Who has been to a concert of Deep Purple current tour? Could you compare the Queen concert and the Deep purple concert? They all are around 60 now. Which concert is objectively better? Dismiss the thing that you are a Queen fan for a while. |

haven't seen purple on the current tour. but I saw them about 18 months ago. they are superb. their show is very different to a QPR show - purple features alot of jamming between organ/guitar and alot of the songs runs longer than many Queen songs Ian Gillan is still a good singer, but considering age, he has not aged as well as Paul (who probably sings better than ever). Still, Ian Gillan had a HUGE range in the 70s - so perhaps it's not fair to compare, as paul and ian are very different singers. QPR had better lights, sound and build up of the show/set list. musicianship wise - not many bands can match deep purple. Ian Paice is one of the most gifted drummers in the world, (roger is superb as well, but not in the techical sense that paice is.) Steve Morse is an incredible guitarist. not as inventive as Brian May, but when it comes to jamming and trading off with the organ/singer - he's insanely good. Purple has alot of organ as well, which of course Queen has not. and don airey is a master of his instrument so it all comes down to what band you like the most. they're both superb, in their own ways. but whatever you do - do NOT miss the chance to see Deep Purple and QPR :) |

Different shows... can't compare... Purple have a more "simple" show, simple lights, just 5 guys playing rock, Queen+PR is spectacular in everysense, a very visual show like has always been, lights, effects, iconic stages... Purple shows are more originals and every show is unique, they have the hability to make a different show every night, they jam a lot and every song is a one off... on the other hand, Q+PR shows, is always the same, even the spoken parts with the audience, introductions, and even the songs... to see Q+PR more than a couple of times must be like watching a 3-D dvd... everything is repeated every single night... very boring... like Pink Floyd shows of the last 2 tours... you can make sure to have 1 bootleg of the tour and you're fine xD |

i've seen deep purple last november (i think it's year ago today) and they were great. ian still sings good considering his age (he's doesn't scream, he's not forcing it) and sings songs he can still deliver, so you're guessing no child in time. they have pretty simple stage and lights for such a big band and i'm hoping i'll see then again sometimes. QPR shows are more technically better, better lights, stage and probably the sound plus great music of course. without all that spectacular show QPR are still better band live, in the end it all comes down to music. but purple are also great |

I won't bother with statistics but I'm sure you'll find that the number of songs played on a tour is not THAT different from Purple to QPR Ian Gillan also introduces many songs in pretty much the same way every night I saw Kiss twice this summer. and the only difference from one night to the other was when Paul Stanley used the town's name in his in between songs banter. the set list was the same. the banter was the same. I also saw Bruce Springsteen twice, on his two night stand in Norway. the second night we got 17 (!!!) songs not played on the first night. incredible. he even changes the set as the night goes on..at one point during one of the long endings he was running around to each member of the band obviously shouting what to play next, and then, Born in the USA. nowhere to be seen on any set list. he also takes requests from the audience, going around on the front row collecting signs. on a stadium concert level, that's pretty unique. one of the songs that was requested hadn't been played since 1992, and they didn't do it in the soundcheck, which obviously meant it hadn't been rehearsed for a while. very brave and very crowd pleasing. Living on the edge, and that takes alot of guts in front of 40 000 people. and back to QPR; sure, many of us would like to see a more rolling set list. and fair play to QPR; there has been changes. but I'm guessing they put the set together with the persons attending ONE concert in mind. to the casual fan - I want to break free and I want it all is more important than Death on two legs and Keep Yourself alive. about the introductions and banter - from the bootlegs I've heard and the shows I've attended, they're not the same at all. How many ways can you go "and on the guitar mr jamie moses!" ? the intros to love of my life have been different, the intros to 39.... so I'll agree that the set list is very often the same, but the crowd interraction? Very interesting to read about everybody's impressions and ideas. So I did go to the Deep Purple concert and enjoyed it very much. The stadium was packed and the audience was very varied, from about 50 down to 16. There were a lot of middle-aged couples and fathers with teenagers. The band looked good, dressed in a rockish way. When I saw the great Jan Gillan I had to catch my breath, I was really impressed by seeing the legend, the one who sang Jesus Christ Superstar. The band sang old songs, certainly SOTW, and rather new ones. I looked differently at Perfect Strangers, it was performed superbly! It's my favourite now. The best thing was that the stadium responded to each song very enthusiastically, many people danced and not only in the fan area. So did I! Some say that Jan no longer sings Child In Time, as it is hard for him.That's true, he avoided singing the song. But the man is 64. He didn't sing slow melodical songs. But what he actually sang was perfect. I appreciated Steve Morse - the guitar. The guy is very skilfull and the rest were up to the mark. As a result I went and bought all their old CDs. And only now did i manage to get out of Deep Purple a little. I got carried away. The Queen concert and the DP concert are different. Queen is more diverse and touches heart. Besides Queen sang for 2.15 hours plus 15 minutes. DP - for 1.30 hours plus 15 minutes. The guys were tired in the end. maybe such hard rock takes more energy, maybe they are older...But i did feel it was not enough... But no doubt I am happy that I attended the concert! |

april how many people was at that DP concert you were atteneding? was it sold out? i have some footage of them from russia a couple years ago from some stadium and it was far from being sold out, i would say it was half full |

The side seats at the stadium (on the left and on the right) are not sold. So all the front seats were sold out, not a single left. I was practically one of the last to buy the tickets, and even at this stage they hardly found 2 decent seats for me. So it was full house! Have you attended any of their concerts? |
