Queen+Paul Rodgers will play in Moscow tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. At last the day has come, and I am going to the concert September 15th. It will take place in Olympisky Stadium, a great arena. I will share my impressions with you, or whoever wants to listen to them. And I would like those who will attend the concert tomorrow to share their impressions too. Hope some of those people do speak English! |

How long concert could last ? I have an old mp3 recorder, should be decent quality i hope, before something worthy will appear. I can record only 2 hours 12 mins, don't know if I'll need to cut pause before/between encores or even between tracks. |

Well... The tank of honey will be produced by other fans I guess, so some sh*t into that tank by me now. I wouldn't call it as a bad or great show, just a good one. An ordinary concert. Too much an ordinary. Maybe that's okay for the start of tour, I don't know. Here we go: +s: - screen, very good screen. Nothing to add. - videos on screen are really great sometimes, very well done: woman's ass, dead rock stars etc. Radio GaGa reminds me at least 4 Kraftwerk's promos. - wonderful shootings of the band, they could be recorded and released as DVD without any additional re-edit. - Roger's drumming is still exciting. - just three songs from TCR - let's face the truth most of the fans haven't already got the album and including other songs from the album will be fine, but later. -s: - arsehole with the flag in the audience (part of crowd couldn't see Roger because of that guy who should be raped by damned flagstaff), another arsehole with video camera - whenever Brian or Roger were close to audience, he was filming that obscuring boys from us, security men calmed him down otherwise he'd finish his day in hospital - where the fuck is Roger? GaGa sung by Paul, Days of Our Lives removed from the set list, SINT shared with Bri and Paul; back vocals mostly done by Jamie, Spike and Danny. The show really misses something and that something is Roger as vocalist. - Spike looks like a stranger who was staying near keyboards and then suddenly curtain was opened too widely. He could be more closer to the band. And he could play more! Queen show without keyboards? Are we in Truro '70? - Jamie and Danny as back vocalists. We're not in Montreal '81, we (audience) could sing also, no-one forces them to sing all "we will we will rock you" in WWRY; that makes audience on one step away of the show. - 389 people on stage during '39. Very funny, very positive, very great, but still too many people for such small stage. - no any footages of Freddie during Bijou. Maybe something went wrong, I don't know. Many famous people have attended the show including Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Mr Miller, some pop stars and one former minister who was talking on the phone too much. Those guys were around me, so maybe I've missed some others. Who cares anyway. No any support acts, just more than one hour of taped AC/DC hits and some spacey instrumental guitar tracks. Very poor management from the Russian side (has nothing to do with QPR) - some tickets were invalid (not false, just invalid - that just proves that they should be bought not over 'special' persons...) and I have never ever in my entire life wasn't playing in the game 'Bombay's tube in the morning' while queueing into the VIP loge. By some reasons fanzone and the-VIP-tickets-holders had to go through the same gates and the same time. Summing what I wrote - seems like it was just rehearsal and we shouldn't criticize first shows too much. Gig could be more humane, they didn't bother themselves by talking with audience (even Brian wasn't that talkative as usually), pauses between songs are almost absent. Part of audience went to shed a tear for Nelson during Paul solo songs, small part left the stadium before encore thinking that it's the end. I think QPR should be stating more and more that they're not Queen. Jim Beach's shirt is whiter than white. Khalaf was very nice person to talk with before the show. Paul gave more air kisses to the girls than I for the last 5 years. |

I am just from the concert. People, to say I like it, is to say nothing. I love it! I am in the 7th heaven of delight!!! The concert was to start at 7 in the evening, it started at 8, but it's the usual thing. The set list was the one mentioned above. They did sing well, and they did work hard. Roger was great, and Brian was fabulous. Now I just adore Brian! He's beyond reproach, the best of the best! Young, handsome, slender, energetic, the same Brian as 30 years ago. I couldn't believe my eyes! The whole stadium cried: Brian, Brian, Brian! And then: Roger, Roger, Roger! Fantastic! I was so excited that I could see my favourite musicians that I nearly went mad or crazy. They should be with us, don't bury them, they are perfect! I wish John were with them too! The concert started at 8 and finished at 10.30-40. The audience wouldn't let them go, they sang the Queen songs together with the guys. I think that Queen was pleasantly surprised that everybody knew the lyrics of all the songs. The audience was enthusiastic and very loving. Paul Rogers was good, but i still can't form my attitude to him. He sang very well. He sang Queen's songs, his songs (not quite understood by the audience, but they were good), and songs from the new album. They fitted quite well, and are up-to-date. C-lebrity is no doubt a hit! I liked the rest as well. People, I sang with Queen, I sang for myself, I sang for you, I sang for all those who love them and are true Queen fans! Certainly they didn't forget Freddie Mercury! I love Freddie, I love Queen, I am happy!!!!! |

I think Serry is just showing off. He wants to appear an experienced critic who knows a bit about such concerts. Maybe he was standing right under the flag, which was blocking his ears or having an inconvenient seat and couldn't have a good view, whereas I was able to see the scene perfectly well. I am from the same concert and I assure you that it was great! Brian, I love you! |
Serry... 15.09.2008 17:10 |
"He wants to appear an experienced critic who knows a bit about such concerts." He does. He is. "Whereas I was able to see the scene perfectly well." Whereas I was not able to see the scene perfectly well. What's your point? |
April 15.09.2008 17:27 |
The point is that you were irritated and distracted by some flags and cameras and couldn't enjoy the concert to the full. And as you confirm you couldn't see the stage. That is a pity, cause the concert was great! All these minor details could have prevented you from judging it all fairly. Serry, tell me frankly that the concert was good! It was fantastic! I know it, I was there too! Sorry, it's too late now, going to sleep...See you tomorrow! |

My recorder fucked up completly because it was very loud even at balcony. Here is introducttion to Love of My love + part of 39, link ,in this audio is almost all what Bryan said during the show. Very screamy and big distortion even there. Attendance was 50% in fanzone, 1/10 % dance-parter (at corners of fanzone), balcony was almost full. Before beggining security allowed people from dance-parter to go to fanzone so it became 90% full. Show began 1 hour later than planned, this time was non-stop AC/DC playlist including Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long. Then suddenly all light turned off and in same time big screen activated and looked like night sky. This was amazing, all screens of mobile phones and cameras in fanzone appeared as same stars that was on big screen at the oppening moment. After intro tape was over, One Vision's synth chords sounded,or better to say thundered. They resonated throu my ribs, arms, all skeleton ! But at other side of this, distortion at balcony was immense and acoustic of stadium was plain terrible. High freqeuncy noises were everywhere even in Love of My Life. Strongest moment of show for me was binding of "Hammer to Fall" with "I Want it All" and last going to solo. That was sooo moving. What about absence of Fred's video clip during Bijou, i think it turned for better as '86 footage don't correspond well with '91 period in my mind. Completly agree with Serry's position about lack of piano. Although a hour of AC/DC didn't give a hope for presence of "Somebody to Love" or any piano drived songs, "Seven Seas of Rhye" or "In The Lap of the Gods" could be great additions. Lack of 89-95 songs in any form is another dissapointment. Though "Cosmos Rockin'" was better than any played Paul's stuff, thanks God for only 3 snogs from it. Concert atmosphere was fantastic, certainly worthy to visit Q+PR one time, while more is doubtful. Overall raiting 7/10. |

"All these minor details could have prevented you from judging it all fairly." No, they forced me to judge it fairly. My opinion lays not on the 'I love Brian' reasons, I'm sorry for that. And please switch on your irony detector. When I wrote about over 300 people on the stage during '39 I didn't mean it literally, by the way. "Serry, tell me frankly that the concert was good! It was fantastic! I know it, I was there too!" Could you please read again what I wrote before? "I wouldn't call it as a bad or great show, just a good one", that's written in the start of my post. How was acoustic down there, few distortions ? |
Serry... 15.09.2008 17:43 |
I was sitting near the desk - drums were too loud few times, Paul wasn't heard during few lines because of the guitar noise, but I haven't noticed something else too bad in the sound. Tomorrow I'll be on the balcony, so maybe I'll hear the difference. |
djcamper 15.09.2008 17:47 |
Oh yes, forgot to write what sound mix was strange. Drums were the loudest, then guitar and only after Paul's voice. |

Some more facts about the show (while I remember them): - Paul forgot some lines in One Vision and Tie Your Mother Down and went too early on WWRY - ultra long piano intro for Bad Company - video with the bicycling woman ass was removed, just few secs left. Damn! - it was good to see TSMGO in the end, but C-Lebrity in the begining was not in the right place, I'm afraid. Same about AKOM. Seems like they've got the Jazz virus - good songs in bad order and whenever you change the order that doesn't help. - Roger's silver shoes are great - Brian put some of improvisation into Last Horizon Tour T-shirt (I paid 28 euros): link |
