Who has been the greatest live act ever? The Stones, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Queen, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Nirvana or someone else? This Day in Music have just started a poll to find out. If you fancy voting for who you think should win go to link You can vote for any act, just go to 'other' on the list. |

I sincerely believe it was Queen. I think there can't be any other opinions. |

Queen! At live at the bowl especially |

I'm going to commit sacrilege here and say Floyd. Their 1969 Royal Albert Hall show practically invented the eclectic set designs bands would later copy, not to mention their use of a gorilla firing a cannon and a massive pink smoke bomb to herald the entry of pyrotechnics into the concert arena. Granted, the band's later live work (Gilmour-only period, think P*U*L*S*E) was lacking in engaging set design and special effects, but their pioneering 1970s act really laid the foundation that other bands (Queen among them) would build upon. |
redspecialusa 18.10.2008 01:29 |
I'm surprised The Who aren't included among the groups you could vote for. On a personal note, being biased...of course I think and will vote that Queen is the greatest. |

Have to agree with you. The Floyd were always great in terms of live shows. I read that they even performed the whole Piper At The Gates Of Dawn album in 1967 (with Syd). That must have been a blast! |

The Who... that was THE live band in the 60's and 70's... |

I'm voting for EVERYONE, apart from the shitty people. |
Saif 18.10.2008 12:57 |
That poll sucks because The Who are not listed. I guess Queen are the best band live...but I've never seen them in person, mind you. After that, I'd say the Who, followed by Led Zeppelin and then Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. |
Sunshine__123456 18.10.2008 13:06 |
My top 3: 1: Queen 2: Aerosmith 3: Led Zeppelin |
The Exhibitionist 18.10.2008 13:51 |
Thunderbolt is correct here, with Pink Floyd laying down the foundation for magnificent live acts, but I sincerely believe that Queen used that foundation and took it farther, so I will say, I truly believe it was Queen. By the way, i'm listening to Live at the Bowl right now. "Somebody to Love" is my favourite song from that concert. Amazing. |

Thats pretty obvious isnt it, of course its QUEEN, the others are just garbage in comparision, both in music, live performance, singing etc |

The Who. As Roger Taylor put it a few years ago; "Where the fuck were the Who?" They would definitely get my vote, for a good chunk of the stuff I've heard from 69-75. The Who gain favour with me for the same reason that Queen do - there's 4 guys, one of whom is just a singer most of the time, but they deliver a very broad sound, simply because they know their instruments and play them like mother-fuckers. The Who win for me though because (in their most active moments, at least) they were crazier. Brian, I love you, but I've never seen you headbutt a Gibson and then throw it at a cymbal. I guess any tool in the 8-12 age bracket would probably have a problem with anybody choosing The Who over Queen, but fuck 'em. Just because I perceive them to have an edge doesn't mean I'm not in awe of at least ten other bands' live acts. Although I am sick of people trying to turn me onto Muse. Yawn. |

The Who, no doubt about it. Saw 'em in 2000, 2002, 2006 (twice), and will be seeing them next Sunday. Those old fuckers still know how to rock. |

Actually I'm changing my vote. Fuck The Who, and fuck you Pete Townshend for not coming to Australia. Hell since my city (Perth) is such a shithole (it is), go and do Melbourne if you have to - I will go into debt to cross the country and see you. You hear that, cunt?? 3000km, but I'll do it, so hurry the fuck up and tour this place before you croak. It'll be my first rock and roll road trip. Wooooooooo. |

Queen #1 of course. Other than that the best shows I've ever personally seen were Bruce Springsteen, ACDC, Lindsey Buckingham, David Lee Roth (in his prime with Steve Vai), Pink Floyd, Extreme, John Cale |

I voted for Queen too but never actually saw the original line up in person. Of what I have seen in person(obviously not counting QPR) I'd say Meatloaf, Fleetwood Mac, Guns N Roses and Oasis put on pretty great shows. |
Sheer Brass Neck 22.10.2008 18:29 |
IMHO, Queen, but 70s Queen up to the Jazz tour. When they were a four part rock band and the set was filled with rockers like It's Late, Jailhouse Rock, SHA, Ogre Battle, Lia, TYMD and WWRY fast version, they fucking smoked. They understood how to work a stadium crowd to perfection by the Magic Tour, but apart from a band sounding tight and raw, they could stand up to Aerosmith or The Who in their day for heaviness and great musicianship. |

It's obviously all opinion and pointless to debate in masses, but I think Queen has one significant unbiased argument in that the biggest gathering probably ever for major live acts was Live Aid, and Queen has been typically documented with Live Aid as the band that whipped everyone else in dominating a live performance with pure greatness and really showing just how incredible Queen was as a live act. I think Freddie or Elvis would be considered the ultimate front man/rock star, and Brian's massive Red Special sound and volume, mixed with Taylor's A list drums, and all those vocals doing all those hits year after year, tour after tour, it all combined to make them truly tower over all others for me. Today seems to be no different in that they still are the best. Even without Freddie's presence, the Queen legacy remains superior just as a major rock event. That being said Led Zeppelin improvised into some wild stuff, The Rolling Stones have certainly been the longest lasting and best money making tour group, and bands like Adam Ant and Living Colour still sound better live than on album even, and there is always Van Halen. Queen's simply the one with the Live Aid scene stealer, the Brighton Rock evolution taking the same solo and changing it slightly every tour and complaining for me is only now that it's shortened a little bit, and the band's song 'Love of My Life', a song pretty much 95% or more of their shows all over the world have audiences that unite to give a massive chorus to EVERY word in it. Zeppelin has their concerts of fame, but they lack the Queen level for my tastes. |
