Not even a new president can save your fat asses. You're so much in debt it's hilarious. Your sorrow is my happiness. No one wants you. LOL.Holy shit, we have a psycho on our hands. Most intelligent people in the USA (no insult to the economically inept) knew that the economy was heading in the wrong direction. It was only a matter of time before it reached this point. As far as the US being "dead", no, we're perfectly healthy (cholesterol levels may be a little high), and I hope you realize the effect our economic recession will have on your market. Not that I want to contribute to the sickening amount of arrogance that comes from the US, it's just a fact. The world market is feeling the pain. So fuck off with your anti-US sentiment. We may be a little fucked up, but we're not all that bad. You, on the other hand, are extremely fucked up to feel an entire country's sorrow is your happiness, just on the basis of someone feeling that their country is better than yours. So, when the US economy bounces back, I hope you'll be as miserable as ever, sitting in your corner of the universe, grumbling about how the US is doomed to fail. And hey, if the US does in fact crumble to dust from this economic crisis (unlikely, to say the least) I may be joining you in Canada. *Awaiting response of American scum polluting Canada, and how you would never allow an American 2 feet away from you from fear of contagious american cooties* |

Douche. I don't get the economy...It's frustrating, so if someone can break it down in real simple terms that would be great! But if your name is TM or Jake, don't explain this please.... I can't explain the entire credit crisis to you right now, but I assure you that Bush had little to nothing to do with the current credit crisis, regardless how much you or I dislike him. Here's a brief synopsis: It all started with federal guarantees of mortgages through GSEs like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. As a result, a moral hazard was created for providing loans to people who should not have gotten them (i.e. subprime lending). This increased the demand for houses, as people who ordinarily could not afford to buy houses began buying them. As demand increases, so do prices - and if prices had continued to climb, subprime borrowers might have been able to refinance their loans, and come out unscathed. Obviously, this could not continue indefinitely, and after prices began to fall, borrowers began defaulting on their loans. Lenders then sold off their loans to companies like Fannie and Freddie, who securitized them as mortgage backed securities and collateralized debt obligations. Essentially, for the sake of simplification, these are like bonds whose payments are funded by mortgage payments. If mortgage payments default, it inhibits cash flows to the CDOs. Even though these securities were backed by unsafe subprime loans, they were given unreasonably (in hindsight) high ratings, and were bought by companies like Merrill, Lehman, and Stearns. Now, what this does is takes the risk that mortgage lenders take on as lenders, and passes it off to investors. Therefore, mortgage companies had an incentive to make bad loans, and pass them off to investors. Investors had an incentive to buy mortgage securities because the government was guaranteeing them. The result is the massive shitfest we are in now. I hope that all made sense. I took a very complicated and confusing issue and simplified it greatly, and I may have even accidentally missed or misrepresented a few, possibly important, steps. However, this is the best I have for you at the moment. |

I hope Bush won't read this... it might give him some ideas. Seriously, America has been living on a big bell of air the past few years. They kept lending more and more money, and now they're running against the wall. It's partly Bush his fault, but the businesses who took such high risks are just as guilty. Now the whole world falls together with the US economy. What I don't understand... The Republicans made a plan to reduce the problems and even though it's made by Republicans, the Democrats support the plan. But now some Republicans in the Senate voted against the plan? By that they're not tackling the recovery of Woldwide economy, but they're tackling McCain as well. Not that I mind, but I just can't understand them. |

I doubt it; today their Congress didn't accept program of possible reconstruction. This kind of thing affects not just America but the rest of the world. If America falls the others will also and that's the most tragical thing. For example, if America's power of buying starts to fade they will stop buying many European products such as cars and then those car corporations will need to slice their loss by firing their workers, causing the fall of middle class standard which means that people could not spend as much as they did before. If that happens, many of them will stop taking holidays in my homeland which can cause total collapse of our tourism. So we have it, country by country loses it's power of buying which means they are going to stop bringing products from abroad. Those products could be products of your country, my country, it isn't important anymore. It's like butterfly effect. |

StoneColdClassicQueen wrote: my history teacher told me it's mainly Bush's fault. Douche. Actually, that's your History teacher playing politics, which no teacher should ever do... but apparently he's got an agenda. The problems with the Mortgage Industry started before Bush was elected. I've been in the business for nearly 15 years now. I watched people who had no business getting mortgages... getting mortgages. Government guidelines in place allowed for sub-prime credit scores, stated income, and Adjustable Rate Mortgages that were guaranteed to spike up to 5%. All of this supported fully by Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve. (The guy that controls the interest rate). Alan was appointed in 1987 by the Reagan adminstration... not George Bush. But Alan wasn't a complete failure. If you remember the stock market crash in 1987, then you remember how quickly we recovered, thanks in big part to Greenspan's aggressive decisions and policies instituted then. We pretty much gave him free reign for the next 20 years. So blaming Bush for the housing bubble, which started this whole colapse, is about as pointless as blaming the Democrats or the Republicans for not getting something going now. It's not one guy's fault. The House and Senate are both controlled by the Democrats. The executive branch is controlled by the Republicans. BOTH sides are going to have to compromise to make this work, finger pointing does nothing but drive home the painfully clear fact that politics, once again, is being used to make decisions that affect the entire world. The good news? Stock market is up 280 points already this morning after the 777 point plunge yesterday. But this is going to take some time for things to get back to normal. Obama elected or McCain elected isn't going to magically solve the problem. |
Music Man 30.09.2008 14:47 |
Microwave is right - especially about the teacher, what a cock. However, the major reason why subprime lending came to be is because (unregulated) mortgage lenders were able to make bad loans to homeowners who didn't know any better and immediately pass off the risk to investors who didn't know any better. A major contributing factor was the government's federal guarantees in the secondary mortgage market. When you hear about people talking about moral hazard, this is it - to the max. |

Please, if you won't explain something to me in a way that actually makes sense, then don't bother responding.Treasure Moment wrote:I don't know about you guys, but not only I would love to see these two pin-headed assholes getting into argument, but I would also love to see them into a cage to death.StoneColdClassicQueen wrote: I'm worried about this. I don't understand about half of it (yeah, try explaining the basics of the stock market to a 5th grader, I was forced to learn this....stupid gifted program) but my history teacher told me it's mainly Bush's fault. Douche. I don't get the economy...It's frustrating, so if someone can break it down in real simple terms that would be great! But if your name is TM or Jake, don't explain this please....you are just sloooow, you dont get the whole picture, new world order is on its way and you wont realize it before its too late and people who keep denying it deserve whats coming. I'm doing my best to 'get' this but I can't seem to... that 777 point plunge the other day... wasn't that simply a knee-jerk reaction, an example of mass hysteria? Or more accurately, an example of why this country is in the shape it's in financially... because we're stupid when it comes to finances? It seems like lenders AND (many of the) borrowers are to blame for the mess here. More and more Americans live on credit. It's not because they have to, so much as because there seems to be little to no self-control. They want bigger houses, newer cars, flat screen TVs and all the latest i-gadgets. I might be terribly wrong about this, and please tell me if I am, but it does seem like the big-wigs were taking advantage of a massive flaw in American thinking - that we're entitled, we can have whatever we want and we'll over-extend ourselves to get it. I know we can't educate society on personal accountability but I do think the pundits on TV should address this as the cause as much as they're addressing others as the cause - and no, I don't blame Bush. I think he's a blind and arrogant idiot who refused to acknowledge the financial wound before it turned all-consuming but I don't think the problem itself rests solely on him. That said, any 'solution' touted by him to be worthy of implementation must not be implemented without heavy and strict review and oversight. And I guess that begs the question - just who will review and oversee it? We're royally screwed, aren't we. :-( |

I don't think we're screwed, no. But I do think we're in for one hell of a reform! The Senate plans to vote today and then turn it over to the House. From what I've heard and watched, I don't see this gaining any ground. Everyone thinks we're giving Paulson a $700 Billion Dollar cheque. Or that we're buying failing banks with no recourse. The problem really is that the common-worker doesn't understand all this because it really hasn't been explained fully. There's no PR. All the public is getting is political rhetoric, not answers. But I do think the common sense will kick in, hopefully sooner than later. Small businesses aren't going to be able to apply for credit, because there's no funding there. How will they pay their employees, their suppliers? Same with the new home builders. The people that hammer the nails, cut the lumber, these are the ones that are already feeling it and it's only going to snowball. |
