link R.I.P. Good ol' Richard. |

I got an error while I was trying to post a topic last monday. RIP Richard, still hard to believe that he's gone. He made within PF some of the most atmospheric music with his piano and organ. He was very inspiring. |

I tried to start this thread just about once every half hour after finding out... a friend told me only about half an hour after the news broke. Sad stuff, really. He was great. |
Mr.Jingles 17.09.2008 09:20 |
Yeah, I remember trying too but it wouldn't let me. |

I tried to do it too, but it gave me an error message, so I just left a note on the Random Thoughts Thread. The dream of seeing a Pink Floyd reunion died with him. :( |

I tried as well... Wright is one of my favorite keyboardists. I was very sad to hear that he had died. |

I learned about it this evening. Very sad...We will miss you. |
Jjeroen 17.09.2008 17:22 |
Add me to the list of people that wanted to post this but wasn't able to... Very sad and totally unexpected loss... He was a unique talent and way underrated in terms of being responsible for the sound of the band. Forget Waters and Gilmour. When it comes to the charisteristic Pink Floyd sound, it was HIM! Rest in peace, maestro! |
DrummerBoy | MMVIII 17.09.2008 23:20 |
yes i agree with Jjeroen the pink floyd sound that i loved on dark side & wish you, was down to rick wright. a sad loss. |

Waters should have died, not Rick. RIP Rick! Cheers, Hor |

I was absolutely gutted when I heard this news on Monday. Made my day miserable from that day on, even at work.
Raf wrote: The dream of seeing a Pink Floyd reunion died with him. :(For once, I'll agree on something like this. There is no Pink Floyd anymore in my eyes, without Richard. He was essential to their sound on nearly every album, bar The Final Cut, he was on. I can understand if Roger, David and Nick will set aside their differences once more to play a tribute for Rick, but please don't call it Pink Floyd :-( |

Fair is fair. I would not say no to at least watching them play together together without Richard, but only in the context of a one-off - or even one song. I saw a video of Wright doing Arnold Layne or some such in tribute to Syd Barrett ages ago..... something like that would be acceptable. Hell, it's not like "Wish You Were Here" needs keyboards anyway. *dodges vegetables* |

Imagine if we'd all been able to post the initial thread ... there would've been something like a dozen threads about him! (I tried to start one too...) Pink Floyd was my first rock concert back in 1994, so this holds an extra air of poignancy and sadness for me. I'm at work now, rocking out to Animals, but I'm going to put on Wish You Were Here next. I think that might be Rick's most creative album, and the one he made a significant impact on. Just listen to both parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and tell me he wasn't amazing. Now if only I had his solo album, Broken China, at work. Sadly, I don't have his first (Wet Dream), but I knew he was working on a 3rd one, which will probably never be released now. Today, I'm going to musically send him off to the great gig in the sky. Rest in peace, Rick. |

I'll be half-serious here, but if Rick did manage to record enough material, perhaps the 3 surviving members could pull together to make a MIH-style last Pink Floyd album? :-P |

The best idea I can think of is a record company putting out a retrospective of his, with Wet Dream, Broken China, an album he did in the 80s as "Zee" (with another Rick ... can't remember his name), and the unfinished 3rd solo album. |

When the news broke of Wright's death, I was extremely shocked. No one knew that the 65 year old was even ill. I must confess that the way the media handled Rick's passing wasn't different than when he was alive. Not bad (mind you) but just overlooked. I saw Pink Floyd in 1994 in Foxboro (my third concert after The Who in 1989 and Rush in May, 1994) and they were phenomenal. David Gilmour has said "no one can replace Rick". Nick Mason said "I won't be polishing my drumsticks" and Roger Waters said "I wish there was more". Not going to happen now. Rick contributed alot between 1967 and 1975 (Piper, Saucerful, More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here) but then was muted for Animals, The Wall and Momentary Lapse (he wasn't on The Final Cut) before coming back with The Division Bell. 2008 sucked. I just got over Phil Collins announcing his retirement from music to be a full time dad to his two young sons in Switzerland (who knows how long he has left) therefore ending Genesis (the new box set for me is closure). Now Pink Floyd ends. Musical armageddon is here. |
