Well, the time has come when my own personal career of a Queen fan of over 20 years has ended. I have never hidden the fact that Freddie was my favorite band member, though also the source of a lot of suffering prior and after he has left us. For those who might ask why "prior" - because I was born and grew up in the former Eastern block - under the communistic regime, when you NEVER KNEW IF you'd be able ever to hear The Works but at the same time you were as happy as a small child just because somebody somehow smuggled The Bravo Magazine, which said that they were recording it. And because you knew you would never be able to attend a concert as this is "retrograde" and your mam and dad would simply disappear if you'd do this even if you could. Well, Freddie is gone now. Queen -too. There is Queen+Paul Rodgers now, which is something very different as a sound, stage presence and aesthetics. However for those ready to attack -"Yet, it's Queen" I'd just suggest them to rewind ANY Queen concert prior Freddie's death to READ that "Queen are: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon" End of story. I don't want to argue. Queen fan? Not anymore. Freddie fan? Always, and by God I know how to be one because he keeps inspiring me after all this time (even without the necessary new material required to keep the business running). Something that the trio just failed to do. |

If you truly respected Queen and what they did, then instead of selling your crap for money that you'll just spend like the rest of it, you should give away your Queen collection to the Queenzone community... where it will be appreciated and not just bartered upon. Please list your items and we will treat it as a first come first served basis. Limit of 2 items per member so no one gets too greedy. I would like to request your WWRY Toothbrush and your Greg Brooks book. Thanks. (Unless you just wanted to start your own "I hate what Paul is doing to Brian and Roger" thread.) |

It is Queen. One guy died, the other quit the band. It's not as if Freddie were alive and forbidding the guys to carry on with the band without him. He's dead. The other cat quit the band, and now they have all the right to carry on the legacy the way they want - with Mickey Mouse or Paul Rodgers as a singer. |

Lady Sonnet, you survived through the communist era, you managed to get hold of Queen records when you lived in the socialist state and when it was next to impossible to find them. You were a true Queen fan. And now what has happened to you? Has freedom destroyed your love? Are you a natural-born gutter fighter for whom freedom means the end of a fighting career? The two guys continue singing Queen songs as well. And who else could do it better than they? Maybe you have some other candidates in view? Mika, for example, some people compare him to Queen...Or maybe you'd rather they kept silent forever. "Stay home, Brian and Roger, I don't like live music, besides, I prefer old records..." So, stay home yourself and enjoy the good old days. And we will move on with love for Queen, Freddie, and for the new Queen! Long Live Queen!!! |

**NEWS FLASH** Brian May (61), physicist and performer best known as lead guitarist with Queen, said he was "shocked and disturbed" that LadySonnet's career as a Queen fan has come to an abrupt end. "It was so serious for her", May said, "if we knew, we'd give up music and move into used car business. After all, music was never a career for us in the sense fandom was a career for her." "It's all so meaningless now", adds visibly shaken Roger Taylor (59), the drummer with the band. "The day that music died. I'm throwing in the towel - well, my drums." Around the world, LadySonnet's shocking decision was a signal for Queen - and Q+PR - fans to cease their appreciation of the band's music. In support of unfortunate LadySonnet, the monarch of the United Kingdom abdicated today, saying she "no longer wish[es] to bear the title reminiscent of the band that put an end to such a promising fan's career." "The loss of LadySonnet is a deathblow to Queen", said Sir Elton John (61) at a press conference yesterday, presenting his new single "End of a Career", written especially to commemorate this tragic event. We exclusively bring you the lyrics to the ballad: ** She knew how to be a Freddie fan But now she follows a different plan A shining career came to an end Cos Roger and Brian play in a band Queen and Paul Rodgers cut her like a knife LadySonnet lost the meaning of her life If the guys knew of the tears she shed They'd bury themselves alongside with Fred |

Paul is one of the greatest blues/rock singers ever so I think you're being unfair to him Tre Mom. Is he to be ridiculed for interpreting Queen songs his way when surely people would want to lynch him for trying to 'do a Freddie'. As for the Queen sound, it's there, you can hear it on the album but it's not just them this time. I know it's all down to personal taste but I really can't understand this obvious hatred for what they are doing. It's their right. We all love and miss Freddie but life and thankfully music goes on. Brian and Roger started this ball rolling all those years ago with a note on a noticeboard, I think they have the right to take it wherever they want to. |

LadySonnet, I am from Romania, which was also in the Eastern Block and I honestly don't believe at all the crap you are telling about everyday life in a communist country during the 80s!! How can you say that your mom and dad would disappear if you listened to Queen?! That probably would have been true in the 60s, but not in the 80s anymore! During the 80s, the communist countries were no longer ruled by fear and there were no atrocities like those that happened during the 60s. I agree that rock music wasn't exactly the favorite music of the communist regime. But nevertheless, Bulgarian record company Balkanton released a Bulgarian version of some Queen albums. I should know it. I have a Bulgarian Greatest Hits I vynil (I also have a Russian one too, by the way). While these records weren't exactly showed to customers on the counter, many people bought them from the local music stores. Of course, you had to be very fast, because there weren't so many records and many many people wanted to buy them. It's true that there weren't as many records available as there were in the Western countries, but "less" is VERY different than "none". After the fall of the communism, many people have sold their records to second-hand stores. And so the Romanian second-hand vynil market was flooded with loads of rock records (Queen were the most popular it seems, the market was full of A Night At The Opera and The Game imported from EMI Gramophone Company Of India and Russian and Bulgarian Greatest Hits). Which is proof that people were able to buy those records from the communist stores and listen to them at home, without disappearing without trace. Other than that, Queen videos and live shows were sometimes broadcasted on the Romanian TV and there were some Romanian rock bands too. It seems the communists didn't care too much about them. I'm sick and tired of communist-haters in my country. I don't like communism (I'm a gay rights activist in my country and communism has been oppressing gay people, so I can't say I'm fond of it), but I don't like stupid communist-hating either. Hate is stupid in itself, no matter what one hates. And I'm sick and tired of the same old discussions about how crap Queen + PR is and how there is no Queen without Freddie. LadySonnet, why on earth do you believe that we give a damn on the end of your fabulous career?! Get a life, lady! Get a life all you people who keep on complaining about the new album, the new tour, the new everything! Don't listen to this music you hate so much and let live in peace those who like it! I have left this forum in 2005, because I was tired of all the negativism. Three years later, I visit the forum one more time and it looks like nothing has changed. The same negativism, the same words, everything is the same. The truth is Queen has changed now, has evolved into something else, as all living things do. But many of the fans are stuck in their own prejudices. No wonder they don't like Queen anymore. |
