will this election ever end? as the answer appears to be 'no' i thought i'd ask our colonial cousins how they think it will conclude... will that nice young Barry O'Bama win? or will it be the old boy with the lipstick wearing pet rotweiller ? [thats a dry joke btw for all our republican friends] also, how does the rest of the world feel about this election? have you had enough of turning on your tv or radio in a far distant land and finding that the only thing being spoking about is an election 1000's of miles away? some nice political views here would be welcome instead of just bear baiting. |

Personally the only thing that's annoying me is constantly being told (by people from the US) that we aren't allowed an opinion on the outcome. At first glance I'd say I really prefer that Obama wins. Of course, here on the other end of the world (and having the cynical view of politicians that I have) it could all be a clever ruse and he might be the worst thing to ever happen to the USA. I can't imagine anyone with much sense voting McCain *based on what I've heard him say*. If I've missed something (again, from being in Australia where the coverage isn't quite 24/7...) then someone can set me straight. From the debate that I watched, from the incoherent ramblings of Palin, I wouldn't vote for them if I had a gun to my head - and thankfully, I don't have to! Ha-ha. When all is said and done, even if Obama were some kind of modern day superhero that some bizarre folks make him out to be, it's not like he'd be able to 'change' all that much. Too many people are too invested in the way things work these days. That being the case, I hope he wins anyway; just to see a bunch of hicks crying. |

Personally, I don't think we consider the opinions of others enough. Yes, it's 'our' country, but we've alienated much of the world and, without friends, what's the point and probability? I see McCain as an angry man with unpredictable responses. I see Palin as a hockey-moron, an idiot with growing power. We've already seen the 'idiot with power' scenario and it didn't work well for us or the rest of the world. I see Obama as a charmer. I don't know how sincere he is, but his speeches cover all the topics that concern or interest me, and his way of speaking makes me want to listen. We need that in a president if we're going to repair relationships around the world. And I wonder if race won't be the difference in this after all. Won't a man who has overcome the adversities of African Americans be looked at with hope and admiration? I see Biden as a trustworthy - if not sometimes foot-in-mouth - man with experience. If heaven forbid, something should happen to Obama (which is a scenario that terrifies me), I wouldn't mind Biden stepping up from VP to President. |
thomasquinn 32989 30.10.2008 08:03 |
An Obama presidency would be particularly good for American foreign affairs, as McCain a) is as undiplomatic as a berserker b) is obsessed with old enmities (Russia is by definition wrong, even if Georgia attacks them; Terrorists (defined as all those who are Asian and are not subservient to the US) should be killed, not negotiated with; the Vietnam war could've been won, and I wouldn't put it past him to try and prove it). As for his plans, I think Obama has the more effective way of dealing with current issues like healthcare and education. However, the only way the democrats will be able to work them all to a useful extent is if they score a landslide victory in House and Senate as well as winning the presidency, because the republicans would spend at least the first year blocking everything the democrats tried out of sheer spite. |

Any hope McCain had of getting my vote went away when he chose Palin as his running mate. I am a very middle of the road person and have traditionally voted Republican but the issues have changed now, what is important has changed, I'm no longer voting on what is most important to "me" anymore. I am basing my choice more on future events and how we have gotten ourselves in the situation we are in now. If the polls are any indication of who will win and if people don't change their minds when they are in the booth then Obama will win. He's very far ahead. Maybe change will come. I do hope so. I would rather Obama be VP and Biden be President though. |

I don't really have any friends in the US but my sister has a dozen or more, and what worries me is that most people base their votes for McCain on fear. The scare mongering I'm hearing about; I can only hope some of it's ficticious! And as for the racism ... I was expecting it, but nothing like the amount that's going on. We can't be naive; if a black guy goes for President you're going to get wisecracks from someone. I was watching people doing early voting on the telly and they were wishing death on Obama. *death*!?!??! What country is this election taking place in, again? Nobody has to wish death on Palin. She's brain-dead already...... |

I wonder if for once they consider those Bible passages where Jesus speaks about "loving our enemies" and "turning the other cheek"? Ugh, I'm irritated by these African American kids who come to my school with t-shirts on that say "YES WE CAN" and "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN" and "PRO-BAMA" (Yes, there was a prick who made a shirt that said that and wore it to school with great pride) but if asked why they like/support Obama, they give this answer: "He's going to be the first black president!" Oh, really? Last time I checked Barack Obama was only half-black. I don't really support Republicans or Democrats, but I find myself wanting McCain to win just because (some of) Obama's supporters are so obnoxious. I know that's shallow, but it's honestly how I see it. My Mum's "friend" recently sent out to ALL of her e-mail contacts this horribly worded, three paragraph atrocity full of spelling errors and grammatical no-no's about how she had had an epiphany and realised how much she wanted Obama to win, and went on and on about how he was the hope and future of America and he'd bring change and all this bullshit. Come on. That's just shoving your beliefs down someone's throat at its finest. She mentioned how her husband, for the first time, wanted to vote because this election and the prospect of Obama's presidency excited him so. Tell us, do we fucking care about your husband voting for the first time? No, we do not. If anything, her husband is an idiot because he should have voted in all the other elections anyway--If everyone in America waited until the election that had a candidate that made them start shitting their pants and bouncing up and down in their chairs shouting "I LOOOOVE THIS CANDIDATE" then that would just be ridiculous and hardly anyone would vote. Nevertheless I'd like for the Wednesday of next week to come--It's awfully interesting, I'd like to see who wins. Shame that it was at the same time as the World Series; everyone seems preoccupied with the election instead. XD |

The process and methods of campaigning are pretty strange and it takes a certain personality to get up there and make a speech and just stick to one side of an argument. They are using half-truths to get the crowd all fired up it seems (done on both sides). They promise things they cannot deliver, play dirty tricks, and then expect us to like them. Oh, well. I'm disappointed in both sides at this point, because they are treating us like we are stupid. Obama is speaking with a fake accent (depending on which state he is in) and McCain is using Joe the Plumber in all his speeches. Palin says that the Democrats don't want to drill for oil, but that is probably not all the way true. Apparently, Biden is too loose with the things he is saying. If it weren't so bad, there wouldn't be so many great skits on Saturday Night Live. So ... whoever wins, I'll be happy. Ha. At least it will be over and then they will have to get to work. |

Obama will win, McCain can't win even with fundraisers hosted by Rothschilds. McCain simply doesn't have the political allies to get a legislative agenda to produce results. Nor does he have enough support among business & industry types to generate the media momentum. Both houses of the Congress will be controlled by the Democrats, because a complete course correction is necessary, to prevent the kind of implosion seen in American auto makers and the financial services industry from becoming widespread in the military-industrial complex. It's the only tool left in this overextended empire keeping us globally relevant because the foreign aid carrot always comes with the whiff of a big stick. The politics of Harry Truman are passe' -- Eisenhower is the one we should have been studying in 1999-2000, and it doesn't take a renegade archaeologist in a fedora and snapping a bullwhip to keep it real nine years later. I certainly agree that a Vietnam veteran should be president one day, but McCain is not the one. Neither is it accurate to suggest Obama is a blank slate. The real concern in this election, imho, is the inaccuracy of the touch-insensitive Ivotronic voting machine. Use a stylus, and if possible, get your own receipt with a camera phone. Thanks Joxer! Oh, really? Last time I checked Barack Obama was only half-black. I don't really support Republicans or Democrats, but I find myself wanting McCain to win just because (some of) Obama's supporters are so obnoxious. There's obnoxious people on both sides. Chances are that if you live in an urban area from a blue state, it's very likely that you will find obnoxious Obama supporters. Some Blacks will boast about having the "first black president" forgetting that more whites than black will be voting for Obama. They will be disappointed when they find that Obama is not Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. If you live in a rather rural conservative state, then you'll hear obnoxious McCain supporters calling Obama a "terrorist" and an "anti-American", just to mention a few. Even Joe The Plumber, who became the poster boy of McCain's campaign to describe an average American and how small businesses will be affected by Obama's policies, came across as an extremist when he mentioned how Obama will "bring death to Israel". |

Few days ago I saw this guy on the news who said that he supports democrats but this time he's going to vote for republicans. Journalist asked him why and he said; "Because I hate niggers, is that good enough reason?". Now, he may be a racist and redneck but I do appreciate his honesty. There are some black people who are voting for Obama and are talking about changes, freedom, how they want the best for their country but the real truth is that they are voting for him just because he is black (actually half black). Now what annoys me is the thing that some people will point their fingers on that redneck and say "Racist!", while nobody will say anything about those other people. |

I'm a registered Democrat, and I have to say that I have deep admiration for John McCain. I certainly do not agree with a lot of his views, but his speech showed that the man has class and integrity. Sadly, chances are that he'd never be president, and while I'm not particularly sure if he'd do a good job, he sure should have deserved the chance to be in the White House a lot more than George W Bush, who pretty much ruined the country in 8 years. John McCain was not afraid to point out things he didn't like about his own party, and to even denounce the dangers of leaning too far to the right. McCain certainly made mistakes to not show disloyalty to his own party, but I admire his capacity to reach across the aisle and get both parties together instead of turning congress into a tug of war. 4 years ago when Kerry lost, he told Bush that the country was too divided, and while Bush acknowledged the fact, things only went by the same path or got even worse. I certainly hope that Obama is able to bring the country together, and he's able to listen to Democrats and Republicans alike regardless of whether they agree with him or not. We spent 8 years with possibly the worst president this country has ever had. Someone who leaned to an extreme of the political spectrum and only listened to those who agree with whatever he had to say. It was time to bring things to the center and being able to agree to disagree, and put things on a common ground |

While Bush is ignorant and loves himself way to much, McCain is a man with a heart combined with brains as well. Still I'm really glad to see Obama as the new president of the US. Not only because he's a Democrat, not only because he's black and shows that race is from less importance as it has been in the past, but mostly because he's a pleasant guy who’s willing to talk with and listen to everyone. He's going to open new doors for Europe and the rest of the world. That's what we need. We need to cooperate, and together we're able to make everything work. I can't believe they elected a MUSLIM in to the *white, BLACK HOUSE and on top of that, he's a goddamn ni.. ni.. NIMROD! yeah that's the word I was looking for... I saw a tv documentary about the US elections on Monday, where this Finnish journalist had gone into several small towns in the US and asked all sides about their view on the candidates, from truckers to college students. Surprisingly many young rural people said they'd never let a Muslim (Obama) in the white house, since it was Muslims who attacked U.S on 9/11... Great logic, great intellect. Seriously, glad Obama won. In my wildest dreams Americans would have elected Cynthia McKinney, but I guess that'll never happen in their form of de-mock-racy. Wouldn't it have been funny, if before his victory speech, Obama would have tossed out a prayer mat on stage and asked someone which way Mecca is... then prayed for a while infront of a crowd paralysed in terror, just to stop and go "GOTCHA!" at everyone. |

Donna13's reply: TM is so unique. There might be a possibility that he will either be working for the CIA on top secret projects that require him to go undercover as a Queenzoner, interacting with dangerous international types while pretending to be stupid, or he will be used by those that have the power behind the curtain to slowly torture enemies by just writing messages to them as their only form of social contact until they become so aggravated that they finally spill the beans (enemy secret types of things). You did know that he was being tested here, didn't you? That's right, the people in power are always on the lookout for such talent. It's obvious that you've never been within a mile of a university. There are very few courses in which you passively learn what you are told, as is the case with high school. A university education is based around performing your own research, in which you rely on nothing so much as your own common sense. |

"own research" you are full of shit! they all get books and absorb the info from the lectures and then spit it out on the exam paper, the "research" they do now and then is from BOOKS again meaning they themselves havent done shit! they just repeat the info from those books.
