Letter to Paul
| mr.teatime 6803 15.09.2008 07:01 |
Hi all, At Queenonline forusm we've decided to send a letter to Paul thanking him for what he's doing. Basically I'm after a name if you're interested in being part of this - either post your name here or PM me here or on Queenonline if you want it kept private. Also possibly thinking of including the country each person is from, so you're welcome to let me know that too. Thanks :) Here it is: --- Dear Paul, This letter is sent on behalf of the undersigned members of the Queen internet fan communities at the official Queen website, Queenonline.com, and Queenzone.com. Our message is simple, so here goes: Thank You! We would like to thank you for your music, your voice, your energy, your positive attitude and everything else you bring to the QPR project. Whether it’s from your own back catalogue, the old Queen songs or the new material, you bring sparkle and life and soul to every song you perform. It is a privilege to watch and listen to you sing with Brian and Roger. Many of us have been Queen fans for decades; some are too young to have seen the band while Freddie was still alive. But whatever our individual backgrounds, those songs contain meaning for each of us that can be found in no other band’s material. We know the same holds true as regards your songs for all those who come to QPR as a fan of Free, Bad Company, The Firm, or your solo material. What we feel you bring to those Queen songs is new meaning; your take on them. The fact that you are able to do this so effortlessly and passionately, while also maintaining your own identity, is a tribute to you as a musician and person. Everyone who has signed this letter now considers themselves a Paul Rodgers fan - if they weren’t before - as well as a Queen fan. We go to the QPR shows looking forward to hearing your material as much as the Queen songs. Finally, the new album. It is fantastic, nodding to each of your pasts but focused on creating something positive and new. Your voice is phenomenal and Brian and Roger play as if they’re thirty years younger. You all should be very proud to have produced such exciting and soulful music and we all hope there is more to come. So, once again: thank you! Sincerely, --- What does everyone think of the jist? Anything I should add, remove, whatever? Anyway - let me know your name (and town/country if you want as well) if you want to be involved :) Thanks |
| Mr Mercury 15.09.2008 07:45 |
I think its just fine as is, though I have no doubt that the "Paul haters" or the "its not Queen without Freddie" bores will start replying in this thread anytime soon. |
| mr.teatime 6803 15.09.2008 07:55 |
Well they just don't have to add their name to it. It's for people who are positive about QPR and what they're doing, and who want to thank Paul specifically, and to let him know we're Queen fans who haven't forgotten that he's Paul Rodgers, and isn't (and doesn't need to be) Freddie Mercury mark 2. So - if you want to be included, just let me know your name! |
| Mr Mercury 15.09.2008 08:10 |
Add me then. |
| Tero 15.09.2008 08:18 |
Believe it or not, I do have a problem with the wording of the letter... You see, there is a middle ground as well between hating Paul Rodgers and loving everything he does. This draft assumes that anybody who recognises Paul's talents and ability to perform his own songs in concert would also like everything he does with the Queen back catalogue, and everything recorded on the new album. He is only a part of the band and as such I won't hold him responsible for everything they do wrong, but it also makes it impossible for me to sign such a one-sided declaration of love. If you intend to make this a "love letter" to Paul and QPR instead of an objective and more neutral statement, you can count me out. |

How about this for a letter to Paul instead? :P "Thank you for giving the Queen fans a chance to see half of their favourite band together live in concert reminiscing the old times with Freddie and John, and thank you for introducing us to your own music and really making it shine in comparison to the Queen songs. And thank you for making it possible for Brian and Roger to work together on an album after such a long time. I'm sorry it didn't turn out so well, but I don't hold it against you I wish you better luck with your next project, whether it's with or without The other gentlemen." |

I take it the deafening silence from Mr. Teatime means that he doesn't want to write an objective thank you note instead of this love letter? Fair enough, that's his choice. Just don't be surprised when members of this message board dare to post their contrary opinions publicly. ;) |
| Major Tom 15.09.2008 15:34 |
Let's add Treasure Moment aswell, shall we? |

Brian and Roger are keeping Queen alive in this case,if it was no Paul it could perfectly be another good singer. |
| Leonardo Venegas 15.09.2008 22:04 |
Absolutely great idea!!! Well done!!! Add me please - Leonardo Venegas, Valparaíso, Chile! Cheers everyone!!! |
| Hikara 15.09.2008 23:47 |
Add me - Kirsten. I'm really happy Queen is active and if it weren't for Paul they most likely wouldn't be. Unless they found someone else to sing or maybe I'd have gotten lucky and Brian might have done some touring or something one last time or two (he's sort of my main reason I want to see them if they do come to North America) but I sort of doubt it. I'm not a big fan of how Paul sings some of the songs, blues has never been my thing, but he has definitely grown on me. |

Fair enough, that's his choice. Just don't be surprised when members of this message board dare to post their contrary opinions publicly. ;)Really just what is your problem? It makes people to either declare their love for everything and anything Paul has done with Queen (his own songs, the Queen songs, the new album... You name it, it's in there), or to be left out. Again, it's the choice of Mr teatime to write that one-sided love letter if he chooses, but to me that sounds like a stupid idea. I wouldn't write a general petition thanking Brian about his years with Queen and the WWRY musical (if I happened to like it that), and also slip in a paragraph of thanks about the wonderful collaborations with Five, Robbie, Pink... I would concentrate on the positive issues people can actually agree with. |
| mr.teatime 6803 16.09.2008 04:31 |
Hiya guys, Thanks a lot, keep them coming - I've updated the first post with a slightly modified version of the letter. And yes this is a letter that's very positive about Paul and what he's doing. If you don't agree with that, just don't put your name to it. About a hundred names so far...! |
| k-m 16.09.2008 10:00 |
You know what I just thought? It actually is a good idea - the letter. He'll have something to dry his eyes after all the reviews:)) I know, I know - in the next post I will be told to fuck off. Don't worry - I will. As most Queen fans did. |
