I inquired with a friend of mine at HMV (in the mall I work at) just an hour ago, if the upcoming Queen + Paul Rodgers album has been solicited to retailers yet (read = listed as upcoming, but not yet available for preorder).
He checked, and I looked at the list on the screen as well when he pulled it up, and the list does indeed list "COSMOS ROCKS" coming out on Oct. 14th, which is a month behind the expected European release month of September (I assume the US will be the same).
This doesn't come as a surprise, as some of our recent Queen releases, especially the DVD's (GVH2 comes to mind) have been delayed as much as a few weeks behind the US releases here up north.
But yeah, just thought I'd mention that.
Note however, the release date COULD be subject to change, but that's what they have for now.
Thanks for the information Inu-liger. Why is it that they have always released their material in the US and Canada days if not weeks after they do in Britain? Wouldn't it be better for their promotional efforts to be able to say something like 'Queens new album to be released around the world on such and such date' ?
Heard from other sources that Hollywood records does plan to release the album on October 14th and leading single early September in North America.
No idea why they always do that, but should be as usual a month later than the EU release.

Disappointed considering that I have been looking forward to this album for so long now. I was counting down the days. Well I hope at least that we will have a teaser of a single to keep me going from early September. Hope we have some tour downloads by then too. Any word on whether they will do videos for the new album - certainly hope so to get exposure on Muchmusic, VH1, @ MTV
They really should just give it away this release, free digitally or with newspapers.
Many of us here will buy anything QPR comes up with, but the business has changed so much, in order to get anybody to actually hear this new music, they're going to have to get it on people's hard drives and iPods.
I bet the new QPR album will be the flop of the year. It's 6 weeks before the tour starts and the same amount of time before a first single/album should be released.
- No flashy website with tons of multimedia, a countdown for the tour/album, the ability for users to start uploading their audio/video/photo's from concerts once the tour starts etc etc etc
- No promotion at all
- No media-leaks, interviews, tv-appearances to start the buzz
- No 'exclusive' audio in the Album Club
- Brian talking about EVERYTHING on his website except the new album
- No information about a single, releasedate, artwork, videoclip...
The list goes on and on. And when the whole thing flops Brian will moan on his Soapbox about MP3 and 'parasites'.

I agree with everything that you have said. Perhaps they just don't give a crap whether it's a success, although I would find that hard to believe.
If they think this is gonna be a millionseller they're gonna be SOOOOOO wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if it barely reached the UK top 10 and then falls out of the chart in a few weeks.
Reaching top 10 would actually be pretty good....they may be happy with that kind of a "flop" - that is actually respectable....especially after not having anything out there for 13 years.....I agree though that they need some heavy promotion especially for those who haven't stayed in the loop. With good promotion I predict at least a top5 album.....they may even hit #1 or #2.....singles - who knows - but success would suffer without real videos (i.e. with them in it and not just some footage of other things going on in the cosmos)
The head of publicity for Q+PR managed to roll out of bed around noon. He waded through a pool of pizza boxes and empty beer cans and reached his PC on the other side of the room.
With his usual panache he wrote a paragraph about how Q+PR's new single was going to debut on UK radio starting Monday August 4th.
Whew, that was some work he thought as he cracked open his breakfast beer, belched, and resumed downloading a porno flick from the other night. link
Somewhere deep inside I hope that QP will put up the new track tomorrow or this weekend at the Album Club.
But ofcourse that's not gonna happen. Who are you going to give the first preview of your new album - fans who paid for the right or Joe Public who only wants to hear 'that Mamaaaa song'?
