Who's do you think is the best Queen song writer I would personally say Roger because of the hits he wrote for Queen & The Cross & His Solo stuff all his songs are great what do you think. |
April 08.11.2008 17:36 |
I think i agree with you, It seems to be Roger. |
steven 35638 08.11.2008 17:39 |
All four were strong writers with different tastes. It would be quite impossible for me to pick the strongest; however, it's very obvious who, among them, wrote the most hits. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. |
boca 08.11.2008 17:47 |
well, don't have anything against Roger, but Queen succeded in 70-s because of songs from Freddie and Brian. John had also big hit You're my best friend. Roger first major hit was Radio gaga, only in 1984...I would say Freddie was the best... |
david (galashiels) 08.11.2008 18:32 |
were all the later queen songs not credited to queen?.and not one person.i may be wrong on this.but assuming you are talking about early queen.my vote is for roger.now i may be and possibly am wrong, but.did he get the credit for heaven for everyone and a kind of magic.if so he wins. |
new one 08.11.2008 18:42 |
Yes Roger did get credit for Heaven for everyone and A Kind of Magic but his original version of magic and the one that was released bore little relationship to one another. Freddie chaged the arrangement whilst Roger was on holiday and that is the version on the album and single I think. Perhaps the magic on the credits of the Highlander film is Rogers original version, I'm not sure. It does seem strange that the song wasn't credieted to both he and Freddie give Freddies input. I'm not sure who the best songwriter was myself. Freddie certainly wrote most of the big hits early on with the others writing more of them in the 80s. Infact Freddies last big hit with the band was Its a Hard life unless you count Innuendo which was of course credited to them all |
david (galashiels) 08.11.2008 18:59 |
i heard a cross version of heaven for everyone(i think a cross version)where some guy talks at the start.and i feel this is a better version.so roger wins.but.......theres always a but lol.as a group ,not solo, but as a group it would be impossible to seperate each talent in the wrighiting(how do you spell wrighting) department.i voted rog because of akom purley because i love the track.but i think that all the guys talents show up in mainly later albums. |
tjbarrett96 08.11.2008 20:55 |
Hmm...if I had to choose, I would say....oh....Brian/Freddie. Brian writes with a lot of emotion (Sail Away Sweet Sister, Father To Son), but Freddie has an extraordinary imagination (Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke, Bo Rhap, MOTBQ). |
ITSM 08.11.2008 22:37 |
I think Freddie. All songs are very different from each other. From Great King Rat, My Fairy King, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, The March of the Black Queen, In The Lap of the Gods, Death on two legs to Delilah. Very good fantasy. But Brian got some great songs too! Like White Queen, Save Me, She Makes Me, Teo Torriatte and It's Late. John got some classics, In only seven days and Another one bites the dust for example. But I think Roger got the best lyrics in Drowse. Especially the last verse. And of course Fight from the inside is cool. I can't sleep so I made a list : ) |

I've never understood why people use A Kind of Magic as an example of Rogers composer talents as everything that was really appealing about the song an made it a success (base, beat, tempo, guitar riffs) were almost entirely down to Freddie re-working on the soundtrack song. |
Band Forever 09.11.2008 12:32 |
As acknowledged by peers contemporaries fans all four members were gifted and talented songwriters. I believe with Freddie's amazing vocals and tone of voice this helped inspire the band to new and higher levels of creativity not attainable and replicated in other artists. You could have given that material to any other singer and the songs would probably never had the same impact or richness because other singers would be changing keys, simplifying the arrangements to suit their particular vocal range. So Freddie for me. |
Kind of Magician 09.11.2008 12:47 |
1. Freddie 2. Brian 3. John 4. Roger |
Band Forever 09.11.2008 12:57 |
When you hear and compare modern production, I just wish they could give the production on the Queen catalouge for example the same treatment they did with the Live in Montreal gig. I have to really listen to what Roger sings in Drowse its not exactly coherent i suppose thats why its called Drowse you have to be stoned to figure out the speech. Roger is not my favourite singer, I wonder what people's hearing is like with some of the comments on this forum, i guess Roger knows his voice wasn't going to sell like Freddie's, thats why Fred got the bulk of the lead vocals, and imo Fred should have sung the whole lot...ego i suggest dictated otherwise. |
dobo 09.11.2008 13:12 |
for me its Brian May beacuse I love his solo work as well as his work in Queen !!! |
Russian Headlong 09.11.2008 15:41 |
Brian definitely. then Fred and Roger. Deacon wrote pop songs, some catchy, AOBTD, IWTBF, You and I, IYCBTJT, most rubbish though. |
mike hunt 10.11.2008 00:34 |
Kind of Magician wrote: 1. Freddie 2. Brian 3. John 4. Roger that's the way I also see it, it's down to personal taste once it comes to freddie and brian, but roger and John didn't write enough in Queen to have a chance. Again, roger is my least favorite. |
AmeriQueen 11.11.2008 18:46 |
Yeah, but he co-wrote about half of The Cross songs, and his extra solo stuff makes up from his 1 or 2 songs vs. Freddie and Brian's 4 or 5 each on the first 5 albums and then it only closed the gap a little bit. I think Mercury has the overall edge by just a bit, then probably Taylor and May tied, but Deacon the best lyrics of all 4. |
madeinheaven! 42122 12.11.2008 14:54 |
I'd don't think you can say who's best. They all write very different songs and I love them all!!! |

Although all four wrote some very good songs in their own right. All four have also written some very bad songs too. Below are what I comsider to be each individual song writer 3 worse efforts. Freddie Body language Man on the prowl Princes of the universe Brian She makes me Gimme the price Dancer John One year of love Cool cat Pain is close to pleasure Roger More of that jazz Don't loose your head Action this day |

Talyor and may are tied?...I know it's all down to personal taste, but how can you compare talyor who wrote such gems as 'loser in the end' 'more of that Jazz' 'Fun it' 'don't lose your head' and 'coming soon' to the great songwriter that brian may was in his prime. The only people who like 'the cross' and solo roger are fanatical Queen fans. |

'Princess of the universe' is a great song, it's also a favorite of brians. I like 'one year of love,' I never understood why that song gets bashed here on queenzone, and 'action this day' is a pretty good song from hot space, especially live. |

Princes... is a great song IMO! I also love Gimme The Prize, it's Freddie's most agressive vocal performance... |

I have to say Fred. It took a great mind to write boheiman rhapsody and killer queen. not only those, but love of my life, crazy little thing called love, somebody to love, we are the champions, seven seas of rhye, and death on two legs are all awsome fred songs.[/img] |

Anyone could have written the songs of Deacon, May, and Taylor. Good songs, but nothing incredibly special. Only one man could have written BoRap, Killer Queen, March of the Black Queen, Bicycle Race, You Take My Breath Away, Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, etc. The 3 "others", at their best, were good songwriters. Freddie, at his best, was unprecedented and incredibly unique. |

This thread like so many on this site are moot points, that is they can be argued equally from either perspective, neither is either right or wrong. For me Killer Queen is saccharin rubbish, Bicycle Race, give me a break, and I'm bored with BoRhap! I do agree with the inclusion of March of the Black Queen however. FM trolled out some absolute dross, as did BM, RT & JD. As for who is the best? Honours even in my book! |

Freddie was great. Brian was pretty good. John was funky. Roger could rock. But the best Queen song writer is obviously David Bowie. |

Theres NO question for this matter Freddie Mercury the Best..he wrote the best song of all time BO RHAP...and the least not to forget..That song written by Mercury was the song who brought them into Fame..and Paid all their debt!!! that came from Brian..[/img] [/img] |
