Looking for the gig but totally miffed to read in that Australian News Post "Revived Queen takes on Paul Rodgers and a New Name" that:
"On this tour for example, the two-hour concerts will feature as few as three of the new songs, giving audiences the chance to sing along to the old classics".
This totally goes against the grain of Rogers argument that without new material you "kind of become your own tribute band".....
I'm confused - surely (hopefully) this is WRONG!
What did you expect? That they'd do The Cosmos Rocks in it's entirety? Remember, on Magic Tour they only played 4 new songs. On 2005-06 QPR tour they played the same old hits again, largely omitting "newer material" from The Miracle/Innuendo era. This tour isn't going to be any different. They'll continue doing the old tricks adding 3-4 new songs to the set (propably Cosmos Rockin' and C-lebrity will be included).
You have to remember that this is a "new" band though and as such (in my view) there should be playing more than 3 tracks from the new album.
What do I expect...............well at least a new band with a bit of hunger to show that this is a statement of intent playing at least 5+ tracks from the new album plus a spattering of classic material....
I think someone else here said they'd seen a Brian quote that they would be starting the tour with only 3 or so songs from Cosmos Rocks, and then adding more as they progress up to about 5 or 6 or something like that later in the series of shows, so not to worry!
Im sure there will be pleanty of Cosmos Rockin' going on - Im more interested to see if they'll be trying anything else from the Queen back catalogue they havent had a go at before - even if its only 2 or something I'll declare the setlist a success! hehe
I hope that being a free concert, the setlist of the Ukraine concert was not yet updated like the one of the real tour...
I hope they do more songs from the new album, like Small sung by Roger, Still Burning sung by Brian in the chorus, We Believe...
and of course some old songs, but not all the same ones they did in 2005, let's hope in something new... Maybe something from the Made In Heaven album that was never sung live... or some pearl like Long Away which they did in 2005 in some venues...
