If that set list is correct, it's odd isn't it? Why so little new stuff? Doesn't seem worth it for 2 new numbers. Very strange IMHO. |

Let me guess "Paul Rogder's was Freddie's favourite singer... He used to see him all the time." I think this sort of comment is "spin". The same with "John supports everything we do".... |

With the exception of AOBTD, Shooting Star, Cosmos and IWIA I hoped/expected some or all of those others to be dropped this time round in favour of new material/older stuff which could be brilliant to reintroduce. |
Daveboy35 05.09.2008 06:51 |
Whose to say that they won't play any other older songs or new songs from cosmos rocks that to me is a rehearsal set and nothing more. They could for all we know drop IWIA, AKOM, AOBTD etc we don't know for sure, i know and roger stated this in the front row interview that people who go to the shows will expect to hear the hits so they have to be included. I'll think i'll wait until the 12th sept or possibly first few shows before i decide whether or not to grumble about it, on a postive note shooting star was there so that's good. |

i want to see them again, i want to hear great old things. also, would be good if they put 2 new songs, they promote album after all. maybe it's not enough for promoting but i think that would be best way. would be fantastic if they put some old songs that they didn't perform, like i'm going slightly mad, i think paul could sing it, innuendo too... |
Holly2003 05.09.2008 09:18 |
They should play the whole album on tour and establish themselves as a "new" group producing new material. Of course they need to play a few older numbers too but I would drop songs like Bo Rap, AOBTD plus any further tributes to Fred. |
Benn 05.09.2008 09:52 |
Holly2003, Couldn't agree with you more. Whilst the BoRhap tribute thing was great as an acknowledgement to Freddie, I honestly don't see it being interesting this time around. As much as I'd like to see it taken out of the set, there's no way it'll happen - it's too big a millstone around their necks for it to go. AKOM was horrible on the tour and the bluesy kick off to HTF (although being a nice surprise at Brian's shows) just didn't work either. My suggestion would be to get more of the early Queen material out there - stuff that's not so familiar to newer fans, but works incredibly well live. Paul singing White Queen would be INCREDIBLE! There's all sorts of stuff they can oull out to make this exciting, but it's just NOT going to happen. |

There is going to be a huge amount of bitching once this tour starts. Face facts..... there will be LESS old Queen songs played on this tour than the last. They are going to play new stuff. The setlist is also not aimed at die hard fans, but Joe Public. |

djcamper wrote: I wish they rehearse "Hello Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart".That would be nice, to have a classics R'n'R medley during the tour :-) I doubt it would happen, but you never know. (After all, they DO pull some nice surprises, like "Red House" - only done at the Vancouver gig two years ago, which I was at! Though I'll admit I never heard the song ever before that...) |

Let's face it, when they start to play new songs (cosmos rocks stuff) people start to move towards toilets or bar desk to order more beer |

Wow, what a surprise. The new "Queen" playing nothing more than old Queen songs. It's a good thing my expectations were already set at the bottom, or this might have surprised me... Let's face it, songs played at a public rehearsal a week before the first show ARE going to be played in the shows. Anyone expecting these songs to be dropped must be out of his mind. |

Might just be that they were trying out songs they were uncertain about. Many bands do this.I might be wrong though, but it is far rom certain at least. |

Many bands do this.I might be wrong though, but it is far rom certain at least. It's not a "try-out". It's the final days of the rehearsals before the tour, and the only date open to outsiders. This is the "finished" product they have come up with. They are NOT going to spend the last week of rehearsals by re-learning to play songs they aren't going to play on tour, and they are not going to perform unrehearsed songs to the press. Young bands with fresh catalogue (recorded less than 20 years earlier :P ) might be able to play other songs with minimal effort, but 60 year old pensioners are struggling to remember the actual songs of the tour, let alone a bunch of others. You really are clutching at straws here by not admitting this to yourself. |
Holly2003 07.09.2008 09:48 |
Was this a rehearsal or were they trying to stir up media interest for the album and tour? Do bands usually rehearse new material in front of lots of journalists when there's a good chance they'll mess up? If they are just reminding journalists that they exist, better to stick with tried and trusted material maybe? Having said that, I expect most or all of these songs to appear on the tour. Let's hope they also do most of the new album live too though. It would alos be nice to hear Paul do 46664 etc but it's not likely. |
Tero 07.09.2008 10:06 |
I think we've all heard what the band sounds like unrehearsed (at the 46664 events), so it's pretty obvious they have to play the rehearsed songs to make a professional impression on any journalists. It's not just their brand new material we're talking about. They will make a mess of any old number as well, and the only way around that is to rehearse and rehearse again... That is not something you will do unless you plan to play those same songs in actual concerts as well. And this is what other artists do as well: They invite people for the final rehearsals, not for special one-off concerts with unique setlists. Now, unless "Queen" actually has a rolling setlist this time, you can expect these numbers to appear in every single concert. I know Brian apparently promised to play most of the new album in a Spanish interview, but he doesn't seem very reliable anymore. |
AlexRocks 07.09.2008 11:09 |
There's always the opportunity to do something different for a new project down the road after this one...but yes...they should defintely play a bunch of new songs on this tour for crying out loud. As in five per show and then switch some of those around to cover more songs than that off of "The Cosmos Rocks". An artist should never tour for a new l.p. and not play a good number of songs off of it. |

Actually lots of artists do try-outs to see crowd reactions of some songs. But then again who knows... My point is that it is certianly not so sure as you think. There might be lots of reasons for doing a one-off like this. Dont think this was the final product though, seems to be a very odd general rehearsal if it was. I thought TSMGO was crap last time but at the Mandela concert it was the highlight. Paul seems to be a mot more comfortable with the Queen-material this time so Im not counting anything out until Ive hear it. And about 60 year old musicians... They know their stuff, they have been playing it professionaly for 30 years now. |
