Quite simply put, I was a bit disappointed when I figured out that Paul Rodgers would be the only lead vocalist on the album...when thinking back to albums of the past, Brian and Roger had had at least one song on nearly every album that featured themselves on lead vocals. As backing vocalists, they're great, but they're even better as lead vocalists, in my opinion. Rodgers has a very strong and likeable voice too, but I believe that Roger and Brian should have some 'Time to Shine' on this new album (sorry, couldn't help myself :) Also, will C-lebrity be the only single off of the new album (disregarding Say It's Not True - that one doesn't really count)? Taking another look at Queen albums in the past, there have been plenty of singles off of each album. Just look at Made In Heaven! I'm not trying to say I disapprove of the album and band - I think the album'll be wonderful (I have it pre-ordered, along with the single on CD and 45 RPM), but let's not kid ourselves - there may be a few flaws. Your thoughts on the subject? |

However much I like Brian and Roger's vocals - this is a band - and a band should have 1 lead singer IMO. Not three. If Brian and Roger want to sing they should put out solo albums. In QPR their main focus should be drums/guitar. However, I do agree that it would've been nice to have one BM-sung + one RT sung track. |

Pim's right about this. Paul is indeed the leadvocalist in this band. I do miss Brian's and Roger's leadvocal too. The input is equal though. Musically the tracks are superb. We all wanted a new Queen album, but this is Queen (or as you want: Brian and Roger) and Paul Rodgers. |

Keep in mind, that after "The Game", there were no songs on any Queen albums with Freddie after that had songs only sung by Roger or Brian (disregarding the b-sides "Hijack My Heart" and "Lost Opportunity"). Some tracks had small parts with Brian (WWTLF, IWIA) for example, but no full songs sung by Brian/Roger. "Say It's Not True" in a way is kind of another "Let Me Live", only in reverse: Roger, Brian then Paul (whereas LML had Freddie, Roger Brian). Cosmos Rocks is hardly an exception in that regard, really. I wonder though, if "Runaway" will only have Paul on lead vocals? |

So, maybe the album did follow the same tendency other Queen albums did in the 80s and 90s. |

I TOTALLY agree with Tjbarrett96's first post. Maybe there are some alternative versions left in the vault...or hell some unreleased tracks that they did with Brian and or Roger singing lead on them... |

I heard Roger took the lead vocal in Surf's up - schools out |

tjbarrett96: I totally agree. A good album should be like a good meal. Different courses complimented by different ingredients blended into subtle and sublime flavours, each adding to the overall ambience of the experience. Both the Beatles and 'early Queen' used this 'blending' to magnificent effect. Classic albums like 'Revolver', 'Sgt. Pepper', The White album' and the first five Queen albums were among the best albums ever released in the history of music - because different vocalists were able to bring their distinct personalities to the track. Only Ringo could sing 'Goodnight' or 'Yellow Submarine' because Lennon especially was seen as the academic of the band. Only Brian could sing '39, and Roger 'In love with his Car', as no way could I envisage Freddie either at a hoedown, or being remotely interested in anything mechanical. One of the reasons 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is so massive, is that it works BETTER as an album track. The juxtaposition of tracks like 'The Prophet's Song', and 'Love Of My Life' and 'Good Company' and 'God Save The Queen' enhances 'Rhaposody' beyond the sum of it's parts. It becomes a great album track - which in turn makes 'Night At The Opera' an elevated, brilliant album. Sorry, but lead vocalist at the expense of the remainder of the band is not only artistically and expressively restrictive, but the lazy-man's composition by numbers. |

More important - I hope they let Paul be the leadsinger on stage this time. It was almost embarrasing in 2005 how much time he spent offstage waiting for Roger and Brian to finish their vocal-numbers. |

Yes, its not as much as the whole songs they may have had in the past, but its still a great deal more than the guitar player and drummer get to sing in your average band these days! (Im talking about a verse each (more than Paul!) on Say Its Not True and Rog gets the chorus on C-Lebrity - and thats just what I know for sure) |

If Brian and Roger get a turn singing, Paul should stay up front somewhere. Give the man a tambourine or something; if Roger Daltrey can stay on stage and bop around while Pete Townshend sings, then Rodgers can swallow his pride and stick around for a measly 4 minutes. |

If you make a CD of just the Queen songs sung by Roger, that CD is not that good. If you make a CD of just the Queen songs sung by Brian, that CD is not that good. If you make a CD of just the Bad Company songs sung by Paul, that CD is pretty good. |

I'm glad Brian had that moment "alone" with the Queen fans during Love of My Life. I appreciated it very much. And it was a very cool and generous thing that Paul did, in general, on the last tour. I think if Paul is doing most of the singing (all the lead vocals) on the new songs, it would be because they wrote most of it while together in the studio (isn't that how they did it?), and gosh, they wouldn't want to leave him out now, after all he has done for them. "Uh, sorry, Paul, we don't need you on this song ... unless you have any helpful suggestions to make. So, if you could just come back tomorrow. Thanks, that would be great." |

Nice Bill Lumbergh impression ^_^ But, that's not the way it works. Think about when Brian or Roger took lead vocals while Queen was still around. Do you think they told Freddie "Sorry, we don't need you on this one"? Of course not! Paul's a nice guy, and I don't think he would've objected to letting Bri or Rog take the vocals on a song or two. |
