I watched our Freddie's Untold story last week and some obesrvations- 1) He failed in Class X at the school in Panchgani, India and still managed to get admission in the Art college in London. Makes me think whether the course he enrolled for at the college had any cedibility at all (class X pass-out is absolutely essential in India for further education like graduation, technical diploma or indeed, practically any course you want to pursue. A Xth fail simply cannot hope to get admission in ANY institute, even the phony ones) 2) Jim hutton sounded genuine and honest while expressing his opinions. Some comments I have read about him on the internet (not sure where, but probably here itself) made him out to be a "villain". But I felt he was just a regular guy, infact makes me wonder why our Freddie fell for him. But then I'm not gay, so not the best judge of that. 3) No comments from our Freddie's family about his sexuality or lifestyle during the "magic years". No comments on their experiences or the attention they got due to his stardom. I know that he made a concious effort to hide his Persian/Indian/Zanzibari origins but surely he kept in touch with them? Or did he just re-connect with the family whne he came to know his days were numbered? 4) The anecdotes form the school/college days and also about how much he liked his sister were so adorable. When I first became a Queen fan our Freddie was like a mysterious guy to me. I mean he simply did not seem to be like you and me, there was definitly some thing different. But those recollections of his friends/families prove that he was like everybody else, but also a musical genius and a showman, that's all :) The "mystery" arond him, starting with his name, was intentional. If you people could throw more light on these and also share any particular observations of your own... Thanks and Regards, P Nair |

Good to see another Indian here. I'm from Calcutta, by the by. 1. I don't have a definite answer, but I've always wondered it myself. Maybe he got an athletic or artistic recommendation? 2. Well, most people make him out to be a villain because he accuses Mary of throwing him out of Freddie's house despite Freddie's apparent wish(according to him, that is) that he stay there after his death. Freddie bought a villa for him in Ireland which mostly contradicts his claims 3. Freddie was always in touch with his family. You can see lots of pics of Freddie, Brian, Roger, John, etc. with Freddie's parents and sister on this site. His parents didn't like being in the spotlight, I guess. And you're wrong, he didn't try to hide his "Persian" origin. He claimed in most interviews to be a Persian. He just hid his Indian origin from people. He was born in Zanzibar, but that doesn't make him Zanzibari. If I was born in China, would it make me Chinese? No. 4. You know, one of the theories regarding the "Mercury" moniker is that Freddie derived it from the "ruling planet" of his zodiac sign "Virgo", which is of course, Mercury. (I've been playing too much Final Fantasy Tactics) |

Thanks and Regards, P NairWell glad to see I like i guess most queen fans?? always thought there was something mysterious about freddie too. I think Jim gets a hard deal out of it all. Just because he wrote a book. U know there's 2 people in every relationship and just because it went 'against' freddie, maybe freddie did stuff against jim such as sleeping around, so maybe freddie was the bad guy...just a thought |

The guy writes a book and all of a sudden everyone's a Goddamned expert. Personally I get sick of hearing people whine about Jim Hutton's book... for some people he crossed a line as far as Freddie's privacy goes, but you know what? I bet any money he could've gone a lot further. He has a right to be a little bitter about the money, and a right to tell his story; seeing as though he was shagging Freddie for a significant length of time, I think a bit of leeway should be given. |

At the end of the day, he can write about whatever he wants; if you don't want to know about Fred's privacy (I don't), then you simply don't buy the book (I didn't). |

Saif wrote: Freddie bought a villa for him in Ireland which mostly contradicts his claimsWell I can't speak for the old bugger, but if it were me, Mary could have the fucking Irish villa and I'd keep the house I'd lived with my partner in for five or six years. Whichever. |

There aint no Villa's in Ireland believe you me, we dont get the weather for Villa's!!!! Freddie bought Jim a plot of Land in County Carlow (i think) on which he built a bungalow which unfortunately wasnt finished before Freddie Passed away....Far as i know he still lives there. |
john bodega 16.08.2008 23:44 |
.... sorry, I just had this funny mental image of Jim living in an unfinished bungalow for 17 years :) I'm sure the gardens are nice and pretty, at least! |
niall 20.08.2008 07:53 |
Yes, still there. The land was next to his Mother's house. The gardens are lovely and established now with shrubs and flower beds. Always beautifully kept. Yes, it is a bungalow. |

I watched another documentary about Freddie, on youtube, which is dubbed into Spanish - it's far better than the another one, though by the title one would think it's the same - and they say that because Freddie didn't have the qualifications to get into art school, he took some sort of course, in England, from which he came out with "the best grades". 2. I think many people dislike Jim because they prefer to think that Freddie wasn't gay, or not to be reminded of it, at least. 3. I think he kept in touch with them, but the gay issue seems to have been taboo with them. It seems he didn't like to talk about his life in Zanzibar and India to anyone, not only journalists. From things he said in interviews and from that documentary itself, it seems that maybe he just didn't have very good memories from it. It seems he was bullied while in boarding school. |

I wouldn't say Jim's bitter about the money. He's always been very level headed and prefers to think of his happy years with Freddie. |
