The Beatles' music has stood the test of time for over 40 years now, and so has Queen's in the last 30 or something. They have as much of a chance to be remembered in 100 years time. That's what classic radio is for. You might think Queen is more "current" or "hip" or that their music hasn't aged as much as the Beatles but that is only because you are heavily biased. You are jealous of the Beatles' fame. You wish Queen were recognized more than them, you wish that it was mandatory for the schools to have the children sing We Are The Champions instead of the National Anthem. But that is not the real world. The Beatles, along with George Martin, produced classic albums that will be forever considered the highlight of 20th Century Music. I want to think that Queen had more impact in the music world, society, pop culture, etc., but they didn't. I know I like Queen better, but that's my personal taste. |

Once this generation dies out (the beatles generation) nobody will care about the Beatles. They are totally overrated. Do you see YOUNG people listening to Beatles? Hell no. Their music sucks balls. Do you see YOUNG people listening to Queen? Hell yes. Their legend grows by the day. The only reason the Beatles are this popular is they are attached to the 60s Era. Their sucky music helped to define an era. Technically, and artistically, the Beatles are a very average and boring band. In 100 years, NOBODY will care about the Beatles except as some historical reference. However, in 100 years, Queen music will STILL be listened and ENJOYED. They are gods in Rock Music. That's the key. ENJOY. Queen Music = Enjoyed by everyone. Beatles = popular but their music is not enjoyable. It just brings back memories for Old people about their 60s decade. NOSTALGIA. Actually, I always felt sorry for Fred in that particular moment. He wanted to be part of that moment, because he knew it was something very special, and it almost seemed like he was trying too hard. Obviously, Queen were the best performers that day. They played the hits and Freddie out-Freddied himself. Iconic moment, the Queen set. Still, he had nothing to do performing "Do They Know it's Christmas" (by the way, the only song that got THE WHOLE STADIUM jumping up and down). He was just part of the ensemble. Did you expect anyone to care for him at that moment? The world didn't revolt around Freddie at that time, like it doesn't right now. You can't really believe Paul McCartney felt jealous at Freddie. Queen had performed many hours before, Paul had just pretty much closed the show with "Let it be" (if I recall correctly). Paul McCartney, however a dick we all know he is, has nothing to envy Freddie and/or Queen: He had (and has) more money than all Queen member put together, his songs have been played more than any other artist's in the world (Yesterday has been covered over 2000 times), he is considered by many people as the best pop songwriter of all times, he broke all barriers in music with the Beatles. Nobody ever got to be as big as The Beatles and I don't think anybody will every be. Well, maybe Elvis was as big as them. Even if I don't know a lot of his songs. |

I think some of you don't realise that this is the edited version of the show. If, like me, you saw it live on the BBC you'll know that Fred got so pissed off with McCartney's bogarting that he stormed off stage, returning a few moments later on the shoulders of Darth Vadar. They pushed through the ensembled musicians whereupon Freddie began to pummel McCartney with a 21 inch extendable baton. This was a huge embarrasment to Live Aid plc and all mention of it has been banned at the insistance of Geldof's lawyers. All footage has been destroyed and we see now only a highly edited version of the finale, minus the beating, the ambulance that arrived 20 minutes later, and Fred's arrest by the two policemen that introduced Queen onstage earlier in the evening. Fred was sentenced to 200 hours community service, which he spent picking up litter in Kensington park. True story. |

Of course most of us know that everything happened the way you mention, EXCEPT that Freddie actually killed Paul McCartney #2 because we all know the original Paul died in the 60's. Current Paul version is Macca 3.1 as he had a minor fix when he twisted an ankle back on '89. |

Paul McCartney bought a hole in the ceiling of Alexandra Palace from Queen. I guess Penny Lane intersects with Brass Alley! |

Well, to tell the truth I don't like Paul McCartney very much as a person. He really is arrogant, materialistic and wants to the BIG man everywhere, making others do certain things he likes. So, no wonder, he elbowed his way to the fore trying to upstage other singers. Yes, he nearly hit Freddie. I don't like it. |

I don't like it.I don't like his personality either and I'm sure he's an attention whore, but one thing I can't deny is his ability pull great melodies and pop tunes out of his ass. Hey Jude, Let it Be, Penny Lane, With a little help from my friends, We can work it out, etc. I could go on all day... well, not all day but maybe 10 minutes or something. |

However, i've discussed him so much that i'm kind of an expert on his personality. It was George Harrison who said after the Beatles' breakup that he could join a band with John Lennon any time, but he would never join a band with Macca. Evidently for him it had been enough. Nevertheless, Macca's songs are masterpieces, take the greatest one - Yesterday. Again, in this video he is thinking only about himself ignoring the fact that there are other singers standing beside him. But, no, he believes he should be singing right in front of the mike, Freddie can be pushed aside... |

No one knows what hes like apart from his family and friends. And it doesnt matter one yota. I wonder where all this Beatles-trashing came from really?? |

George Harrison's words about Macca are taken from the book called The Rough Guide to the Beatles. It is very accurate and well-grounded.I didn't make them up. Besides, some people consider it interesting to unveil the myths of celebrities, who certainly had some failings. But you are right it all doesn't matter, what matters is the music. |

April wrote: i've discussed him so much that i'm kind of an expert on his personality.Yeah ohm, no. You can only be as much as an expert as anyone else with a few books on the subject... which really doesn't make you (or I) an expert. I could rattle off a dozen stories about McCartney to create a desired impression, and I could cite which books I got them from, but I'm still only quoting books. I have no problem accepting that the Beatles had to be assholes to get where they did (Lennon said it himself perfectly...) but threads like this really, really amuse me - particularly when anyone can wonder in and be 'an expert'. As I understand it, there'd only be a couple of actual experts on Beatle Paul left... as for the 'other' Paul, I guess you'd have to ask his family. |

You're an expert because you've discussed him and read a quote? Wow, I guess that makes me an expert on quantum physics and brain surgery! From what I've read, Paul seems very human. Errs and graces, like us all. Go read about where the song Hey Jude came from and tell me that this man didn't have a heart. Of course, you being an expert and all, I'm sure you already know the story. And Harrison? You never would have heard of him if it wasn't for Macca. |

Your comparison of reading biographies to reading physics doen't hold water. reading physics require special skills.April wrote:However, i've discussed him so much that i'm kind of an expert on his personality. Certainly i know the story about Hey, JULE. Hope you understand why I wrote JULE, not JUDE? Or I will be disappointed with you. I know it all, baby. How could Macca with a loving heart have abandoned Beatrice? Very human, indeed. Surely when a father lives separately from his child he doesn't see the child very often, taking into consideration that Bea lives in the USA and Macca in London. What concerns George, we would have known much more about him if it hadn't been for Macca, who didn't let him have his songs recorded when in the Beatles. George said:"You'd have to do 59 of Paul's songs to have one of mine compositions heard by the group". That's it, baby. |
