My son has been bugging me for a long time to watch The Mighty Boosh which he assures me is the funniest thing that's been on television in years. I've been aware of it for quite some time but until this evening I've never actually watched it. So tonight I gave in and promised to sit through an entire episode and reserve my judgement until the programme had ended. Suffice to say that's half an hour of my life I'll never get back. In all honesty, it was the one of the worst so called comedies I've ever encountered. It was like watching a school play in which the kids have forgotten their lines and resorted to pulling faces and shoving each other. In the end I actually started to feel sorry for them. When it ended, my son looked at me with a "Well, what did you think?" look on his face. I was about to tell him exactly what I thought but before I could begin my tirade, I remembered something that happened 26 years ago. I had managed to coax my dad into watching an episode of 'The Young Ones' and to give him his due, he did sit through at least half of it before he declared it a waste of license payer's money and called me a 'fucking weirdo' for watching 'that shite'. So is it just me getting old and slowly turning into my dad who died last year or is Mighty Boosh just not funny? |

Hmm... I've never seen The Mighty Boosh... my friends go on about it a lot so... maybe both? |

Eels! You may not like The Boosh, but your new avatar rocks, Fatty! |
Carol! the Musical 14.09.2008 01:42 |
( ^ I was JUST listening to Eels. xD ) I think the Boosh is terrific and I'm always in stitches when I watch it, but it's kind of an acquired taste. Which episode were you forced to watch? :P |

First time I watched The Mighty Boosh, I fell asleep to be honest.... =/ |
David Jones 14.09.2008 08:07 |
The Young Ones - funny Mighty Boosh - shite Fatty - much funnier |
Erin 14.09.2008 10:38 |
I tried watching some of it on YouTube once. I don't think I lasted any longer than 5 minutes. But what does fatty know, anyway? He doesn't even like Jack Black. ;-) |
Knute 14.09.2008 10:44 |
You're turning into your dad. It's inevitable. I wouldn't be surprised if your dad sat his dad down to listen to a record of that Elvis Presley bloke and your Grandpa was disgusted. |

I'd be interested to know what series the episode you watched was from. The third series is shite. The first series is what made me fall in love with it. Then it went a bit downhill and I now pretend that series 3 never happened (there is so much wrong with it, I won't even go there, or I'll start going off on one.) I still love The Boosh though. (I don't have much choice, I bought loads of tickets last year to go and see them live and the tours just started, so I need to at least pretend to be enthusiastic.) They're actually better live than the TV episodes, which is good. They had me in stitches at one of their warm up gigs. They're both fantastic comedians, but they're trying too hard now and it's become a bit "Meh" But still, I love 'em. Also, whenever I remember how rubbish The Boosh has become, I just think of this bit - link And I am reminded of why I originally liked them. |

David Jones wrote: The Young Ones - funny Mighty Boosh - shite Fatty - much funnierI agree. Mighty Boosh and Little Britain are two "comedy" programs I just dont get. |
David Jones 14.09.2008 16:15 |
The first series of Little Britain was funny, but then they run out of ideas and it went completely to pot, they were flogging a dead horse. I like my comedy random to a point, I'm a big fan of Reeves & Mortimer but sometimes the Boosh just seem to be random for random's sake so all the little student emo's can go "Oh, its so random!" The League of Gentlemen falls into the same category. |

The Boosh really isn't random at all. It's only idiots that would call it random. Barely anything's random. I hate the overuse of the word. And Little Britain is most certainly rubbish. Except the Scottish guy in the first series. |

Carol! the Musical wrote:I third that decision also. Maybe I used "random" a bit too often in my post!Freya is quietly judging you. wrote: I hate the overuse of the word.Absolutely seconded. I know I've gone into watching the Boosh with this knowledge that the random fan base love it so, so maybe that has clouded my judgement slightly. However, I thought this about The League Of Gentlemen many years ago. I rewatched it again on Dave recently but still didn't get it. Not sure if I'll get the Mighty Boosh in a couple of years either. Still, each to their own. |

Not a fan myself at all. I had the pleasure of seeing Noel Fielding live - that was awful too - only time I laughed was when he sledged some guy in the audience for telling him to piss off - clearly something he was used to doing. |
its_a_hard_life 26994 17.09.2008 10:11 |
Russell Brand is waaaaaaay more funny then Noel Fielding. |
IanR 17.09.2008 11:07 |
Frankie Boyle has more comedic ability in his little toe than Russell Brand and Noel Fielding put together... |
Freya is quietly judging you. 17.09.2008 11:47 |
Frankie Boyle isn't that funny, he's pretty run of the mill really. As is Noel Fielding's stand up (I say that, but there are actually some really good bits to it.) It's the double act of The Boosh that makes Noel funny. Russell Brand however, is just the best stand up I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Absolutely brilliant. |

I ordered the book a day before your message was posted, pfft. xD How's it bad? I don't know about the content, but the illustrations I saw at a preview page looked really gorgeous. |

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm getting on a bit and I just dont understand what makes the younger generation giggle anymore. Just as my own father could never undertand why I laughed at all those so called "alternative comdedians" in the 80s. As for Russell Brand. I've heard funnier material from preists at funerals than that pretentious twat has to offer. fatty. |
Bo Rhap 22.09.2008 05:36 |
Naw Fatty, not really. The Mighty Boosh IS SHITE So is Little Britain. In fact they should immediately be consigned to the dustbin of life. |
