First off Hi to everyone, been trying to get on here for a while but had trouble setting up so I have been lurking but not able to post! I'm sure like everyone else I've had the new Queen+PR tour on my mind, esp as I'm going to Liverpool. With regards to the setlist I've got some questions to throw out, see what everyone thinks. It's really brought about by watching the Mandela performance, I guess I wonder what people would prefer more, the songs PR did on the previous tour done well or other Queen catalogue songs which might be a bit riskier. My thoughts resolve around two major points. Watching 'One Vision' it was clear that Paul didn't seem that confident with the song. At times I wonder whether his age is a factor many people discount. He is in his early 60's as far as I'm aware and as such learning a large new catalogue might a bit of a challenge possibly? As well as a Queen fan I am also a fan of Jerry-Lee Lewis and he has barely sung a new song for 20 years and is starting to forget lyrics to songs in shows and his range of songs in decreasing rapidly which I think may shed some light. Also if I remember what I read correctly Queen+PR trialled a lot of songs before the last tour and picked the best so it's worth remembering that they did think about other songs we didn't hear because they considered the result not good enough. To put this in perspective I am pro Queen+PR before this sounds like a majot rant and I'm really looking forward to the tour and album! |

they didn't pick the "best"... they pick the HITS. Don't expect a new (Queen songs) set list... they will play the same old and tired hits, taking away 6 or 7 to put the new songs on. P. |

Paul is not yet in his 60s. Brian is older than Paul and screwed up One Vision more than Paul. Freddie forgot words to his own songs before he was 30. I doubt that when they "tried other songs" for the last tour, they exhausted every possible option of ever adding another song to the set list ever. Also, they actually have NEW songs now. |

Regarding how many songs from the new CD will be played, the Admin person on QOL had this to say. "In the Album planning meeting it was mentioned that 4-5 new album tracks will probably be aired at shows. As ever, all subject to change." link |

I'm sorry, but I'm tired of: TYMD TADTOOL CLTCL even LOML AKOM and Radio Ga Ga we've had these songs in the last tour, and some of them even in Brian's and Roger's solo tours for many years. I want as many new songs as possible ... and surprises, please, many surprises !! And I'd like to listen to Under Pressure and Dragon Attack, wich I really liked in the US Leg of the tour in 2006, but weren't played in Europe. The QPR Greatest Hits Tour was ok, but it doesn't need to be repeated ps: and please, no U2 for the intro ;P |

I hope they play most of the US 2006 tour setlist with a couple of new tracks. Ofcourse it would be awesome if they decided to play It's Late, Innuendo or something - but that's not going to happen... I really do think that shows should open with a song from the new studio l.p. that they are promoting. It is a BIG mistake to not do this. It just makes the shows all like the others before. |

Yes - in 2005 they used Reaching Out, but that was just a minute - after that they blasted in a well-known track. Let's face it - 90% of the crowd won't know the new tracks (yet). |

I'm thinking Innuendo, with the 'opera' part in the middle as playback from the original tape with Freddie. |
Cwazy little thing 28.08.2008 08:56 |
I think, just as happened last time we had this discussion just before their last tour, people are being unrealistic in terms of set length, pacing and back-catalogue songs which could ever suit Paul. Im not going to write out a full set, but I'd expect to see a very similar set to last time with about 7-8 songs dropped. Those are likely to be replaced with the 4-5 new songs mentioned above, with 3-4 older Queen/Free/Bad Co tracks getting switched in to be a bit different. I think we'll likely lose some from: - Last Horizon, - Flat Bottomed Boats - I Want to Break Free - Wishing Well - Feel Like Making Love - Acoustic Say its not True (possibly just a straight swap for the new version) - Hammer to Fall - '39 - Im in Love With My Car - Let There Be Drums - These Are The Days of Our Lives Although Id like to see Magic and Radio Ga Ga left out this time, they are simply bound to keep a good hit ratio in, as they'll be mindful of disappointing fans who didnt catch them last time, so I think they'll stay. Fortunately, they set a standard of long shows last time, so theres plenty to choose from if their going to drop stuff. Also, last time there was some "filler" from Bri and Rog to ease the load of learning new stuff on Paul - that shouldnt be so necessary this time. In addition to the 4-5 new songs, the most likely older Queen songs I think we could see from the off which werent there to start with last time are a couple from: - One Vision - Dragon Attack - Under Pressure - It's Late (maaaaaybe - as Brian said he'd think about it or suchlike a while ago, although he said it was in an annoying key/tuning or something, so maybe not) - Spread Your Wings - Headlong - White Man (based purely on it being suited to Paul) - Play the Game (I cant think of any reason why not, and I love the guitar on this, so that'd be ace!) - Save Me - Who Wants to Live Forever Now Im Here would work, but Roger has said in interviews it was knackering to play, and I cant see him wanting to attempt it in his current physical condition. Innuendo is unlikely I think due to how badly it went last time they tried it (at the tribute concert). Unless they bring it down a tone or so I dont think Paul will be able to do it justice. Id love to see White Queen more than anything else, but somehow I dont think its in consideration, as they dont seem to want to go near the non hits from the first 3 albums. Anything which is sillier (like Bicycle Race), or airy fairy 70's (My Fairly King) is very unlikely, cos I dont think they have much regard for that style today, and it wouldnt suit Paul. Which I might even count out White Queen. :( Thats my thoughts at least. |
