Ok, it's going to sound crap compared to old Freddie, but just leave honest and contructive feedback. As my voice would suggest, I am quite young, so please be somewhat merciful...
Being very honest (sorry), this seems to be a very monotone and nervous performance.
Being shaky at best, I think your voice sounds better at the higher end of it's range, which isn't that great for a baritone.
On a promising side, something tells me that there could be some un - tapped power in that voice somewhere.
With some training and breathing exercises you could probably learn not to sing from your throat and improve somewhat.
Im no singer, but I felt a response was necessary.
Maybe someone who can sing will be able to shed a little more light.
Being a professional vocalist, I suppose I should do my duty and give some feedback.
It's not completely horrible - at least you've got some idea what to do with your voice, and for the most part, the pitch is alright. And as the previous poster said, the high end sounds better, but there seems to be a lot of tension in the performance, so first you should get used to singing with a microphone, and get rid of any surrounding elements which might lose your focus from the song the next time you attempt recording. Since the midi background was in a different key from the original, I'm assuming you transposed the midi to suit your scale, or that the midi was already in the wrong key, forcing you to sing the octave leaps which belong there (I ain't ready - crazy little thing...) in the same octave. It would be interesting to hear you sing it in the original key, but first I suggest you listen to the original more closely, and pay attention to Freddie's phrasing and use of dynamics.
Hope it was helpful, and not too harsh. Good luck, mate. [/img]
Right, well thank you both for your comments and it is good to hear from professional singer.
I will start by saying it's a bit ironic that my higher end is better seeing how my singing teacher says that I'm a bass singer (which would seem true upon hearing myself sing a substantially lower song than this one).
I will admit it's quite shaky, although I suppose that's something experience can sort out with improved confidence and better grasp of vocal technique.
I think the note concerning dynamics should definitely be taken on board and I shall try to make use of your advice.
Oh, and yes, this has been transposed from the original key. I might try that key at a later date and see if there is any improvement.
And no, the criticism is not too harsh whatsoever ;)
