I want to take the plunge and buy a dedicated Blu Ray player to compliment my Sky+ HD package.
At present I use a (code) hacked Phillips upscale DVD recorder so that I can play multi-region discs.
Question: Is it possible to buy (or hack) muli-region Blu Ray players?
Most Blu Ray players I have seen can be hacked to play muti-region DVD's - but NOT multi Region Blu Ray discs.
Any ideas?

I've no idea myself, but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.
I've tried both Google and some Blu Ray forums - but the advice is both contradictory and non-specific.
What can you find out at your end?
i'm in a similiar dilemna.
The PS3 is widely considered to be the best BR player around but as yet cannot be made multiregion.
BUT appearently region free BR's are available on the net which should play on the PS3.
Having said that - I think you are better off asking the same question at avforums.com.

I haven't done the research, really.
I live in 'Region A', and so I'm not concerned about Region Free players as most all the titles I have/want are Region A anyways.
I want this, but it won't be available here..:-/ link
It's region free, but the PS3 won't play PAL. Nothing to do with the topic, but I wanted to complain. ;-)

I just read that if you are using an HDMI cable that it will play PAL or NTSC. Not 100% on that though.

Not quite true.
HDMI is not affected by what format the video is in. It just carries digital data essentially.
It comes down to the player and display units.
If you're using imported Blu-rays from PAL-dominated countries that are region free, in a player meant for NTSC markets (US, Canada and Japan mainly), you SHOULD be able to play the movies fine as nearly all of them are still in 24fps (though I've heard of movies being speeded up to 50i / 29.97fps interlaced). I have one release from France, "Paprika", and all the video on it is in HighDef 24p/29.97i, and it works fine as far as I've been able to tell.
Any bonus features in standard definition PAL-encoded video will NOT output the video, just the audio tracks only. The same could likely be said for 50i / 25i/p HD video.
Read the 'import' reviews on highdefdigest.com or blu-ray.com - they go into detail about that
