Would love to, but I have a 0540 flight cross-country to Seattle tomorrow to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra. There isn't any possible way I could be out until midnight and then be up by 0300 to catch my flight. I have the Kharkov DVD, so except for the impact of the big screen and missing out on a "one-off" showing, I'm not too bummed. Hope everyone going enjoys the experience. |

So I went to see Queen+ Paul Rodgers' "Let the Cosmos Rock" at Movies 14 in Mishawaka, IN tonight. Including myself I think there was a total of about five people there which was not entirely unexpected considering there's shit promotion for it. Anyway, I had seen bits & pieces of the show on youtube of course but nothing quite prepares you for seeing it on a massive screen. Visually it was a wonder to see though my neck got a bit cramped from looking up. My biggest gripe (and it's a big one) was the audio. Now I don't know if it was the mix (which I doubt) or if the theater's surround speakers were that bad but there was virtually NO surround sound to speak of, everything seemed to be coming from the front speakers. Oh sure there was some noise from the sides but it's pretty bad when you can't even hear the backing vocals and the bass was sorely lacking. It really robbed the performance of having any weight. Lead vocals, lead guitar were crystal clear with the drums falling somewhere in the middle in terms of sound quality. So yeah, that kinda brought down my enjoyment level. As for the show itself, it wasn't the best I've seen them perform. Granted this WAS the very first show of the current tour so I suppose that can be forgiven. Some personal highlights; Roger Taylor's drum solo first playing away on an upright electric bass(!) then coming to his drumset. He was flailing away *as his drumkit was being put together*! Take THAT John Bonham! The boys playing "Bad Company" was pretty damn good as well. "Say It's Not True" came together nicely with Roger, Brian May & Paul bringing the studio version to life. It was rather comical to see how hard Paul was trying to get the crowd to sing along with "All Right Now." Each time he went to them they kinda...well, didn't. On his last try they finally chirped in and the look on Paul's face as he said "You got it!" was priceless. Sound issues aside, it was a decent concert though, as I said, clearly not their best. It will be released on DVD (probably next year) so perhaps then I'll finally be able to hear the damn thing properly. |

i went in NYC - 3 people there including me (1 person was taking notes, prob a critic or blogger) - cosmos rocks and c-lebrity are great live |
Erin 06.11.2008 22:44 |
Dang...3 people...5 people.. Maybe our 10 wasn't half bad! ;-) I noticed the lack of decent surround sound, too, so it wasn't just your theater, Michael. |

I just got back from seeing the "movie" in North Brunswick, NJ. I'd say about 35-40 people in attendance. I enjoyed it very much, but I agree, the sound (especially backing vocals) was horribly low! Here's hoping for a N.A. tour in '09!!! |

Greetings everyone, well I went to this in Saginaw MI and it was PACKED...... Just kidding, there was a total of 6 of us there, 4 of my friends and 2 older people that made a comment that they hope it wasnt going to be TOO loud .. my friend said if its too loud you're too old.. but she didn't hear him.. GREAT show though, loved when Roger beaned himself with the tambourine at the end of 39... |

My wife and I went to see the movie at a theatre about 10 miles outside of New Orleans, LA in a town called Harvey, on the Westbank of the Mississippi river and the crowd loved it which made sense because my wife and I were the crowd-no one else was there, just the two of us. As far as the movie goes the sound in the theatre was good so we got the full effect of the music and all the overdubs. The visual quality of the film was very good also. The biggest problem I had with the show is three guitar solos in a row from Brian - the Brighton Rock bit, Bijou (which was great) and Last Horizon. Three is too many and even though I am a huge Brian fan I felt there was a lull during this segment. Thank god there was no A Kind of Magic or Radio Gaga as in my opinion these two could be replaced by other songs anyway and their absence was a reprieve. All in all it was a good looking and sounding film but it did feel strange to be in the theatre with no one else there. Hope they hit the U.S. in 2009-might be the last chance to catch them. |

Just saw the QPR movie concert in Kansas City, MO Northlands. Total in attendance was 11. I agree, the audio was CRAP! Highlight of the show was Cosmos Rockin...that is an AWESOME live track! Lowlight was the $18!! Could have bought a DVD for that price and cranked the audio properly! But Queen was in top form...Paul was better than the last tour. I'd seen youtube clips, but putting it all together was a different story. Bijou was awesome as was Seagull! Lets cross fingers in hopes QPR come to the US in '09!! |

Just returned from seeing the Cosmos Rocks!!!! Ok first I saw the movie at a great theatre in NJ The Ritz in Voorhees outside of Philly. Some of the things have already been said, the sound absolutely sucked! There was no surrouned sound to speak of, and this really affected the experience. The sound was coming from the front of the theatre with the exception of a few side speakers. I was expecting full surround sound especially for $15 a ticket!!! As far as the concert itself, it was a great concert vibe, although the energy wasn't as good as ROTC DVD. However the band sounded great, would have like to here some more new songs, But it was great to here Shooting Star which they dropped into the tour. |

Just got back. I saw it in Waukesha, WI (Milwaukee Metro) about 35 people in a 200 capacity cinema. I would agree the audio took a while to kick in. Our folks started it @7:15 not 7:30 so many of the sparse crowd missed the opening set. Now I have seen 11 show of the TCR tour..this show was fab, nicely presented and a better set list (more paul songs). I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the sound issues. People were clapping and singing along to the songs. Missing from the set..Radio Ga Ga, Wishing Well, IAKOM. I thought the video and editing thereof was supberb, much better than ROTC. I have to say this film was better than some of the shows I saw live a month ago. I had some fellow PR fans in attendance who clapped and cheered for Paul songs :-) After the show made a point to listen to the reaction/comments..all were positive and some mentioned that now they need to bring the show to Milwaukee... so I am very pleased at the presentation of the music but disappointed at the sparse turn out. |

After my post complaining about ticket prices, my wife and I went anyway. We were among eight in the starting audience (four of them would ultimately leave before the show had reached halfway). And I almost walked out early on--the theatre was having serious audio problems to begin with. You could barely hear anything for the first few minutes, and it absolutely killed the One Vision opening. Even when it did finally get fixed for good (most of the way through Dust), the mix had almost no surround to speak of, and the bass was WEAK. Cutting songs out of the set, eh, I knew it was coming. But the intro tape sounded AWFUL after they hacked it to shreds, and some of the songs themselves were edited down heavily. I know the band played abbreviated versions of OV, TYMD, and Hammer to Fall at the show itself, but other songs had bits and pieces cut out in postproduction. All Right Now seemed to be missing a chunk, and Champions, the grand finale, was reduced to one verse and a chorus! Ridiculous! That said, my wife and I went, and we had a good time. At some points, it was completely immersing, and I felt a little less bad about spending $36 for two people to see a movie. At others, especially during Bo Rap, the "stage onscreen" aspect of it seemed to really hurt. It's also worth mentioning that, as we know, in the original TV broadcast, the fans were not nearly as loud and vocal--and they didn't sing that last line of Bo Rap either, which prompted a laugh from Paul (that was surprisingly left in the final audio mix). Cosmos Rocks, by the way, is an awesome song live. I LOVED Brian switching over to a twelve-bar blues beat, reminiscent of what he'd do for Freddie during Jailhouse Rock, at the very end of the song to let Paul improvise over a bit. Hearing I Want It All played with the album guitar intro was a refreshing surprise, too. The sad, simple fact is that no movie could ever have really satisfied me. I want to see the guys come to this side of the pond one more time, even if I have to drive to Los Angeles to see them play. Realizing that that's just not likely to happen, especially given Brian's recent "it's not happening next spring" comments, I went in knowing that this was almost certainly my last chance to see Queen "live." In the end, Ukraine '08 was a pretty solid show, but unfortunately, technical difficulties and a horrible audio mix put a damper on an otherwise worth-the-money evening. |
Michael Allred 07.11.2008 01:52 |
Well, good to know I wasn't totally ripped off in the audio department then. What the hell happened? Someone should e-mail Brian about this, I'm sure he'd be displeased. Someone needs to lose their job over that, it REALLY brought the enjoyment level down. |
e-man 07.11.2008 03:52 |
what about the obvious mistakes in the live broadcast? (some solos, c-lebrity vocals, SINT etc) - edited out? I'm surprised they cut magic and gaga |
PieterMC 07.11.2008 08:05 |
There was something very odd about the audio at the start of SINT. I did notice that the backing vocals were low in the mix. And yes, all the mistakes and flubs were fixed. |
turini 07.11.2008 08:28 |
No idea why they cut out three songs.. |

About 15-20 people at the Regal Theater in Lincolnshire, IL I thought the audio problems were the fault of the theater...but I guess from reading some posts here, that's not the case. |
Legy 07.11.2008 10:59 |
I saw it The Edwards Marq-e Theater in Houston last night. The theater wasn' full, but there was at least 80 people or so there. I thought it was a great concert, but the mix was horrible! |
Sportzfan76 07.11.2008 11:14 |
I saw the movie in Warwick RI (outside Providence). About 30 people in attendance. No audio problems here - sounded pretty damn good - would sound even better in my home theater I'm sure ! lol Great performance - nice how they have changed up the show since the last tour. I was glad there was no Radio Gaga - i dislike that song live. (I prefer the original 12" xtended mix version) i also don't like ABTD sung by Paul - but as a #1 chart song in the USA it obviously has to be played. ...other than that Its interesting the way PR is putting his style and spin to the Queen catalog. Bijou - what an awesome surprise ! Also, I thought the three new songs went over very well! ! ! ! The harmony part for "ooh yeh" on Bo Rap knocks my f'n socks off ! Someone mentioned 3 songs were ommited from the movie - anyone know what they were ? |
Fly away 07.11.2008 11:30 |
Saw it in downtown Albuquerque (new Mexico) last night, with about 10 other folks. Another bloke there said that the theatre had sold 32 tickets for it, but clearly not all showed up. Really enjoyed it - looked great. Agree that the sound was weird: first song and a half it sounded like part of the mix was missing, but I thought at the time that the theatre had not turned up the volume enough. Disappointed that there was not even stereo, as I was really looking forward to hearing Brian's solo in the theatre. Overall - worth the $15, but needs some more work before being ready for a DVD release. I wonder if the attendance around the country at this event will be used to determine in which cities they will tour...if they tour. |

Glad I didn't waste my money and time.... A hacked up job. But, what else would we expect from Queen Productions? |
Micrówave 07.11.2008 11:45 |
Well, I was going to buy a High School Musical 3 ticket for 6.50, but I sacked up and paid the full $18 twice. Took my daughter. Yes the sound was just so poor, and this was a theatre that brags about it's digital surround sound. We stayed thru most of the show, but grew a little weary of the concert in a theatre setting. But I ended up watching the show FOR FREE. I simply went and complained about the sound and made an attendant walk in and hear for himself. Within 10 minutes, I had $36 in a gift card from the theatre. |

Around 20 in Buffalo NY.........but not surprising since there was no promotion.....we couldn't even see anything advertising it in the theatre itself i.e. you could go there and not know it was playing that day at all as it wasn't even listed in the movies playing section....................thought the show was cool overall....nice to see in good picture quality...wish it was louder in the theatre .....Cosmos Rocks was great live.....C-lebrity back vocals were too far back...loved hearing Shooting Star and Bad Company (since watching originally over the internet from the Ukraine)....knew they'd be rough around the edges for their first show but it was much better than the first show last tour....(because it wasn't 7+ years since they had played)....like that Brian has changed his solo somewhat (addition of Bijou which was cool)....and like Roger's creativity with solos with QPR...gotta say Roger sounds great on the studio album and live... Really really hope they make it to North America now |

State College, Pa We had over 50 in attendance at our theater and it sounded fantastic for using the movie system. People here need to realize that most of the problem comes from the sound systems these theaters are using. It's a big area to fill and they aren't designed for concert sound, they are designed for movies. The system at our theater had to be cranked up to 9 and it's usually on 2 for this show. Of the show itself, it looked fantastic. My biggest gripe was the missing songs obviously, but what pissed me off even more was the editing of songs. Seriously? One verse of WATC which is suppose to be the finale? Cmon... what crap were these production people trying to pull? |

One verse of WATC which is suppose to be the finale? Cmon... what crap were these production people trying to pull? Only part of One Vision, Tie Your Mother Down and Hammer to Fall were played at the show itself. The big edits I picked up on were the bad slap-job done on the intro tape, what felt like an entire chorus cut from All Right Now, most of the stage banter being removed, and Champions being reduced to one verse and a chorus. I don't think the show lost much from cutting out the songs they completely removed (although the cut between Feel Like Making Love and Bo Rap was painfully obvious). Even the All Right Now edit wasn't too harsh, but taking out half of Champions was ridiculous, and an otherwise brilliant intro tape was completely ruined by the edits. I'm also not a big fan of the intro the band used here to begin with. One Vision should have been left in the '80s, or at the very least used as a mid-set rocker instead of opening with half of it, and Tie Your Mother Down should NEVER be edited down. I know some here are sick of listening to it, but I can't think of many other songs out there from ANY band that fill a spot in the set as well as TYMD fills the second slot in Queen's. Cutting half of it out (including the huge ending) so you can medley it into TSMGO was, imo, a bad decision. I did love '39, though, and as mentioned by lots of people (myself included), Cosmos Rockin' is a great live song. I actually prefer it either as the closing number (which will never happen as long as they're playing Bo Rap) or an encore piece. Surf's Up is by far the best opening song they've used on this tour--but I still wish they'd ball up and play an abbreviated Now I'm Here that leads into TYMD. |
