I wanted to know what the top 10 films everyone likes. Around here, the only English films that are popular are the hyped-up and lame ones. "The Da Vinci Code", despite being a blockbuster, went pretty much unnoticed and unpromoted in India. Anyway, my all time top 10 film list: 1. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest 2. The Graduate 3. Midnight Cowboy 4. Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 5. Apocalypse Now 6. Cool Hand Luke 7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 8. A Clockwork Orange 9. Taxi Driver 10. The Godfather Top 10 actors: 1. Jack Nicholson - I think he's the most versatile actor there ever was... From McMurphy in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" to "The Joker" in Tim Burton's Batman through Melvin Udall in "As Good As It Gets", he never got old... 2. Dustin Hoffman - I think he's just as good as Jack Nicholson as an actor but he's not as versatile. Loved him in every movie since "The Graduate". 3. Paul Newman("Fast Eddie Felson") RIP..he had everything; brains, good looks and a generous heart...perhaps the most admirable person on this list. 4. Marlon Brando... RIP...I can't say much else here because we all know him. He's the only "famous" guy I've ever met, as he was a friend of my father. I wasn't really interested in his movies until his death... He was really versatile..."Last Tango in Paris" was one of the most shocking films I'd ever seen... 5. Peter Sellers... Dr. Stranglelove...'nuff said... 6. Gregory Peck - Atticus Finch for President! 7. Tom Hanks 8. Johnny Depp/Heath Ledger - Everyone loves Johnny Depp but the thing about Heath Ledger is, a lot of us were skeptical about his talents until we saw "The Dark Knight" and even then some of us felt biased as it was his last performance. But the fact stands that he was a very talented character actor. 9. Robert De Niro - Loved him in everything since Taxi Driver. 10. Anthony Hopkins - His performance in the Hannibal movies got me interested in the novels. |

Well, I have a lot of favs but no.1 is "Blade Runner". Great story, great visual effects, great score(Vangelis), great acting, superb "atmospere" etc. etc. Ridley Scotts finest and a extraordinary work of art. One of 100 movies you have to see before you die. Actors is a little harder cause they tend to get stuck in a genre so lets do it like this: Action: Bruce Willis. Yeah I know he's an average actor but I can't help that I fucking LOVE "The 5th element"(witch maybe should have been categorised under scifi...). Aventure: Harrison Ford. Face it, he's INDY. Scifi: Sigourney Weaver. Can deliver a unquestionable feeling of fear whilst fucking up aliens. Drama: Sir Anthony Hopkins. Nuff said. Horror: The one, the only Robert Englund, Mr. Freddy Kreuger. Sick. Twisted. Funny. Comedy: Jim Carrey, without a doubt. He's also a FANTASTIC actor off the comedy scene IMO. |

Oh man I forgot Marlon and Newman. Well, you're legends now. RIP. |
Saif 19.11.2008 13:24 |
Hmm, let me try by genre as well... films as well as actors... Horror: Film: The Shining Actor: Jack Nicholson. Honestly, "The Shining" is the ONLY film that's ever scared me.(I bet this is a stupid choice) Drama: Film: The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy. Actor: Dustin Hoffman. "The Graduate" defined an era while "Midnight Cowboy" challenged taboos, IMO. One of the few times I cried watching a film was when I found out that "Ratso" died on the bus. :( Courtroom-Drama: Film: To Kill A Mockingbird Actor: Uh... I give the edge to Gregory Peck even though Hoffman and Denzel are pretty good in Kramer vs. Kramer and Philadelphia respectively. Science-fiction: Film: 2001: A Space Odyssey Actor: Harrison Ford. He was in Star Wars AND Blade Runner. Top that! Prison drama: Film: Cool Hand Luke Actor: Paul Newman..."What we have here is a failure to communicate...", I love saying that in a faux-Texan accent. It's fun to do that. World War II: Film: The Pianist Actor: I'm not sure... it would be shallow to say Adrien Brody since he doesn't have a lot of movies to his credit. Vietnam War: Film: This is really hard. We have Platoon, Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Born on the Fourth of July and Full Metal Jacket... I guess I'll say Apocalypse Now... Actor: Marlon Brando, maybe??? Organized Crime: Film: The Godfather, The French Connection, Goodfellas Actor: Robert De Niro Western: Film: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Actor: Clint Eastwood, no contest. |

Ah, Saif, I see that you have lots of Stanley Kubrick movies on your list. . . I loves him as well. A few of my favourites are: -The Rocky Horror Picture Show -A Clockwork Orange -Cabaret -The Producers (Both) -Quills -The Graduate -O Brother, Where Art Thou? -Labyrinth -Clue -Lolita (the old one) And as for actors, I don't really have ones that I especially like. Geoffrey Rush, Tim Curry, Anthony Hopkins, Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi are perhaps a few. |

Hey Saif Nice, To Kill A Mockingbird. Greatness. Did you happen to notice who was playing Boo Radley? |

Well I do and I still think she's the hottest chick to walk the earth. Also, My other childhood dream was to be Jareth(Bowie)...to command a goblinarmy, walk the stairs upside down but mostly just throw bad goblins and other foes in the bog of eternal stench whilst I try my hardest to nail the babysitter Sarah. One word: UTOPIA. |

It eluded me until I saw The Godfather Parts I-II back to back and my sister said about Tom Corleone..."this is the guy who played Boo Radley". He was also in Apocalypse Now, I think. |

I like that one too because Kubrick did the best adaptation possible despite the immense censorship(changing Lolita's age from 12 to 14 years and so on). I like the 2005 version of The Producers, the one with Uma Thurman. "Springtime for Hitler" :D |

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is my favorite film... haha, once I watched it over and over again for like three weeks straight, since the DVD plays it over and over, and I kept watching. I feel like locking myself in a mental institution just to hang around with the weirdo's in there, but I'm afraid I'd feel too confined and cause trouble and end up not being able to get out! LoL. Also, Jack Nicholson is my favorite actor... his films are my favorites really... The Shining, Something's Gotta Give, Anger Management, About Schmidt, As Good As It Gets, The Crossing Guard, Bucket List, and a Few Good Men... I gotta buy a lot more of the films he is in. The guy is in great shape for his age. |

The guy is in great shape for his age. Yeah, Jack Nicholson's my favourite actor and "One Flew Over..." is also my favourite film. I don't think anyone will ever get close to him in talent. The Shining is the only horror film that's ever scared me because for some odd reason even "The Ring" and other infamously "scary" movies barely shock me. Maybe it's simply because Kubrick + Nicholson = Lethal combination. If you haven't seen them already, you should really see Chinatown and The Last Detail. And goddamnit, I loved The Bucket List. With Morgan Freeman with him, it reminded me a lot of "The Shawshank Redemption". Another great actor and a favorite of mine is Robert Redford. God knows why I forgot to include him... :( |
