They need to tour the US for this CD to take off because Americans don't know good music and they need to see it in order to like it. But, give 'em some time and we'll see.
The previous Queen studio album, Made in Heaven, peaked at #58 in the US. Thirteen years ago, and *with* Freddie Mercury. So mark it down in your notes, Queen fans - in the Obamamistic US of A, The Cosmos Rocks is more successful than Made in Heaven. Zing! And its a huge improvement over the Return of the Champions live release, the only other chart measure of QPR, which peaked at #88 (and that was already a gargantuan improvement over the last several Queen-with-Freddie live album releases, which I don't think even charted at all in the US).
Debuting at #47, thirteen years after your last album, seventeen years after your celebrated frontman died, with a new singer, a median age of around 60, with no TV promotion, very little media attention, and no tour, is a success that borders on the astonishing. If they'd done some TV, had a record company that could promote itself out of a wet paper bag, and were touring in the States right now, they would have easily debuted in the top 30, maybe even the top 20 - and a Queen album hasn't done that in about 25 years, since the band couldn't get arrested in the States when Freddie was alive from about 1981 on. And if the band tours over here next year, it will definitely help the album move more units. I bet they're turning cartwheels in the dark evil halls of Queen Productions, Ltd., on the news that the album has charted this high!
So, bottom line, the divisive The Cosmos Rocks with Paul beats the beloved Made in Heaven with Freddie by 11 notches thirteen years later. Who would have ever guessed??? It boggles the mind! And it just goes to show that people are capable of enjoying living singers at least as much as dead ones. So huzzah for the USA, you've done two things right in the last week. Keep it up!
Couldn't have said it better myself! Your take on matters is spot on. For this album to debut at #47 is nothing short of amazing. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this album will climb upwards on the chart and hopefully peak somewhere in the Top 20. The other latest albums all entered and climbed. So this one should do the same. It would be a shame for it to fall off the chart without making at least some ascent towards the top.
The thing that makes me a bit nuts is AC/DC and their top spot. That album is EVERYWHERE I look. TV, paper ads, radio ads, etc. It has to be up at the top of the charts as it is so IN YOUR FACE people are near brainwashed to buy it. A bit more IN YOUR FACE advertisement of TCR might come in handy, but doubt it will happen.
The USA Street Team has been doing our best to get the word out about the album. Flyers, window clings and web postings don't have the same effect as TV and radio. We'll keep making noise about the album and hope for the best.

It's the typical thing. Put something in front of people and they will buy it. The AC/DC is all over Walmart. It's not wonder it's selling so well, they are basically ramming it down people's throats.
I am sure the street team has had an impact, but as you said there is nothing that anybody on the street team can do about TV exposure. I've not seen a single commercial for it, even on VH1.
I'm surprised this album made #47, but not shocked. With Queen being more popular these days, thanks to
american idol, and commericals with queen music in it. The key is for it to climb the charts, remember Innuendo and the miracle made the top 25 without any touring. I'm sure those albums would have made the top 10 if freddie was healthy, and went on a huge tour to support those albums. let's see what happens if they tour the states.
the new album ROCKS!!!!!!!!!.the produtin and sound quality of it is first rate. brians guitar sounds great and the vocals are great. hopefually as more people here this album it will climb the charts. 5 stars!!!
As the poster above pointed out, and having bought Queen albums since 1978 and seeing how bad the last few did...I'm ASTONISHED it hit #47...how on Earth did that happen?!? I figured it would hit #200 and then disappear.
