the Universe, Play the Game, We Will Rock You, Spread Your Wings, Flash's Theme and Radio Ga Ga don't feature the RS in the videos, but they all have it on the record. |
Holly2003 25.11.2008 13:16 |
WWRY and SYW videos do feature the Red Special -- or at least a copy of the RS. It's an odd colour, but maybe that's due to the setting (or rising!) sun and the bright lights used for the shoot. I'm assuming the topic starter means a completely different brand like a Gibson or Strat? |

I think he used a Parker Fly for Mother Love, I will stand corrected though... and seeing as it doesnt say Queen songs without thr RS....he uses a JS Signature on Nothin But Blue. |

There's a bit of a terse atmosphere in the latter half of the interview when they talk about equal representation... I do find that a tad worrying. Actually Brian looks upset, to be frank. |

During the impromptu cover of Baba O'Riley in '77, the Red Special was still getting a string replaced so Brian took up an acoustic instead. |
